Why is one piece filler so good and fun? i decided to watch the 3 filler episodes between punk hazard and dressrosa in the anime

turns out that in this filler story, one of the Kung fu dugongs from Alabasta decided to become pirate and got his own animal pirate crew he even learned how to use haki, and decided to paint an x on his chest to look like luffy,also they figh a guy with a pet pet devil fruit and there's a luffy vs law fight, i kinda wish this little adventure was canon

I was wondering if this thread could clear something up for me.

Why does One Piece get treated like some sort of venerated sacred cow? Why does Oda get spoken of like he's some brilliant scribe who can do no wrong? I've read this series myself and I can't see what it does differently from any other shounen ever and I just. Don't. Get it. The only unique thing about it is the more cartoony aesthetic, but it's still paced plotted and characterized like every other shounen series and I'm not seeing what's so damn transcendent and unique.

What is everyone seeing that I'm not? I don't fucking get it.

The fact is that it's seen as this generation's Dragon Ball, so to say. The pirate theme is absolutely perfect for a shonen story about adventure and exploration. An extremely likeable and diverse main cast compared to most shonen, with no member being neglected.

There's deeper analysis out there but you'd have to find it yourself. I don't know about in the West, but it's actually been studied in Japan. Off the top of my head I can remember seeing a famous Japanese writer who has made a series of books analyzing One Piece but I can't remember the name. I doubt it's translated either, at least in English.

One Piece is a lot manlier than every other shonen currently running. Not sure if that's the appeal, but it's a stark difference. There isn't much edginess at all except in some of the villains, none in the main cast or his allies. Even Law, who a lot of anons thought would be a Sasuke clone, turned out to be very honorable and hot-blooded. It also lacks in pretentiousness.

In chapter 105, Crocus says pics related: is this translation correct? Because it's implying that Raftel is indeed the last island on the grand line, and not what we learned recently. Does anyone know if in the original japanese chapter the sentence was the same?

If not, Oda has changed his plans, he can't just make Inuarashi say "Crocus had no reason to ie to you". It sounds like a retcon.

There have been ship vs ship battles here and there, mostly in the anime.
The problem however is that everyone is already a living fucking weapon.
Many marines even ditch their weapons when they've lvled enough because their strength/speed/skill/endurance surpasses that of conventional weaponry.

Sadly, out of all of them, only the Baron Omatsuri one was great. Every other I felt like it relied too much on keeping the status quo. Baron Omatsuri instead didn't try to make us think it'd change something - it was purely there to show just how harsh the loss of your crew can be for a captain. Something Oda himself much later put into the series with Moria.

I know people like Z or Strong World, but personally I really didn't feel anything watching them. Even the eyecandy was limited, since so much was put into developing the setting and story, that they didn't have the time to put a bigger fight.

Probably only cool scene I remember from all of them was the non-canon, but fun way of showing how Luffy thought up of Gear 2.
