Back when Tenchi aired on Toonami alongside DBZ, I used to think they took place in the same world because of Ryoko's tail. I thought she was a female Saiyan.
Dude, she's got a cat theme going. Though back then we didn't know better.
I think it's:
Ryoko = Cat
Eika and Sasami = Beetles
Washu = Crab (if it wasn't obvious)
Mihoshi = Bunny
Tenchi = Hawk
Kagato = Scorpion
Miracle of the universe.
Kagato had a Snake motif, and how do Ayeka and Sasami have a Beetle theme?
>and how do Ayeka and Sasami have a Beetle theme?
Yeah I pulled that one out of my butt. really their long ponytails make me thing of antani and the shape of the rest of their hair makes me think of a shell, well Eika's anyway.
Also Dr. Clay was an octopus.
A lot of guys like tomboys, and a lot of guys like girls who are sexually aggressive. Also, her voice in the Japanese version was pure sex
I'm a GXP man, myself, though
>never knew how people preferred her to ayeka.
She is loyal and dedicated. Ayaka couldn't do that even if she wanted to, because she is a princess and her family comes first.
Ryoko literally threw herself into being Tenchi's wife. She went so far as to request that her bedroom be designed to look like a farmer's shed, to match Tenchi's profession as a farmer. Whatever he wants to do, she will follow him. Doesn't matter that she was a world famous pirate, all that is irrelevant to her. She dedicates herself to love, and few could ever do that.
Harem end so strong his kids have their own harem
Well officially no one yet, but the creator of the main OVAs made a little fan-manga of what'd he like to see happen to the gang.
Tenchi ends up with like 12 kids with all the girls. even Ryo-Ohki.
She was present when he was born, and she functioned as his guardian angel for his entire childhood. She was there at his mum's funeral, and once day took the body of a dying stray cat Tenchi couldn't save, and lived on as his pet all the way to the start of the anime. That cat's body then became the basis for Ryou-oh-ki. Yosho could see her astral projection and basically approved of it.
Even the bunny-cat
Especially the bunny-cat
Tenchi sticks his dick in everything. Even the space ship.
>Even the bunny-cat
>Especially the bunny-cat
I can't help but envision Ryoko being present and reassuring her younger sister during the impregnation.
A face of rage or 'I just shit myself' you figure it out.
And speaking of sisters, I imagine Sasami took multiple steps to ensure she had Tenchi alone when she finally got her turn.
You should fix that.
The franchise has had a few additions since then and OVA 4 is being made right now.
That's right, and Washu is Mihoshi's Great-Great-Grandmother.
Now learn the family tree to these kids. >>138771123
>Tenchi and Ayeka had children...um isn't Ayeka like Tenchi's great aunt or something??
Technically the entire human race on Earth was an ancient offshoot of Jurai. When you are 4 or 5 generations off it barely matters.
>Even the space ship.
Especially the spaceship
Thats like second cousin territory and no big deal. Or its like European royalty and they were all inbred anyway, but instead of insanity and rare disorders, turns into fuckin space magic.
>Any news on it?
The latest doijin has Kajishima mentioning that it is progressing but don't expect any news until next year. He is also writing a new book on Tenchi's step mum.
>and once day took the body of a dying stray cat Tenchi couldn't save, and lived on as his pet all the way to the start of the anime.
Oh, so that's what happened to the cat. I thought she ate it.
Yup, and even through a few generations Tenchi's parents are cousins.
All we know so far is that the first episode is about Noboyuki and Reia's wedding.
And I think 7 episodes? And enough material for another season after this, but no confirmation about the chances of that.
Though Kajishima did release this two or three comikets ago.
I'm not sure who the other woman is.
Azusa's mother, maybe?
I'm excited at the prospect of Misaki and Mitoto being in each other's company.
And it looks like Reia's joining the space-illuminati.
>And it looks like Reia's joining the space-illuminati.
Well, she DID needed them to send one of the princes to be a hero in another dimension. For that, she is in their debt. These women has gotten Reia by the ovaries.
Yeah, but she doesn't need the whole council to do that, just Washu.
And if she does need more than that, I'm sure Seto jumped at the chance to spread the family tree into another reality.
Z pulled her out of the far future, after Azusa and Funaho died.
The black spots are where the palace guards or something shot her after she snapped.
>Fuck, and she was so sweet and caring.
It is only one of the possible futures. Things can change. Nothing has to be set in stone. For example, it was possible that Tenchi could have died at some point in the original OVAs, and it would have triggered a space time anomaly that erases God-Tenchi from the timeline. What could happen doesn't always have to happen.
That's some YYS tier filename, but at least you know, who the best girls are.
Patrea Burchard is the only voice I can take for Ryoko and the reason I still haven't watched OVA 3.
But from what everyone tells me, I'm not missing anything.
>ayeka.jpg with green hair
I would post an angry Ayeka reaction pic but I don't have reaction pics of her because she is worst girl.
Planned Harem end from the beginning, pretty sure theres some concept art showing Tokimi as part of the harem. But yeah, Tenchi has like 8 daughters and they all end up marrying Seina's sons. Tenchi does have a son with Washu that becomes an archeologist and bones his ancestor's sister, I "think" he eventually has a second kid with Ryoko.
>>THAT VOICE HOLY SHIT
While Petrea Burchard's voice is good, Orikasa Ai's voice is a miracle of the universe. Especially when singing.
She is the literally bastardization of my waifu. Full on cancer mode. I for one am glad I reject those shorts after episode 1. I wouldn't bring myself to see her in that state.
Nor the rest of the group.
LOOK AT THIS!
I love Ryoko, doesn't give a fuck about being exposed.
Ryoko's english VA made me diamonds. This was back in 98 when I first seen Tenchi Muyo In Love on SciFi on Saturday morning. Then saving my lunch money to buy those VHS tapes that had 2 OVA episodes for 24 bucks a pop. Me and my bro collected them all. The entire universe collection too.
I watched it all, absolute shite
tfw no Petrea Burchard voice ;-;
waiting 20mins on 56k for this image to load, it gets to the boobs, I'm fappin my dad catches me. First time getting caught fappin. I LOVE YOU RYOKO
Doubtful. Kajishima was content to relegate the 5 original girls to tertiary status in OVA 3. He'll probably create new characters and demote Noike to tertiary as well. We'll get 6 episodes of pointless SoL fluff and 1 ep that moves the plot forward. Look forward to it.
>So, like the OVA series?
Ummm yeah? Where the hell did you think I conjured up that expectation if not from the OVA series itself? At least the filler in the first two series focused on the main cast. I don't give two shits about Mihoshi's brother or Yosho's extended family when it means the characters I know and love are shut out for the majority of the run time.
It really has though, in OVA 3 Tenchi got smashed by the bad guy and rather than dying he just became god and reset the universe, think about that, how do you ever get tension again when Tenchi can just alter space and time as he pleases?
80's glam hair is GOAT but even I know it has no place in a modern series.
Shit that's on too small a scale for the Choushin to just fix with a wave of their hand, like some political intrigue.
Send the group on a trip to Jurai, that shit writes itself.
There's a huge difference in the two though, you can still create a battle, in fact there SHOULD have been a proper battle at the end of OVA 3 so that Tenchi could come into his own as a character, instead we get more of him not actually doing anything other than acquiring overwhelming power through deus ex machina and no skill of his own and ending the confrontation.
Man, this series turned out better than I expected. I thought it was just another boring harem anime, but then it turn out not only to be funny but had some interesting worldbuilding as well. Gotta say that GXP was probably my favorite one overall ESPECIALLY because they actually went to space and stayed there.
Also, why the heck was Pretty Sammy TV so good? Mahou Shoujo shows aren't usually that good, are they?
>Gotta say that GXP was probably my favorite one overall
I liked the first two OVAs and Pretty Sammy almost as much, but the space theme got me liking it just a bit more. Even if the ending was dumb, it didn't ruin what was already there too much
Seina becoming part of the Jurai family was a bit much, though. It also helped that Seina's face wasn't as dumb as Tenchi's.
I like it. The fun part is having the point of the royal family turned on its head.
Most people become Royals because they are born into it. But sometimes there are other ways.
>>Gotta say that GXP was probably my favorite one overall
GXP has serious issues, but behind the mess that was low class toilet humour, Kajishima's story still exists. The director was shit but the original plot was still good.
I'm so confused.
SHE WAS PERFECT!!!!!!
>Kajishima's story still exists
I NEED it to be translated.
Is it worth getting into the written works for this series? I've only watched the OVAs and most of the spinoffs in the OVA continuity. Is there like a chart or list of what I should read?
There's a few novels made while the other two creators were still involved, and I think one is translated.
And there's not quite 20 GXP novels written after Kajishima wasn't satisfied with how the anime turned out.
And there's 20 years worth of doujins, but only a few more recent ones have been scanned and even less translated.
I've got a feeling I'm going to have to learn Japanese to really get any deeper into this series, huh. Well, I guess I'll just add that to my list of reasons to practice the language.
tfw I'm on episode 12 of tenchi universe and I didn't think the pic would be that spoilery.
>I've got a feeling I'm going to have to learn Japanese to really get any deeper into this series, huh. Well, I guess I'll just add that to my list of reasons to practice the language.
The Tenchi Muyo franchise stopped being an anime series and became books after the 2nd ova series. Kajishima is basically a full time author now. Sort of an interesting turn of events.
If I didn't have a choice between the English dub and the much better Japanese dub, I'd probably have to start liking her voice, too. She sounds way too much like a grandma in English.
I actually like Washu sounding old in English. Even though she de-aged herself into a loli, I found her sounding old and trying desperately to act young to be rather endearing and fit perfectly to Washu's personality and how everyone else saw her.
I didn't even know she was trying to pretend she was Sasami's age until I rewatched it again a few years ago.
I always just thought she wanted to be petite for some reason.
Ryoko and Washu were the best parts of the show.
Maybe Mihoshi being dumb also contributed to my enjoyment somewhat, but Ryoko and Washu were responsible for like 98% of my enjoyment of Tenchi Muyo.
Airi and Tennyo have similar thoughts.
Oh no, muh sonic OC in self insertion the series
>Maybe Mihoshi being dumb also contributed to my enjoyment somewhat
OVA Mihoshi isn't dumb, just brain-damaged. A part of her still knows what she is doing perfectly fine, she just couldn't act normal. That's why she is still a First Class detective, because her duties are still performed at the highest standards and her grandpa just couldn't find a good enough excuse to tell her to stop and come home.
For example, during the Doctor Clay rad she was able to hit all her targets despite what appear to be her firing at random.
That's something I just won't forgive Universe for- Mihoshi's not an idiot, she's an airhead.
It took the council of Jurai five days to work through her report on Kagato because she wrote down every detail at length until she had several novels worth written.
>That and she's somewhat of a goddess.
Nope, not even gods in the Tenchiverse have power over random chance like she does. Luck is a real thing in their world but even gods could not grant luck to someone intentionally. People like Mihoshi and Seina Yamada are anomalies beyond the control of even gods.
i know right. but that was how it was supposed to be. Listen to her convo with Funaho. She literally goes from sounding like a kid to a MILF in just milliseconds. Her VA had some serious skills to be able to pull that off.
Can anyone make sense of the third OVA's ending?
Who exactly was Noike? Was that Noike at the end as well? The little girl Tenchi found at the end was Noike, right? Who the heck was Noike?
She is sort of Kagato's female half that was spilt off.
Really, the entire thing of Kagato being a former hermaphrodite, him hating his female side and physically had that part separate into a independent organism, is not something you get to find out unless you read the novels.
>Oh ok good, so I wasn't supposed to understand it. Now it makes more sense. It sucks they couldn't just kind of put that in there to make things less confusing.
As I explained it earlier, over the last decade the Tenchi Muyo franchise became a series of novels. So now the novels are canon and the anime is the derivative work. Which is of course, rathe silly because it started as an anime. But what can you do? Kajishima couldn't get the money together to make anime on his own.
Noike was an orphan that Seto adopted because she took a shine to her and wanted to marry her to Tenchi.
The little girl was the female half of Kagato, who grew to resent women.
Kagato was a hermaphroditic clone of Washu's friend Akira Nanja. The guy from OVA 1 was the male half.
Akira Nanja is implied to have been reborn as Seto, somehow.
Do you have any questions?
That was the last shorter episode, right? I don't think I understood it when I watched.
So basically it can be put into interdimensional shenanigans, right? None of this is supposed to make sense is what I'm still getting from this.
>So basically it can be put into interdimensional shenanigans, right? None of this is supposed to make sense is what I'm still getting from this.
More like this is what happens when we have superscience mixed with multiple mad scientists.
>So basically it can be put into interdimensional shenanigans, right? None of this is supposed to make sense is what I'm still getting from this.
Oh, and it is implied that Noike's future daughter actually had serious medical issues, and it took a lot of skill to solve it. The mess of her DNA probably had something to do with it.
Cloning and reincarnation Shenanigans rather than interdimensional.
The interdimensional shenanigans are Reia's backstory.
There's supposed to be support for it in the GXP novels, but I can't give much detail.
Washu found out about it when she scanned Seto after she collapsed during her visit in OVA 3, and the Akira Nanja side comes out when she's asleep or something?
>None of this is supposed to make sense is what I'm still getting from this.
What doesn't make sense? It's pretty clear
Kagato was a clone
Clone Kagato was a herm
Clone didn't like his vagoo
Clone split vagoo off into a loli
Z's attack sends Tenchi back in time and he saves Vagoo Kagato
Vagoo is adopted by Seto in the time period she gets dumped in
Basically LHW users shouldn't fight each other, bad stuff happens when one of them is cut by the other. The Counteractor stuff makes less sense than the Noike stuff in the anime since that's entirely not told in the OVA.
But basically time is a dimension and Tenchi can travel it. Z's attack forced him to do it
The last bit there is wrong.
Loli was found by Dr. Clay.
Loli was forced inside Noike at some point. Maybe when she was a kid.
After Washu removes Clay's seal, she just kinda dissolves into Noike.
>Basically LHW users shouldn't fight each other, bad stuff happens when one of them is cut by the other.
The interesting thing is that there is a limit to how much energy a universe can contain, and that means LHW users fighting each other can exceed that limit and actually break the universe. Sure, they can put the pieces back, but that still means it is best never to break anything to begin with.
Yeah, japanese respect their seniors so much they'd rather have aged VA unless VA themselves want out, like Ayeka's VA who's retired long ago. I actually like her new VA a lot, very decent replacement.
If there's an answer, I don't know it.
As an apology, have some best Geminars.
It's the best thing since the first OVAs.
After the first episode, it's mostly school and harem shenanigans, and after that the plot kicks in and you get the robot fights you were promised.
And if you think Kenshi is a Gary Stu, look at it this way- he was trained to be that fucking good at everything, and he gets the piloting skills from his mother.
>Is that show good? I tried to watch the first episode but the opening kind of turned me off so I turned that off real quick.
Bad mistake. It is proof that Kajisima still writes good stories and why we still have hope of a good new series of OVAs. Isekai is the reason we still care about more Tenchi Muyo.
>he was trained to be that fucking good at everything,
He used his wings power to cancel Tenchi's.
