It's really nothing like the story from the games. Mostly fanservice. It's alright though.

It can be fanservicey and silly at times, but I enjoyed it. It has serious moments and action and the characters are sympathetic. I really liked the main character; she's likable and the series spends a fair bit of time establishing her personality and background and showing how it develops.

Mai is wonderful. She's very kind and sympathetic without being an airhead or a doormat. In addition she's skilled and intelligent without being overpowered and of course she's very beautiful.

Very hard to believe this person was ever male.
Boku Girl has more traces of being male than Mai
>>
>>138788939
What made you consider it generic? Mai's situation isn't one found in many manga and her inner struggle as well as the occasional action and presence of magic differentiates it from typical slice of life series that one might compare it to.

>>138789079
What makes you say that? Mai was actively trying to pass herself for a normal girl. As a result she deliberately tried to talk and act like a girl, though her friends still considered her boyish in her habits. Eventually she gets used to behaving like a normal girl and her mind also adjusted to her new body, but she still retained traits that might be considered masculine, such as a disinterest in cute items or clothes as well as considerable combat skill and the ability to stay cool and focused in battle.

As for Mizuki, he was pretty girly even as a trap.
>>
Has there ever been a more dedicated waifufag than MaiOlev? The closest one i can think of is Komeiji but even he wasn't present every time Azuza was mentioned.
>>
>>138788826
is she lesbian?
>>
>>138791850
Mai was attracted to girls at first, but after living as a girl for a few months she lost interest in other girls and started to be attracted to boys instead.
>>
>>138789998
He's not dedicated, he's just an autistic robot. At least Sheldon could into emotions and had an actual personality, however much of a faggot he was.
>>
>>138789090

It had some neat ideas but kept getting bogged down by generic shit like going to the beach, locker room scenes, bumping into love interests and accidentally groping/kissing them.
>>
>>138792508
Yes it does have fanservice and it does include some events that appear in other series taking place at a school setting such as going to the beach or a sports festival. Though I'd say that the inclusion of magic helps to differentiate what happens in those chapters from the typical slice of life series. As for the "bumping into love interests", Mai only accidentally kissed Taro once and that served the purpose of making Mai start to think about him as a love interest. Unlike many series with fanservice there are no accidental gropings or characters tripping into one another in Remix Heart other than that one incident. As a result I don't think it's fair to call it generic.

She remembers the basics of CQC.
>>
>>138793548
Not like he cares if you fap to her.
>>
>>138793662
Didn't she not 'win' against the 'final boss' though?
>>
>>138794067
She was facing a genius alchemist who could manipulate the surrounding environment almost at will and Mai had only just unlocked the full power of her grimoire and had little familiarity with it. She still stalled him for long enough to enable others to foil his plan though. So I'd say it counts as an overall victory even if Mai failed to overpower him herself.
>>
If I still see maiposting from you in 5 years, I'll be impressed.
>>
>>138794546
She won't be a playable character so he probably will do it so that people don't forget about her. I mean, unless she has a relationship to Ragna and Noel, the hero and heroine of Blazblue, there's really nothing tying her to the main series unlike Es with Nine and Celica, Naoto and Raquel with Ragna and Rachel and Hibiki with Kagura.
>>
>>138794644
Why do you say she won't be playable?
>>
>>138794664
Because you cannot exceed the limit. The world is about to change and all of the players involved have a role they must fulfill
>>
>>138794802
What limit? What role?
>>
>>138792873

I just don't see how it's any different than DxD, To Love Ru, Date a Live, Shana, Mahouka, Rosario vampire, Negima, Raildex, Baka Test. Other than the genderbend aspect which fades pretty quickly.

And that's my biggest complaint with Remix Heart, Mai came to terms with being a girl too easily. I thought he was going to have a much harder time transitioning and I would have appreciated more focus on the emotional toll of changing genders. And the consequences of the gender change didn't really seem to matter, unless I missed something.

I can see at least one pretty major difference. The series you posted are all harems with girls competing for the affection of an uninteresting protagonist and filled with harem tropes such as misunderstandings and stasis on the romance front. Remix Heart has Mai be part of a group of friends who simply enjoy spending time together rather than Mai being surrounded by girls lusting for her. As a result Mai's interactions with them both feel more natural and are more interesting. There's only one character that loves Mai and her behavior is justified since Mai was a kindred spirit to her since they were both treated harshly by their families and used by them and Mai was the first person she met who honestly cared for her and viewed her as a human being instead of a disposable tool. The romance in Remix Heart is a secondary element and not really developed, but I did like the fact that Mai was able to admit her feelings to herself and her friends within 5 chapters. There are other series that focus on romance where that doesn't happen for hundreds of chapters.

Plus, Mai does struggle with her transformation and it does take time for her to adapt to life as a girl. For example she wore badly fitting clothes early on and behaved in ways that other girls found boyish. I actually liked the fact that Mai was practical and adaptable instead of doing shit like insist she was a man and trying to use the men's bathroom for example. And the gender change did matter to Mai, since she not only lost her place in her family as a result of it but also suffered an existential crisis as a result of it. And she worries that if those around her learn the truth about her they will reject her just as her father did.

Sounds like a mary sue
Is there anything else to this manga other than a bland boring MC?
>>
>>138795690
Mai isn't a Mary Sue. Not everyone likes her, in fact it doesn't seem like she's popular beyond her circle of friends, she's not better than the rest of the cast and while she does try to help others she doesn't always succeed and neither does she win every fight she ends up in. Plus, she shows weakness at times and does make mistakes.

Sure she's a good swordswoman and has the ability to read peoples' memories by tasting them, but the entire cast has special abilities and many of them are much more powerful than hers. One of her friends is a living weapon created to slay gods. The main adversary of the franchise is the very embodiment of Death. And a good chunk of the cast has magic weapons of a class higher than her grimoire. She's weak compared to those for example.

So is Mai x Cajun the OTP here?
>>
>>138797814
Mai/Kajun doesn't seem particularly popular. There is this image, which I don't know if it ever became a full doujinshi, and there are a couple of lemons featuring them on Pixiv, but most of the art has them together as friends. Mai/Shiori only has a bit of art as well. Taro/Mai is the most popular pairing, though that doesn't translate to that many images. Ironically Taro/Jin is actually more popular, which I guess makes sense since the fact Taro is Jin's bodyguard and roommate provides fertile ground for fujoshi.

Canonically of course there's no indication that Mai or Kajun are romantically interested in one another. And Mai has Shiori friendzoned so the only plausible pairing is Taro/Mai.
