Really often in anime I see the "I'll send you my number via infrared" where people give each other their phone numbers all fast and such.
I don't have any friends or anything so this is just curiosity, but is this a real phone thing or an anime phone thing?

Furthermore, are crepes really that popular with kids after school in japan or is that an anime thing too?

The infrared thing is real, I think it should be obsolete though. I remember I was using it before phones had bluetooth.
