Anime in general is shit.
However, Love Live stands for what is good about anime, so no wonder it's popular.
If you want to see shit, go look at the battle harems, ecchi shit, mecha/sci-fi or the trainwreck "we can write a plot!" series.

Can you imagine a TV series, book or movie adaptation of pic related?

No, but not because of the plot or the story, but because of the cuteness, so you're just further proving his point.
>>

I also don't understand why Love Live! is so popular.
The songs aren't good, the art isn't that nice, the plot is boring as hell, the "funny moments" aren't funny, most of the girls aren't good singers, (Minami's voice especially makes me want to gouge out my ears), and to top it off, none of them are even cute? Excluding Honoka and Nico, of course.
Someone explain why this generic idol shit is so popular.

But idolshit isn't cute. It's retarded collectivism and heinous CG.

There's a reason modern westerners would never consider some show with 89 bitches singing at once to be acceptable as culture or entertainment.

The only reason I watched the whole thing is the animation WAS really good.

Nico was the only memorable character and I can't recall hardly any of the plot points.

[email protected] is superior, I can still remember individual gags and although the animation was not as good most of the time, it gets a lot of points for not resorting to CG for the singing/dancing scenes.

Slowly but surely I've kind of started to see this point as valid if not just objective truth though it took a while and a lot of really tryhard bad fucking anime to convince me it's true. A-1 Pictures recent output really helped a fuck ton in me eventually agreeing with this conclusion especially. At this point all I want it bad writers who are woefully unqualified to stop trying to dazzle me for what they think of as good drama and start focusing on just trying to make shows that are fun or enjoyable wacky shit that's fun to watch. There's gotta be a happy medium in there between boring as sin slice of life and overwrought melodrama that takes itself far too seriously.

The reason Love Live sold so well is because it's also popular with normies, both the game and the anime. It started out as otaku pandering like [email protected], but somewhere along the line they realized that a huge part of the fanbase consists of normal teenage girls and capitalized on that.
>>
>>138857135
More easily accessible. Focuses on characters more since there isn't a million of them like [email protected] The VA's actually operate like an idol unit while [email protected] VA's do it as a side job, this lets high school girls relate to that shit easier as idol groups are all the rage in Japan. Basically Love Live gets recognized as an actual Idol group by the general public there, while [email protected] is just some chinese cartoon.

Season 1 didn't even manage to beat K-On in sales.

Namco forced its popularity by cutting the price of S2 vol1 by half and bundling it with a chance ticket to be at the idol concert, there's also the video games factor and the huge advertisement campaign it had for S2. Love Live success is fabricated, the way they are handling the franchise reminds me a lot of western companies like Disney.
>>
>>138851251
There's some overlap.

Aki Hata wrote both LL and [email protected] songs.

I remember that EFFY (composer of BokuHikari) will be composing one song for ML.
>>
>>138857682
S1 is pretty bad desu, S2 is when things start to pick up.
>>
>>138857682
That one S1, then came the S2 BDs followed by the Movie which far outsold K-On.

Are you saying use of advertisement is inherently proof of fabrication? Because a bunch of other franchises do that. DxD had a mobage so did WUG. WUG was pushed a lot by Avex.

Back in 2010, Love Live had nowhere near this level of popularity. It was not promotion alone that got here but it comes down to a few factors
-Good songs
-A Great Anime
-A deccent Mobage

That have catapulted Love Live from an unknown franchise to the top of the world.
>>
>>138857682
>25million USD from Movie screenings
>230k total movie BD sales so far
>67,206 average sales per volume for s2
>26million USD from music sales alone in 2015
Sure is fabricated success.
>>
>>138858026
>25million USD from Movie screenings
>230k total movie BD sales so far
After hard shilling and huge incentives to be part of the LL fandom
>67,206 average sales per volume for s2
While S1 had 30k avg sales per vol on the first release

Season 1 sold decently, Namco pushed hard to have such a huge success for S2 and movie. It didn't happen naturally like Bakemono, K-On or Free for example. The *extra* success(because I'm not denying part of it is legit) it got was all brewed in a meeting room.

The fact that it had a HUGE drop, 50%+, from vol1 to vol2 should tell you that something is off. Normally the drop is between 10% and 30%.

It's a multimedia franchise, in fact majority of its popularity comes from it's musical and idol side of things. Why are you so hung up about s1 anime sales?
The game came out after the anime, along with much more constant song releases, and was one of the main driving forces of hitting the mainstream market and making sales go up.
The first volume got huge sales due to concert lottery, but what you can't deny is the absolute huge amount of time and effort the VA's put into being an idol unit. Just compare their first live to their recent ones, they got professional enough to be invited to perform on Kohaku and held their own against the mainstream idol groups.

Also you are delusional if you think no other franchises get games and other forms of "shilling", just look at the amount of marketing [email protected] gets, it's certainly isn't much different but the end success speaks for itself.

I just wish they'd use some of those massive amounts of otakubux to make the dances 100% hand-drawn like [email protected] but CGI shit has permeated the industry too much for them to change the way they animate the dances.

As someone who watched only the anime, so is probably talking about something he doesn't know about, imho he difference between [email protected] and LL is that LL is a lot safer and "for everybody". I don't mean this as a critic or to say LL is shit, it's just a difference in approach: Idolmaster came up with girls for every niche and varied songs, LL girls on the other hand are all highschool girl + 1 trait.

Compare Rin with Makoto, Makoto being a tomboy and manly is a lot more serious than Rin's flat chest.
The only somewhat interesting character in LL is Nico.

There is also a difference in fanservice, [email protected] is a lot tamer.

Personally I like [email protected] more, I prefer their songs even if I have listened to only a few of them, and I liked the anime (both originals and cg) more.

Rin is a flat-chested tomboy who is very insecure of her lack of feminity.
Maki is a sheltered tsundere ojou-sama, but can still be straightforward and honest to herself from time to time.
Nozomi seems like the mature onee-san type but she jokes around a lot, and under all that she's actually just a lonely girl who wants friends.

How is that just one trait to you?
>>
>>138863686
I'll rephrase myself: love live girls are first and foremost high school girls with some trait to pander to someone.
[email protected] girls are the trait, the niche they pander to.

Iori being an oujo-sama is lot more important, relevant, than Maki being an oujo-sama because Maki is a high-school girl AND an oujo-sama.

This makes the [email protected] better for specific pandering but worse for pandering to everyone.
