What if the 02 kids got beat because their partners got infected and when that happens their digivices end up going black due to their partners being technically lost?
It happened to Ken's on the opening sequence and to Meimei at the end of tri2 when Meicoomon went evil.
Maybe the reason we havent heard from them is because this whole mess was something they were trying to handle and failed at which ended up out of control.
It doesnt explain the digidestined not mentioning but recognizing Ken but that could be Hime-chan's organization keeping the 01s from knowing what happened.
