New Berserk staff and cast announced.
Director: Itagaki Shin(Teekyu s1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
Series Composition: Fukami Makoto(Psycho Pass s1, Yuyuyuri s3)
Studio: Liden Films, gemba/milliepensee
>Tf when Berserk never gets an actually good anime adaptation
Just... Kill me please.
They're going either Black Swordsman Arc or Lost Children Chapter, probably both. Would need 2 cour or 2nd season just to get to the end of Conviction Arc, add the fact that Berserker armor ins't until like a 1/3 of the way into Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc and chances of us ever seeing it are almost nill.
>Studio: Liden Films
Well, time to kill myself.
>Director: Itagaki Shin
Wait wait. What.
No VA announced for Schierke, guess they are not going to go as far as I would have hoped.
I want this to stop. I don't understand, why do good series always end up with the worst adaptations and sequels? The original Berserk anime is still the best adaptation of the series, and it was a shoesstring budget flash animation. Why can't they just leave it alone? If they aren't going to do it right, why do it at all?
No idea. It parallels Guts' life, doesn't it? Just a series of hardships and disappointments. No castle in the sky for us, no worthy dream.
After The Eclipse is the Conviction Arc which has 3 Chapters, Lost Children, Binding Chain and Birthing Ceremony. Lost Children would easily be covered in less than 1 cour, but the other two are much longer.
Next is Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc, Schierke appears about half way through the first chapter, Holy Evil War, if I'm remembering correctly.
It's Black Swordsman/Golden Age/Blacks Swordsman (assuming we'll ever get any of that which is not Golden animated), Lost Children, Conviction.
Okay, so this is a really fucking weird staff.
Director: Shin Itagaki (The only thing he's been doing recently is 7 seasons of Teekyu. Did Ben-to a few years back too)
Series Compostion: Makoto Fukami (Co-wrote Psycho Pass scripts with Gen Urobuchi. Wrote 6 episodes of Yuri Yuri S3. Not much else)
Series Composition Co-operation: Takashi Yamashita (Almost zero professional experience writing anything)
Character Designer: Hisashi Abe (Chobits, Devil May Cry, Wolverine. Not much recent work)
Music: Shiro Sagisu (Did the music for the Berserk movies)
Animation Production: GEMBA (CG Studio. Did a few mechs for a Macross movie once. Not good. Not even close to good.)
Animation Production: millepensee (Literally has only ever made Teekyu)
Production: LIDEN Films (Shouldn't matter to us at all. They're not animation production, they're just there to make sure production doesn't absolutely collapse and make sure they're not spending all of their money.)
Short form, this isn't a good staff listing and from the looks of it, it will be entirely CGI.
I'm just pointing out that it starts with BS before flashing back to GA, which leads into the conclusion of BS and then moves into LC. It'd be nice to see all of BS animated, since we only got one episode of it in 1997.
it could work, as BS is time line wise all after GA,
>Why can't the Japs understand that 3D has no future in anime?
i bet someone said this at some point when coloring went digital.
So the Berserk movies' cast returns. And we get Yoko Hikasa for Farnese.
>the director of Teekyuu is doing Berserk
Does not compute. Just, what. Will Guts be prone to sudden outbursts of sublime retardation and talking at least 3x normal speed?
Why can't you understand that it's the other way around? Nobody is motivated enough to get good at 2D animation nowadays. It's more like anime doesn't have a future, period, and 3D is the only thing that's barely keeping it alive.
>tfw Berserk will never get a good adaption of post-golden age
Christ, just let madhouse do it.
Bullshit. Japs are awful at 3D, and can't even seem to understand the basics of it. If they stopped paying their 2D animators like shit and making the same shitty anime who don't sell every season, maybe animation would be good again.
Nigger, one of the advantages of calling it anime is that you don't get ambiguous statements when talking about the actual animation involved. Stop being a retard and use the normal terms.
>If they stopped paying their 2D animators like shit
and china will pay their workers fair too
I feel bad for the guys but most of em do it out of passion (cause working for a fucking 7/11 pays you better)
thats why going for tech that easy up their job is the future...(or all go jobless)
im kinda of sure that non anime now days is 100% 2D, or maybe just like 1 per season at best.
you must let em try, is no, they will never get better and we will be stuck with mediocre shit for ever
3D doesn't make things easier. If the backgrounds or characters are fucked up, nothing you'll try will work. Rendering is a pain in the ass and costs a lot of money, wich most productions don't seem to have. And most 3D animators are shit anyway.
I guess the silver lining is we are getting a new Hirasawa piece. Hopefully it's as good as everything else he has done.
wow, shit staff for a shit adaption nobody asked for.
It's like Superman/Batman/Spiderman, EVERY adaptation has to show their stupid origin story even though everyone knows it, but in Berserk's case the "origin story" is long as hell.
I've given up on a good complete adaptation of Berserk, it'll never happen, just read the manga.
it's not fucking fair. Moefags are fucking laughing at us.
Oh don't worry, Berserk will get the adaptation it deserves one day.
Just long after we're dead
No it's not. Unless you're calculating some shit without textures, rendering is one of the most expensive things since it's never right the first time and there's always tons of problems with it.
I mean Liden films aren't the best looking studio but the Terra Formars adaptation was pretty solid so lets pray.
Anyone who dislikes moe things is probably a tryhard, and anyone coming to /a/ while shitting on moe things is probably a cancerous /v/faggot who watches four shows a season max and then desperately insists he's into anime.
You do realize that "probably" is the exact opposite of dogmatic, right? It's just a statistical tendency - the people who shit on that stuff like you're doing typically watch very little and complain about the industry constantly and have anime as a secondary hobby or something like that.
That is the case, yeah, /v/ shitters are a cancer and should be dealt with by hostility.
That does not warrant shitting on everyone who hates moe though, especially on a Berserk thread (I assume that /v/ shitters like stuff like Jojo now? Or OPM?)
Fuck off moeshitter, if this was a moe-thread(for lack of better term) I would agree with you to tell shonenfags to fuck off, but no one asked you moeshitters to shit on edgeshit in a fucking Berserk thread.
Fuck off, you're not welcome, and you're not contributing, lurk more, and stop mentioning the cesspit of shit that is /v/.
Not even remotely excited anymore.
Who originally thought it was a good idea to do Berserk in CG with the Golden Age movies anyway? Why a medieval setting? It makes no fucking sense. It doesn't fit at all.
I remember reading that is was to do with the large battle scenes and armor. They didn't have the budget to animate everything without it.
I imagine they wanted to save costs also (as originally they planned to do more movies past the Golden Age), but by the time the third one came around they knew it wasn't going anywhere. That's probably why it looked the best out of the three.
CG is more often used in high-tech settings where there are robots or cars or whatever. It sort of makes sense for those types of anime (though like >>138948307 said, it's always shit) there's no fucking purpose for a medieval style series like Berserk to use CG.
It's going to be good, just don't Hype, expect the worst.
Well, it can't be worse than the movies, right?
>Yoko Hikasa is playing another slut
Colour me surprised, she's playing another worst girl
Mai Nakahara as Schierke when?
>Berserk with Teekyuu's pacing and animation
I never knew I wanted this.
Don't forget the Susumu Hirasawa insert song and Unsho Ishizuka as narrator. Seriously they have the sound nailed, why did they have to fuck up what we visually have to see so badly?
Anime is saved
How is this single man so fucking based?
>Year of the Buddha Twenty Six Teen
I think what gets me the most is that they purposefully take out frames so that it emulates how 2D animation flows, making it look fucking janky
Expelled from Paradise had decent action scenes though
>Director: Itagaki Shin(Teekyu s1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
It may be shit, but I will still watch every second of it. I really hope the animation will not be that much CGI as it seems to be. After all in Black Swordsman arc, nor even Lost Children you don't really have full scale battles like in Golden Age, only Guts vs everyone.
Pic rel is probably the closet we get to something like that in those arcs.
>this fucking staff
it's gonna be one hell of a ride
Because we aren't in the past grandpa
I'm serious though, if it can be animated as well as Buranki is being animated then I don't really give a fuck, the PV we saw had him being stiff as fuck
what anime is an example of how berserk should be made then, by which studio?
cant be a studio that doesnt do loli nudity.
Wouldn't it make for an interesting experiment?
Who knows, it might turn out better than imagined.
I'm worried for the way they'll translate Puck's jokes into animation.
Is this a PV for this serie? I've only seen a shitty CGI one with skeletons. This one doesn't look that bad.
Although I find it strange that he just attaches his arm like that, I always though that those metal straps on his arm were also part of it, and couldn't be separated. I think that would make it more solid.
On further inspection they got it right. In pic rel he puts the straps first, and only attaches the hand after that.
You want them to take the time to animate every fourth-wall breaking Yoda joke?
Pre-Golden Age is the only time Puck acts like an actual character and not as a comic-relief backdrop to everything else going on.
>asking for 2d berserk animation with non-shit detailization
Puck was still a comic foil back then. But he was actually capable of emoting and interacting with characters beyond making referential jokes.
>No Susumu Hirasawa
H-hey at least the CGI got decent by the third movie, r-right?
He can do that post-Golden Age too, just not as often since the tone overall is much lighter.
t-that old man has better teeth than mine..
And then murder them shortly after
If worst comes to worst, I'll still be happy to see animated Farnese and Serpico after all this time.
First they ruined Terra Formars, then Arslan, and now they are going for Berserk. Someone please, stop them
This possibility frightens me more than any of the existential horror that Berserk used to be about.
>Mai Nakahara as Schierke when?
>Implying any of these aren't great
The soundtrack is one of the few things that was done right in the movies, at the very least I'd give them that, all of it felt ominous and building up to a disaster
They killed Schwarzesmarken too, this very season. Everything they touch turns into a turd.
This. Soundtrack in the movies was really good. I loved that chromatic sounding piano at the eclipse, too.
It's been a while since I've watched the movies, but I seem to remember that there were too many scenes without music at all, that bothered me.
Will they animate the Blacked Swordsman getting Blacked?
The animation was terrible when there were many armored characters. So all the battles basically.
Check out this scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RjnvvCvNy0
If the whole trilogy was as well animated as this fight, it would be great, but at the end you see once again that whole armoured units are done terribly in CGI, that's what makes it unbearable.
He is good: https://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=creator&creatorid=2338
>Isidro voiced by Keima VA
>Serpico voiced by Jonathan Joestar VA
Weird choices there.
However Isidro and Azan's existance confirms that we will most likely get the Horse Rape and Swordfuck scenes adapted, and for that reason I will watch every fucking episode.
True. But I'm talking about beyond cameo length.
The Spanish Inquisition arc was one of my favorites.
It didn't get enough episodes to do the story justice, the director is a retard who intentionally fucked up characterization, and naturally animation is down the shitter. Last I heard it even sold worse than fucking Tortilla chips, and why shouldn't it? Muv-Luv adaptions just can't catch a break. Probably for the better no studio is ever going to touch the main trilogy. If we're lucky.
>Why the FUCK are they adapting literally the same part as the manga/movies yet again?
Have you read literally any post in any berserk thread in last couple of months? Theu are not.
>not liking qt moth loli and Jill
>they were doing CGI for Arslan Senki
dis gon b gud
Even this fucking horse isn't as bad as this shit.
holy shit is that from the berserk movies?
Moeshit is pure and utter fucking garbage with no plot, characters or even fuckign comedy. The only reason you autistic fuckers watch that garbage is for the waifus, but you are tood eluded to understand that even if you waifu was real she would be completely disgusted ta your mere existence.
The only ones who don't belong here is you moefags since you faggots don't atcually watch anime.
I liked Lost Children, but wouldn't be terribly surprised if they skimmed over it.
Maybe it's the nostalgia goggles, but I'll always be ready to defend the 97 series.
Why? Who the fuck thought that was acceptable for a grim fantasy anime? I love the guy but that actually makes 0 sense. It's like making Yamakan in charge of making a successful idol anime, it turns shit immediately
Lost Children was good, but very self-contained.
I'd be surprised if they spend a ton of time on it too. Hopefully they don't skip over it too much, but Conviction definitely has a lot more plot progression.
>not hiring Madhouse or MAPPA to do animation
>not paying Susumu Hirasawa to do OST
>doing full CGI garbage where Bubuki Burangi looks like masterpiece in comparison
Why they don't listen to fans and just do shit no one wants instead?
I think so too, but they shouldn't skip the count arc, since it had the introduction of puck and the god hand.
I bet they want to animate the god hand with their gorgeous CGi models.
>>Director: Shin Itagaki (The only thing he's been doing recently is 7 seasons of Teekyu. Did Ben-to a few years back too)
>Animation Production: millepensee (Literally has only ever made Teekyu)
HE'S MOVING UP!
C-can you take a picture of that page? I can't access it.
Is it wrong if I grew to dislike the Golden Age?
It was never my favorite arc, I'm one of those people who picked up Berserk because of Guts' Dragonslayer and found other reasons to like it, but the constant promotion and animation of it to the exclusion of all else irrirates me to no end.
Literally the only good thing about this list is Shiro Sagisu.
Aside from the Beserk movies, he's the guy who composed for Evangelion, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, and Bleach.
I was turned off by the OST when the trailer used dubstep, but at least it's now confirmed that Sagisu is back, so the wubstep was probably just placeholder music.
Doesn't mean I'm looking forward to the anime, but I'm definitely looking forward to listening to more of Sagisu's work.
Although, I would've loved to have had Susumu Hirasawa back on board.
>Director: Itagaki Shin(Teekyu s1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
>He does everything by himself
>He saves anime again
THAT GUY DIRECTED TTGL EPISODE 6
THE ONE WITH THE BATHS
DON'T LOSE FAITH
Why does the universe itself seem to enjoy torturing Berserk fans?
He's the perfect pick for a lengthy manga like Berserk.
the same with Ben-tou. He almost did everything.
>Director: Itagaki Shin(Teekyu s1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
>Series Composition: Fukami Makoto(Psycho Pass s1, Yuyuyuri s3)
This is history in the making, guys. The berserk anime will go down in history as the anime which made those two big shots in the anime industry.
Itagaki did the 5th episode of Fujiko series which is like the bets thing in the whole franchise.
I will trust him.
I want to believe, but that CGI tells me don't do it. I felt so fucking betrayed with the movies, even if the third one was kinda okay.
I really hope they use CGI sparingly but that preview looked fucking disgusting. Even the goddamn raven was CGI.
The movies actually did have some pretty solid music. It's just a different style from Hirasawa's atmospheric work that I loved in the original.
As long as we don't get the dubstep in the sample trailer there should be some good tracks.
Still makes me laugh.
Dance showdowns between Guts and the demons, and singing.
>mainstream seiyuu cast
>Gutts and Casca are still played by those dorama guys
For what purpose
M8 be cool
That will be very cute I guess
Man, I miss old cast, I know Miyamura is old and busted but still
It was the only Berserk adaptation that at least had some atmosphere from manga, if they had normal budget it would be great.
Movies with disgusting CGI are piece of shit compared to that slideshow.
Emphasis on atmosphere, great soundtrack, emotional character development, etc.
The animation's aged, Skull Knight was cut out, and it ended on the biggest cliffhanger of all time, but I still think 97 Berserk was a solid adaption of my favorite arc of the series.
Strictly speaking of it as an adaptation of the Golden Age arc and that alone, it's excellent in pretty much every way.
The pacing is great. It's consistently true to the source material, other than not including stuff that wouldn't make sense being that there wasn't enough manga to do post-Eclipse stuff. The VAs are perfect, OST is 10/10. The key episodes like the Snake Tyrant, Guts vs 100 men, Zodd, and everything from the Doldrey siege and on, are really, really good.
Other than skipping stuff to fit the episode count constraint and due to the lack of material after the Eclipse at the time it was made, I fail to see how anything about it was even remotely "awful". The gore being toned down sucks too, but you can't expect them to have stuff that graphic on TV.
Lost Children is actually pretty short. It's mostly just the fight really, so they could most likely fit that in like 4 episodes. That would possibly leave some screentime for a part of conviction. At least the rape horse.
It was good. But even aside the animation they cut out a lot of stuff. No Silat, no Skull Knight (although these can be forgiven, since they didn't plan going over eclipse), no Wyald, no bakiraka.
>the biggest cliffhanger of all time
I'll never understand why people consider the ending a cliffhanger. Is the first episode not clear enough? Yes Skull Knight and the escape sequence is cut, but the outcome is the same.
You don't get it retard. Most of those animators participated in the project because the director had really good connections with them due to previous projects. Do you think some sad fuck director from the current Madhouse could convince animators like Kameda or Yutaka Nakamura to help with the series?
An unfinished story isn't necessarily a cliffhanger. Also the story could technically be considered finished with how they ended it, instead of any survivors Guts somehow escapes the Eclipse and goes on fighting apostles until he dies.
It would have been nice to include more of the manga's detail, but at least the series mainly stuck to cutting things that were more relevant post-eclipse.
I think they could have kept more of Guts' childhood though, to actually explain why he hated being touched.
And the King's lust for the princess. His descent into madness helped emphasize why he was willing to have the whole army slaughtered for what Griffith did.
I could take or leave Wyald honestly. A lot of the apostles have interesting designs and morally ambiguous backstories, but Wyald was just a sick bastard.
The material elevates the shortcomings. That's why at least the Eclipse film felt far better than the other two, because it stuck very close to the source and left the least amount cut out.
>If we can't get an anime as good as the first one
That's not hard to accomplish at all.Unless you thought the original was good, in which case I can't begin to comprehend the depth of your shit taste.
> the King's lust for the princess
I hope we can see the King's final nightmare animated.
>Wyald was just a sick bastard.
Philosopher, warrior, poet. NEVER FORGET HIS SACRIFICE
If loving the original Berserk anime is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
His best scene was being torn apart by the true warrior poet.
I liked Wyald. And as much as he wasn't absolutely necessary to the story, he added to important elements.
1. He was the first apostle we've seen to "oppose" god hand. He wanted to kill Griffith even though he knew he was chosen. That gives us the idea that apostles aren't just god hand servants, but they have their own free will.
2. Wyald exposing Griffith's broken body to the band of the hawk was way more dramatic and powerful than them just finding out "like that". It was what crushed their spirits utterly, leading to the scene shown in anime where they discussed what to do next, whith Corkus almost crying about that.
Other than that, in his mini arc we see people of Midland helping the band of the hawk. So we are shown that they were still considered heroes by the people of these lands.
Wyald seemd like an edgelord, but I liked how when his body is revealed as an old broken man, it suddenly makes more sense. It's as if he'd regretted wasting his life on something pointless, or something dull, so he wished for fun, basically. Kind of an eternal youth, doing whatever he wants with no care in the world.
To be fair, Griffith's body is still revealed in the anime, but it's by some of the King's random mooks. So I thought them moving on from the fight and lamenting over what happened felt a little more natural than getting over a random demon attack.
>So we are shown that they were still considered heroes by the people of these lands.
That was a good sequence. Love the shot of them leaving Midland behind.
Oh good god this is going to be a trainwreck
These are facts, if you disagree with any of them, you are a subhuman cancer that should die irl.
1. Everything in the Berserk manga is amazing, every arc is good, every detail is good, everything. (Golden age arc obviously the best).
2. Any anime adaptation, that doesn't 100% follow everything in the manga, is garbage.
3. Berserk doesn't have good anime adaptation.
>Using meme arrows outside of 4chan
I'm not a huge fan of how the Godhand was first introduced, but I thought the Count was an interesting villain as far as showing that apostles weren't completely devoid of human attachment.
Always thought that it would be interesting to see his daughter Theresia again.
Well it's the very start of the story, Miura didn't have that much figured out at that point so of course it's not going to have major development. Yet despite that I does a really good job of setting up for the Golden Age Arc.
Can't deny it is a little edgy but no more so as some of the rest of the manga, look at the Conviction Arc for example.
Well I think on their site they said it was portraying Guts in his Black Swordsman time, or something like that, so I assume the serie is going to be Black Swordsman arc, and possibly Lost Children, or maybe if we are lucky even Conviction arc.
The arc is good, but I feel as if Miura didn't know where to take the story back then. And I don't know wheather it was his first work (except for prototype) but it does kind of feel that way. The writing is just way better from Golden Age onwards.
>not liking Puck
I bet you watch anime too, faggot.
Just why? Why does anime industry shit out every season tons of useless anime from stereotypated shit novels that sell like crap instead of investing on making fewer decent things? Why does a masterpiece like Berserk get a shitty CG messy adaptation?
I can't wait till I see this shit animated.
I'm kind of dissapointed that we didn't get to see Rakshas backstory in the recent Falconia chapters.
Roshinu's and the count's backstories were really good. It's a crucial point that godhand appears before those people in their lowest, so it's really easy to sympathise with them. I hope Miura shows us a couple more.
