Manga Misaki is superior.

>>138851634

>>138851634
One of the main points in the novel is that they'll probably continually struggle with their issues. They can abate them but not make them disappear.

Manga is worse at literally everything.

It's amazing how they managed to fuck up the plot so much that even the awful anime original arcs are better than the manga deviation.
>>
I cant recall the last time we had a "I just finished Welcome to the NHK and..." thread.
>>
>>138852037
I like the manga more but the anime is still worth watching for the music alone, it makes some of the scenes really powerful.
>>
>>138852051
True, i think though regardless things will be difficult, it'll be a background radiation in their minds and relationships.

Mental illness is not easy to live with in a relationship.
>>
>>138851634
Once she sorts out her emotional and familial conflict she has no reason to associate with Satou anymore. Remember Satou doesn't have many opportunities to turn his life around, the best he's looking at is a low paying salary job that'll consume all his time or minimum wage work. He's lost most of his social connections and the respect of his family. Misaki still has further schooling to rebuild her life and social connections, she's would constantly be surrounded with opportunity to rebuild her social life.
>>
>>138852037
If you want the actual story just read the LN. Manga completely butchered the point of the series with the romance and it's horrible ending. And no, it's not better than the anime, at least the anime ending is much more similar in tone to the LN ending.
>>
>>138850315
https://vndb.org/v14824
>>
>>138852193
That's fine, Satou is an idiot anyway.
>>
>>138852315
That's was the point of NHK though. At a certain point recovery outweighs effort so it's better to live on rock bottom as remission is too easy. Even the author stated how after NHK his own life remissioned back and he was never ever to garner the popularity as he did with this work in other works. NHK is a story of addicts, in the LN the frequent use of drugs by satou and his friends was more focused on, they're all depressed drug addicts.
>>
What's the difference between the endings? I've only seen the anime ending.
>>
>>138852193
She's lonely just as Saturo is and she has a major crush on him fuck you triggered
>>
>>138852456
The manga ending was something ridiculous with Misaki and Satou in the aparment while it gets torn down and they express their true feelings for each other.
>>
>>138852457
Crushes don't last, social standings, age difference, and various other issues would make it harder and harder for Satou and Misaki to continue their already strained and forced relationship. They both use each other as an emotional crutch but in both situation they make significant effort just to even meet because their social circles are so apart.
>>
>>138852419
>>138852193
This is the reason why the manga ending is awful, it has Satou and Yamazaki working at their dream job, Misaki finishing school and everyone is fucking happy, it completely misses the point.

>>138852529
Yeah, I just speed-read the last two chapters. It seems like they go back and forth. I'm kind of confused. So they decide to fall in love with each other for real this time? In the anime, they both go back to college and kind of like each other? In the LN, there's drug use and I heard it was closer to the anime, but I'm not all with it.

I don't care for a story about druggies.
>>
>>138852456
Manga ending has Satou and Yamazaki working as professional game devs, Misaki in college, Sempai as a really happy housewife and Misaki and Satou in a relationship after she waited for him to fix his life.

LN ending is pretty much the same as the anime ending, by the way, with a somewhat darker tone.
>>
>>138852639
That sounds like fantasy bullshit Satou would wake up the next morning from.
>>
>>138852557
They're like, what, 4 years apart? The other ones don't really matter at all. I think you're just smoking some stuff. How are their social circles so apart? She has no friends and has a religious family. He has friends and a normal family. They're both miserable fucks.
>>
>>138852674
Exactly why the manga is awful and anyone saying otherwise simply didn't get the point of the story.

Drugs are something you naturally end up doing when you're at the rock bottom of life.
It's not like they're presented as something awesome that everyone should do, it's being realistic about it.
>>
>>138852767
It worries me that the file name is simply "image"
>>
>>138852824
Yeah, I know. I just can't get into something that involves drugs or anything like that. I could get into the anime and maybe the manga. Especially when I was at a bad point in my life, but I never turned to drugs to get away. Maybe that's why I look down on so many people who do.
>>
>>138852675
At the end of the LN Satou is a laborer, meaning he's working 10+ hour jobs. Misaki is trying to recover her school life, meaning that most of her time will be spent in school and after school clubs. Unless they both give up and instead indulge themselves in hanging out with each other as emotional crutches like they were. If they do continue their relationship it will be a return to status quo. All of Satou's friends are drug users or under debt/hardship so he has to distance himself from his own personal social connections otherwise remission. So essentially Satou path to recovery and regaining financial independence is to start over with absolutely nothing. Misaki has the safety net of still being in school and having all the opportunity to recover her social life.

It also hurts Satou that he never made relevant connections socially in school.

Essentially the best thing Satou can do is support Misaki as much as he can emotionally until she's ready to move on. He's made too many mistakes to keep pretending he can turn everything around like a child.
>>
For some reason I like the Suicide Island arc, even though they made it more dramatic when it ends unlike how it was in the manga
>>
>>138852966
Yeah, but why would she suddenly be able to move on? If she was falling into this behavior then there's a small doubt she can escape it any easier. I also wouldn't consider being in school a safety net. She still needs to make it out alive with a good grade. If she fucks that up, it's going to be a lot hard to get a job and fixing relationships in High School is hard. There's more people to make friends with, but in the manga she only had 6 months until graduation so she really doesn't have the time to fix everything if their timelines are the same.

As a laborer, he might be able to meet new people, but even then the 10+ hour days aren't as bad (or pay as much) as a Japanese salaryman who literally non-stop works until retirement or death. So there's still plenty of time to hang out with Misaki and help her recover in her grades.

I somehow doubt someone like her will be able to recover. Their best bets is to try and find the support into each other.
>>
>>138852881
Well, back when I watched the show and read the book I was pretty depressed too but even though I had never done drugs at that point I could still sympathize with the characters in the LN. I just accept drugs as something pretty normal to do when you're feeling like shit (or even in a recreational way like weed).

Give it a try, it's not like it's a huge focus.

>>138853173

>>
>>138851511
You repeat this so much that i'ma start calling it a meme. Misaki didn't save Satoru, but she push him to do so, not only that but she also give him a reason to live, if you think that Misaki didn't help Satoru at all then you are missing the point of the anime.
>>
>>138853155
I'm sorry, I'm guessing you never worked 10-14 labor jobs before. Most of the time after working that much you just want to go home lie down and zone out to tv, or anime.

With schools usually they give you the opportunity to graduate on time with your class if you put the full effort this means focusing academically and participating in club actives. Depending on the club it takes till late afternoon or early evening to finish and after this students either go to a tutor or they go home to do their studies.

Lastly in NHK Satou throughout his relationship goes into further decline in his personal and professional life as instead of resolving his issues and drug addictions he goes to Misaki for reassurance and to insure that Misaki doesn't leave him for his further failures. It's just not a healthy relationship, ever.

So a continued relationship implies remission and the NEET life for both of them. Or at the very least Satou.

That sounds terrible. I liked some of the added arcs from the anime like that girl that contacted Sato for that pyramid scheme. I enjoyed that, but some of the other aspects of the anime were just very dramatic, especially when comparing it to the LN. It still was enjoyable.

I am just wondering what Sato ended up doing afterwards, did he just try to make it by or did he force himself into other experiences in life. Well that isn't for the story to answer because it was more of the journey from being a hikkikomori to someone who is capable of supporting themselves out of necessity.

>>138855884
The "added arcs" are pretty much straight off of the manga, readapted into a different tone. The anime is more a loose adaptation of the manga than the novel, up until the climax.

"Professional game devs" is just Anon's interpretation. I took it as it's just a thing they're keeping at.
>>
>>138856359
The anime is a lot closer to the LN than the manga, specially considering how much the manga deviates from the source.

And about the original arcs, the pyramidal scheme arc isn't that similar considering how the manga goes more in depth about Pres' brother. I can't even remember if the MMO arc was in the manga either.

Also, as far as I remember Satou says he's doing creative work and there is a screen with a message from Yamazaki asking him for his scenario. I think it's pretty clear they're still releasing games, even if they do it in an indie way, that's considered professional nowadays.
>>
>>138856774
The brother and MMO arc weren't even present in the novel, nor was suicide island, any depth with the side characters, etc. The core story is based off the novel, but everything in-between is loosely covering the manga, including the MMO arc. The anime was only funded to promote the manga. At any rate, they're all still separate entities.

Satou ended up still doing mindless part-time work, while scenario writing on the side, just like his NEET days. If releasing indie games is considered professional, guess me and OP's shitty galge is professional too.
>>
>>138856774
>LN
It's a novel, not a LN.

>>138857192
I'm halfway through the novel, and glad that that suicide arc isn't in it. I cringed my way through that in the anime, and I didn't know how I was going to hold myself together reading it.
>>
>>138859296
Depends what you consider a LN. If you really want to get technical, it was a web novel first.
