Also a nice related touch that I think a lot of people missed in the island assault episode. While Gjallarhorns two forces seemed mostly cut off from each other communication-wise, the reason Tekkadan could relay messages so easily was that they spread little comm relays around the island before the attack. They are briefly shown as those little funnel looking things floating above the treetops.
