What the fuck man.Was this a real initiation or just made up by the author? Or just templar guy being a dick to the kids?
>>

What's up with the gigantic heads?
>>
>>138887482
Malnourished kids, the adults are somewhat looking normal head wise.
>>
>>138887564
Those don't look like kids.

Is this worth reading or is it just an edgefest?

Its about the children crusade, I think those in the pic are 14-15 years old, coupled with crusade era which I assumed not really good to the peasants food wise. Not really an edge fest, just wiki the children crusade to get an idea.
>>
So is this basically another medieval suffering manga a la Wolfsmund but with more kids for extra despair?
>>
>>138888066
Jesus Christ, that looks like shit

The spreads are great.

Deus did not vult. Shouldn't have fallen for the crusading meme.
>>
>>138887420
Like the manga said, Hugo's not a "real" Templar knight. He's more of an auxillary branch member. And it's clear that Hugo's a corrupt as fuck deviant.

It's not an edgy for the sake of being edgy kind of story. If you're famiiar with the mangaka, Furuya Usamaru, he's done other drama about children confronting the bitterness of reality or specifically the corruption of innocence for Litchi Hikari Club.

Innocents Children's Crusade is a refinement of this latter theme. Basically a tragedy about pure children confronting the realities of adulthood, religion, and medieval society. Definitely very gruesome, but it works up to a cathartic climax and conclusion.

Is the horn explained? It's obvious enough that the miracles were fake, but what about the horn just appearing out of nowhere? "whoops, don't sweat the details"?
>>
>>138891281
Yeah it's explained in v3.
>>
>>138891437
That's good to hear. Looking forward to that, then.

>cathartic climax and conclusion.
Being sold into slavery is a cathartic climax and conclusion? Not to mention being exploit, lie , tricked through the whole journey too.
>>
>>138893240
From the perspective of Nicolas as the penitent Christian seeking redemption, yes, I do think so.
>>
>>138887420
Weird art style.
>>
>>138890798
I imagine he got off free from this.Dang.Cant wait for the next volume, thanks for picking this one up.
>>
There's nothing surprising about this if you've read others Furuya works.
>>
>>138890980
So is this anything like Marie? I'm mainly following it for now because I loved Marie and it seems like he's partially recycled the premise here.
>>
>>138898013
Really? I don't find it similar to Marie at all. I think of it as a spiritual or thematic successor to Litchi Hikari Club.
>>
>>138898082
Yeah, it feels a lot like Litchi Hikari Club: the graphic style in some pages, teenage homo-erotism and violence, the way it depicts religion with mystic adoration which parallels the club and its fanatism,...
>>
>>138898082
I've only read a couple Furuya, so maybe I'm just making too much out of incidental details, but the initial presentation of Etienne and Kai's situations seemed similar. Unusually religious young men, both have semi-supernatural senses (weather for Etienne and sounds for Kai), and obviously the visions of god floating over the earth to signify that they are chosen for something.
>>
>>138898475
That's more surface similarities. Marie is more of a story about free will and questioning the nature of a utopia.

Innocents Children's Crusade is less philosophical in contrast. It's a very grounded human tragedy about the corruption of youth.
