So since they refuse to defend the decision, and yet refuse to badmouth it, it strongly implied that this is a decision made by the rights holder, i.e. Kadokawa. The show has no actual plot, there is no story progression, and the characters are static and don't change. If you compare the start of the show with the end of the show, nothing has changed. Even slice of life shows have some type of character growth.

The thing people like most about the shows are the characters because they think they're quirky or cute or whatever the fuck, but they all fall within pretty average stereotypes.

It's only popular, that's all, it's popular. Not good, just popular.

Actually there is. Teenage girl is god, she seek excitement and novelty in her life and a bunch of supernatural beings created by her but also a normal guy have to satisfy it.

Kyon does a 180 by the end of Disappearance, Haruhi changes from a supernatural obsessed girl to a person who learns to have fun in more normal way (she still seeks supernatural but not because she really want it or believe in it, it's to have fun searching for it with the rest of the Brigade). Koizumi's troubles are established despite him being mysterious. Nagato goes from a seemingly emotionless robot to a fragile being who was screaming for help but wasn't listened to because everyone was too busy. Future Mikuru gave us some insight on Mikuru's character and how she lived the SOS Brigade.

It's like you didn't watch the show. Just watching the Live Alive episode would show you Kyon and Haruhi are way different from ep 1.

Haruhi's delusions get worse until she almost destroys the world for them, she changes her mind at the last second because Kyon shows her there's more than that to life. Kyon stops being that grumpy guy complaining all the time and says he enjoys his life (which also seals the official creation of the Brigade). It happens in a 6 episodes arc which also introduced the setting and the characters, so if you missed it you should start watching with your brains on.

There was also a plot there, I don't know why you keep saying there isn't. Haruhi is a girl capable of extraordinary things and almost ends up destroying the world.

And it was the best experience ever on /a/
Endless 8 was an audacious and risky decision from KyoAni/Kadokawa, but it surely created one of the most unique and memorable anime experiences. Not only on /a/ but in japan and the whole world.

And they didn't just decide to do it from nowhere. Remember it's an actual arc from the original novel, and 8 episodes was just a pun with the name. Endless 8, Endless August.

Also it didn't destroy the franchise in any way. The movie was a huge success and even in 2014 when we had Haruhi Hunting, the fanbase was still very strong and the hype was amazing! HH was a big disappointment, though.
