Tamako Market is a nice series

Its more of a niche anime, especially compared to Tamako Love Story (which is easier to get into).
It has all the Kyoani love and charm but relies heavily on heartwarming character interactions over things like an overarching plot or intense character development that people can easily get hooked onto.
Its also the only anime that can give me the same feeling as K-On!.

it was kyoani hubris after k-on, hyouka, and particularly chuunibyou.
they thought they had gotten good enough at making original episodes that they were flop proof. and made an entirely original anime they wrote themselves.
they had taken series with middling or crap source material and seemingly elevated them or fleshed them out by adding original material, and had too much success in the process. this show brought them back to earth a bit, although they are still ambitious and still trust themselves in their original writing and keep doing it every series.

Tamako Market belongs on the bad Kyoani list with Kyoukai no Kanata, Amagi Brilliant Park, Chunnibyou season 2, Myraid Phantom World. Shows with nothing fucking happening in them and bland borderline episodic plots are just not worth watching more than once. Even if you like the characters or the fanservice.
