You think he'll be back? Lupin was such a insane ride.
>That final scene
>Final episode of Lupin 2015 airs and no thread in the catalogue
What the fuck /a/?
Of course he'll be back.
>>138760412
I'm saving the two last episodes to watch back to back tonight, but unless they fuck up in a colossal way I agree. Blue Jacket was pretty cool, I hope the next iteration doesn't take too long.
>>138760412
I'm literally two episodes behind. I expect a good finale though.
>Final episode
Time to marathon. I stopped watching because they hyped the da vinci stuff then they forgot about it the next episode.
>>138761733
It's episodic, they're obviously saving it for the final few episodes.
I'm not a fan of the last arc, or rather, Da Vinci, but damn if that last half of the episode didn't get me really sad. It was a fun show.
Next week I'm gonna get ready to watch this, realize it's done, then get really sad.

Loved the series from start to finish, a fully enjoyable ride. Now I just hope it doesn't take so long for him to return.
>>138760412
Fuck, that final scene was good.

I just want the series to continue. Perhaps leave Italy because I'm tired of that setting.
I just dont want to wait 30 years for part 5. everyone who works on the show will be dead by then.
AOTY
>>138764074
We'll get some fresh talent though

The manga will be fifty years old next year. They ought to have something to celebrate.
>>138762389
Lupin has always and will always be simply cool.
>>138764291
You mean like a TV special which is something we already get every year
>>138764181
That's the problem. You dont want new people to fuck up the formula.
>>138763071

Well duh. If not soon, then when they get dubbed in english, they'll also get subbed.

Lupin in prison, probably
My other favorites are Jigen goes to the dentist, the hotel, and the episode where Fujiko saves Lupin. That episode did more to make me like her as a character than what I've seen in the past decade
My favorite episode was the Christmas special...Oh wait. There wasn't one.
fucking japs.
>>138763559
to be fair, you jumped into a series finale thread. At least some spoilers are expected, and you're a fool for expecting otherwise
>>138764908
this. the series went on all throughout december. It would of been better if it had that one feel good episode.
So is this a general Lupin thread or we just talking about the serires finale?
>>138765275
looks like more of a finale/blue jacket general
>>138765349
well that sucks considering general Lupin threads dont last long. Making it more specific just means this thread it last about another half hour at the most.

I don't think the Japanese would know much about how Italians celebrate Christmas anyway.

>Zenigata walks away with a tear in his eye as he realizes what Lupin has done for him
>At a distance, Zenigata wishes Lupin a Merry Christmas too without turning around
>Camera view of the snow outside of Lupin's cell window
>end credits with christmas music playing

>>138766841
I know you're kidding but still.
>>138763008
I can't decide between the car one and the spooky hotel one. Such beautiful chapters. I'm glad this series happened. I'm not a fan of the whole big plot from the series, to be honest; but in the middle there were many chapters that reminded us what make this characters so great.
>>138766749
If that episode were to happen, It would easily be in the top 10 greatest Lupin episodes of ll time.

I hope they remake all the old series. I could finally get around to starting the Lupin series then.
>>138767273

you do realize how dumb you seem by saying that, right? Just watch the old series.
I dropped it at the first episode, it was too generic, especially compared to Mine Fujiko and the Jigen movie. Does it pick up later or more of the same?

The Osumi Green Jacket/Series 1 episodes, and even that's not totally like Monkey Punch's Lupin.
I wish Shin Lupin III was completely translated.
Which subs are good to watch blue jacket? I've held off watching this so I could marathon it, and though I was following the threads I forgot if there were any preferred subs that people were using.Inb4 "use the subs for the Italian dub".
>>138767540
I liked about the first half of Minne Fujiko, but that's about it. The second half was really uninteresting. The Jigen OVAs were quite good though.
>>138767679
As far as I know, at the beginning there were no subs, then someone started translating it from the Italian release; afterwards one or two guys corrected those translations to make them closer to the Japanese broadcast. But finally crunchyroll added it, with official English subs. Of course, everything that crunchyroll adds with such subs gets translated by HorribleSubs, so unless I'm wrong the HorribleSubs releases are the official translation to English.
>>138767648
It would be awesome if they did a faithful adaptation to the manga to celebrate the 50 years. If not the whole manga, at least some arc.

season 2 of Spaghetti Lupin when?
>>138767807
I have thought of something like that...
A lot of the older series from parts 1 - 3 use concepts/stories straight from the manga with some alterations.
There was also this show called Monkey Punch: Manga Katsudou Daishashin, which kind of follows more of Monkey Punch's style of the series (as well as animating other Monkey Punch comics/stories).
I love MP's Lupin, but I also can't help but love the different takes of him in the anime adaptations.
I thought this was 26 episodes?
>>138767944

>>138768054
you do realize that show was heavily praised by the common viewer but only gets shit on in a couple of forums and a few people on /a/. Even then the opinions are not even half and half
>>138768123
so why does tokyopop get a lot of criticism in the manga community? I heard that their translations arent very good, but they seem pretty good in the Lupin volumes.. aside from the fact they make Lupin seem like a brit by having him say shit like "bloody hell" and "mate". Isnt Tokyopop an American based company? I mean what the fuck
>>138768123
Any chance you'll ever scan the missing volumes?
You wouldn't even need to even ruin the volumes, just a LQ scan will suffice. It's better than the nothing we have right now.

Best episodes: 6, 13, 20
The last arc was pretty dope too, though. The whole concept is cool. I think Rebecca's characterization was a bit all over the place, but everything else was interesting.
>>138768707
Volume 3 alone is 40+ $ on Amazon. If I had that kind of money I would have scaned them myself in the first place.
>>138760412
Made a thread shortly after the finale's subs came out, but it died shortly. Looks like Lupin threads are only active during night /a/. Anyways I loved this Lupin and it got me to check out the rest of Lupin past part 1, which I already really liked.
>>138767807
After reading most of the original manga, I wouldn't want that at all. I prefer the fun, clever and altruistic anime Lupin over the murdering, raping, James-Bond-wannabe manga Lupin. The good chapters got adapted but there were plenty of chapters all he does is shoot his enemies before they shoot him. Nothing interesting about them.
>>138769117
Speaking of, I've seen part 1, 4, and a few of the movies? What is worth watching next? Not looking to jump into something as big as red jacket so I'm talking more movies/specials.

are you referring to Worlds Most Wanted?
>>138769168
Actually I'm still on Red jacket, one episode a day for me. It starts off inconsistent in the first dozen eps, but it gets pretty good shortly after. Episode 2 is pretty fucking amazing though, surely see that. I really liked the Walther P38, First Contact, and Jigen's Gravestone specials too

>walther P38
>first contact
>jigens gravestone
in that order. trust me. I'm an expert on great lupin shit.
>>138769358
I've seen Mamo, Cag, DoA, $1, and Jigen. Most were pretty great, though missed by a dollar and DoA was kinda meh. You're right that DoA had some cool visuals near the end there though.
>>138769428
Missed by a dollar was great because I love how zenigata mourned Lupin. Also loved how Lupin was such a playboy in it.
definitely check out P38. It's usually everyones favorite OVA. was a badass movie. Gold Babylon was weird but really enjoyable and had great nice colors. Fuma is just a beautiful film, Pretty much Cagliostro 2.0 but not good. Still great though
>>138769303
That's fucking weird considering I paid like 8 dollars for mine and its in great conditioning. Try EBay? I'm trying to remember if I got mine from there or amazon. It was literally not long ago.
I also bought volumes 4-13 from a cool guy on eBay about a week ago (already had 1-3) paid $200 for that set. Some of the books are worth $40-$60 individually. Volume 13 was out of print and hard to find for less than $100.
But like I said. Try eBay. There's a seller on there selling volumes 1-14 for only $215 which will be the best deal you will be able to find for a long time.
Or just search for volume 3 on there if that's all your looking for
>>138769549
Whoops. Meant not as good*
It's fantastic
>>138769714
How'd you feel about the different voice cast?
>>138768989
Rebecca was somewhat fucked because they skipped the episode when she falls for Lupin.
>>138769746
I grew up with the adult swim dub so I don't care as much as other anons
I will say I'd still prefer the original jap cast over the other jap cast they replaced though. Was just dumb, but they were still really good in it.
It's not like I can understand what the fuck they're saying so it didnt bother me as much. The only thing that actually annoyed me was them not using Yuji Ohno for the soundtrack. It just didnt feel right.
>>138769673
215$ is literally more than what I make in a month.
I informed myself already with what deals are available and considering I don't live in the US (or in a country with a decent postal service) the shipping alone is killing any initiative I'd have.
And not to be rude or anything of the sort, but it's kinda irritating when people pretend to know better than you what you know and don't know, especially when you spent quite some time getting documented on the subject. You could just have said "No, I don't want to scan them" and be done with the whole thing. Nothing wrong with it, y'know.
Only seen the first episode so far, how did it compare to the 2013 series?
>>138770007
I'm not the person you were asking to scan the book.
I mean I would do it, but I really dont how or care that much to do it.
Also I just wanted to give you some friendly advice since you said volume 3 was $40 on amazon. I bough mine for MUCH cheaper so that made me think you werent aware of some other places that you may be able to find it for a better price.

>>138768606
I never considered scanning the original manga because I found the majority of it alreadh uploaded. I have considered scanning Shin Lupin III but considering the fact that there is hardly a demand for it, I don't see why I should bother.
Most people I know don't like MP's Lupin because of how crude he is. I'm a fan of it, personally, but to each their own.
So 24 or 26 episodes? Were those two airing in Italy?
>>138777184
Volumes 5, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13 are all missing of the original manga. That's almost half of the volumes, not a lot of people want to read stuff when they see such a big gap of missing content.
I'm also a fan of the manga, but again, I can't even try to recommend it since it's missing so many volumes.
Not only that, but I'm sure lots of people are interested but don't really talk about it. This was my first post about the manga after all, and I've been into Lupin since the Fujiko series aired. Granted I wasn't really into manga back then, but my point still stands.

Nyx is fine simply because he can act in a niche that neither Lupin or Zenigata can't.

Really? I like most Goemon centered episodes in all series, it just seems rare to have Goemon centered stories in the first place, and he often doesn't work well as a minor/secondary character.
>>138782502
I liked Rebecca and Nyx. Rebecca doesn't need to come back, but I'd really like more Nyx somehow.
>>138784573
I wish he had been more prominent this series. He had that one episode to himself, but the rest of the time he was just sorta there.
>>138784682
I think that's what the main plot of this show did to pretty much every character that wasn't Lupin or Rebecca.
Is it necessary to watch the older Lupin shows to enjoy this?
I wanted to watch this because it had some bitching cool OP, but when it started it had no subs, so its popularity got quite low, too.
>>138786227
Not really, but you should watch them anyway because they're good. Particularly the first series.
>>138786307
Ok then, into the backlog it goes.
What are the italian exclusive episodes? Ep 24 was the final one right? But on mall it's listed as 26 eps
>>138785802
It feels like Nyx got more screentime than Goemon, It felt like he was only in like three episodes.
>>138787153
That's only because he did get more screentime.
>>138787023
The wikipedia page should have them listed.
>>138787023
Zombie a Venezia, italian episode 6.
Rendez-vous senza fermate, italian episode 23.
>>138788721
Where they too controversial for Japanese TV?
>>138788793
They probably just wanted to give them more incentive to buy the BDs.
I want a new Lupin game.
Will there be second OST?
Because I do not think that the track which played in the last scene was included in the first one.
>>138790696
I thought there already was one.
Are there any good torrents for parts 2–3? I grabbed Horrible's one for part 1, but it's hardsubbed. I think I'll just buy the DVD for that, instead, but there aren't any official releases for the other parts.
>>138792336
If HS has any for those parts you might want to stick with them. Most of the other subs are crabsticks.
Discotek does have a DVD set for part 2 coming soon if you don't mind waiting and spending the dosh.
I wonder if they'll keep the blue jacket next time
>>138792733
Horrible has subs for all of parts 1–3, but I was just put off by the hard subs with low image quality. I really don't mind buying or waiting, though. I was going to buy everything anyway, but I wanted to see if I could get my fix just off the tail of part 4.
Is there any point in getting into Lupin III for the backstory? I mean do things progress?
I quite liked the Mine Fujiko and Jigen Daisuke spinoffs but I'm not sure if I'll enjoy the main series. For the same reason I don't like Conan and other shows, too much fluff. A mandatory watching list might be good too, although I'm already expecting to be shouted at by Lupin purists.
>>138760412
Wait, series should be 26. Not 24
>>138792860
It's episodic.
>>138763008
>>138769358
>>138792860
Sorry, I actually read through the thread. So I'm covered for the mandatory watching list. Although I'd still like questions answered.
>>138792860
Part 4 (the one airing now) would be a good transition from Mine and Jigen, while still being in line with the series' general tone. As >>138792925 said, it's episodic, so you can safely jump in pretty much anywhere. I'd say give it a shot. If you haven't already, try the Cagliostro movie for a classic on the exact opposite end of the spectrum.
>>138792925
I understand that, but I want to know if there's a story like Conan and the Black coats.
Is Lupin a one dimensional character (not that it's a bad thing) or is he one of those tragic past type of characters? Stuff like that
I don't want to watch Mine Fujiko spinoff.
>>138793060
Also, forgot to mention this, but there really isn't some grand over-arching backstory to the series. It's all a bunch of vignettes.
>>138793078
He's not really a tragic character at all, at least in the anime, but he is nuanced enough to not be one-dimensional. For the most part, he's a goofy thief who opposes the law at every turn but who generally has a heart of gold. I think the best episodes are those that pull something slightly novel out of the characters, either by showing some unexplored aspect or by shining something that was well-known in a different light. The character might change much, but there's still a ton of flexibility and room to explore things. Lupin's only about as good his its situations and how well they're tailored to testing the characters, however that happens to be with a given episode.
>>138793291
*might not change much
>>138793190
Then don't.
So blue lupin ended?
>>138793078
Sometimes I feel like Conan might be better without an ongoing plot. But then again, it'd probably be the same as Kindaichi Case Files without it.
>>138793611
Yes.
>>138793669
How about that?
>>138793820
Two of the episodes are blu-ray only in Japan.
>>138793860

Does anybody have a download link if so?
>>138793190
Skip all the plot related ones. Makes it considerably better. It had a great style, visual direction and OST going for it. But the Owl shit was really fucking bad and tainted the good points.
>>138798123
Different anon, but I heard all of the best episodes are those without Fujiko in them. Is that true, more or less?
>>138798363
No, the first episode was good.
Little behind, but I just finished the life support and Japanese investigator episodes. I think those were some of the best episodes so far, and I thought the former especially was really well done.
holy shit. This thread is still alive? That is a pleasant surprised.
Any news on the english dub?
>>138775289
Naruto is not praised. We all know it's shit and only watch it because it's so bad that it's good.
>>138777808
well the manga itself is so episodic it doesnt really matter what volume to read outside maybe the first couple chapters of the 1st volume
>>138799529
Depends on how recently you looked up info. Nothing new besides what we know the English cast, though we still don't know who'll be taking over as Zenigata.
>>138799569
You'd be surprised.
>>138799520
I really liked the latter. I like when Fujiko gives a fuck about Lupin and I like when the series has parodies of famous literary detectives.
Plus, it was nice to get out Italy for a bit.
Did the Italianon sub the IO episodes?
Did anyone else watch the ED every single episode?Dame dame
>>138800627
Yes
>>138799756
I heard ZZenigata may be played by doug erholtz which concerns me unless he's just going to voice match OG dub zenigata which should be the case.

Ah shit, I didn't find this thread until it was almost over.
I went through this series because it was the easiest to find online but I'd been wanting to watch more of Lupin III for a while now. It seems like just a fun, action-y anime with no powerlevel bullshit, romantic subplots or 600 chapter story arcs, which is refreshing given what I normally watch/read.
I've checked out Cagliostro because that's the one that everyone recommends but where else would be a good place to start?
>>138804398
Series 1, Series 2. They're pretty good, it varies a lot with Series 2 though. They'll make you appreciate Series 3 (2015) a lot more.
>>138804153
Honestly, I think I'd rather have the next series take place all around the world if there is to be one.
>>138804432
series 3 is the pink jacket series. Are you this much of a casual?
>>138804398
Watch series 1, 2, and 3 only if you liked series 2 a lot.
Check out some of the movies.
Mamo
Gold Babylon
Wakther P38
and Missed by a Dollar are a good start.
there are a lot more i wanna recommend, but I dont wanna give you too much right now.
>>138804432
Thank you. How are the movies/OVA? Any particular standouts?
>>138805023

>>138804432
and read
>>138804900
>>138804900
Thank you! I don't have nearly as much time to bingewatch a series anymore so the movies are probably what I'll be seeing the most of.
With that said, my problem with 2015 and Cagliostoro was that the viewer was supposed to already know who the supporting cast was. Obviously it's pretty straightforward but I still would like to see how they are initially introduced to Lupin. I'll start with series 1 and then probably check out the movies you listed before getting too far into series 2 (series 2 is the one that's more than 100 episodes right?)
>>138805118
The way Jigen and Lupin meet are never really shown in the shows. If you wanted to, you can check out Jigen's Gravestone which is sort of an origin type story OVA. It's really good.
Series 2 is 155 episodes. It's hit or miss really. series 1 had the best episodes. Episodes 1-12 are hit or miss, but 13-23 are GOAT. definitely check those out.
>>138805118
If you want an introduction to the characters, it may be a good idea to watch the pilot film before watching the first series.
Gonna read some Rupan manga because I own them fortunatelyand you guys dont
>>138804900
I notice Fuma Conspiracy isn't on there, but if I were intersted in watching it, where could I find an english dub?
>in4b just watch subs fag
>>138805637
I wanted to put fuma on there but like I said, didnt want to add too much.
and dont worry, I'm not some purist scumbag. I'd take a dub over reading mostly becuae of convenience. Plus Lupin dubs are usually great anyway, Although I do still prefer the OG Jap actors more.
Although I will highly recommend you not watch the Fuma conspiracy dubbed though because it is legitimately bad. I'm not someone who notices bad dubs that often, but this dub is truly horrible. The voices dont fit the characters, and the actors are shit.
If you you really want to just watch it and not download it, there was a website that I watched it on about a month ago, but I cant seem to find it right now, so just keep looking on goodgle. Wouldnt recommend the dub though. Even though the original Jap actors were replaced in Fuma, the new cast was at least good in it and were still professional voice actors.
why do I always have to save the thread.

We see Lupin meet Jigen for the first time in the Fujiko series. One of the greatest episodes of the whole franchise.
It's Zenigata who never had a first meeting with Lupin episode.
>>138805284
>Episodes 1-12 are hit or miss, but 13-23 are GOAT. definitely check those out.
I agree with Series 2 being very hit and miss, but Series 1 first half is just as good as the second if not better. First half has only one shitty episode, the bridge asshole one, while the second has the island of thieves and the computer being sucky.
>>138808181
I think Lupin and Zenigata's first meeting is only really covered in the manga.
>>138808181
>We see Lupin meet Jigen for the first time in the Fujiko series
I was going to say that, but the Fujiko series is not canon so i didnt.
as for the 1st series, I honestly felt there were some not very interesting episodes like the 1st and pycal episodes. The 2nd half is really where the show picks up. It starts to show life in the characters
>>138808268
It wasnt really their first encounter though.
But he gets angry sometimes
>>138807298
OP here, I'm in tears of joy. This thread has become beautiful.
>>138808513
I just assumed that the inspector character in the second to last Young Lupin chapter was Zenigata, to be honest.
>>138808459
>Fujiko series is not canon
This statement has no meaning.
There are very few episodes that directly adapt the manga so that would mean most of the series is not canon.
And while I love the Green jacket as a whole, I think some of the later episodes push the comdey too much and make it look a bit to clownish. Like the episode where there were vacuum cleaning the jewels on a heist.
>>138808675
but he's a groovy guy
>>138808867
the manga and shows are separate things.
>>138808867
>Like the episode where there were vacuum cleaning the jewels on a heist.
Strangely enough, that part of the episode was adapted from the manga.
>>138809152
That's why I am saying canon doesn't mean much in Lupin franchise
>>138809154
Huh.
I guess Pink jacket series had the most manga inspiration then.
>>138809635
canon does mean something in the Lupin franchise or else they wouldnt specifically name them as "parts"
The manga has it's own continuity just like how the series does also.
>>138810161
>or else they wouldnt specifically name them as "parts"
What does this have to do with anything? And only Pink Jacket is called PART III, the first two don't have this.
>>138810718
It means everything because it indicates there is a continuity between the multiple series therefor there is a canon story that is told. The beginning of this conversation happened because some anon said the Fujiko series was not canon to the main TV universe which is true, so the events of Lupin meeting Jigen in one of the episodes is not an official origin.
>>138811619

I'd like to think that if I ever get into a fistfight, it won't be over Chinese monkey man cartoons.
>>138800627
The ED is fucking amazing. It's a good display of Fujiko's character, and the song itself is also pretty great.
I love it when a studio actually puts effort into an ED instead of just having a bunch of stills or having a few throwaway animations. It absolutely kills me how many studios are just content to slap generic shit in the OP and ED.

>>138816257
They did invest a lot more money into it with their first ever dub cast. I imagine they must of cut the cost by making less of them.
So if people want them, I highly suggest they preorder now unless you want to pay $100 for it later on, or settle for the inferior sub only japanese dvd release.

I agree. the chilling beginning is GOAT. Although I like the singer, I don't really like how she sounds like a old hag. Just not a very great voice.

>>138816465
She just sounds like a Japanese woman with a deep voice to me.
>>138816474
Lupin only hates them because he wasraped by one as a child
>>138816494
maybe that's it. Too masculine sounding for my taste. Plus her vocal range just isnt good enough to hit high notes.
>>138816553
There was a cover version of that song in the beginning of Green VS Red, but unfortunately the background singers didnt have the same chilling sound as the originals did which makes the song pointless to me. If only it had the best of both worlds.
>>138816553
I like how unpolished her voice is, it gives the original feel a little more heartfelt than later covers. That's just my opinion though.
How come Zenigata never talks about his daughter? Is he afraid Lupin may try to have sex with her?
Anyone got a link to that music video from some Japanese band that is pretty much a Lupin episode?

I went on amazon to see how much Volume 5 was out of curiosity because some volumes go for ridiculous prices. What's weird is it much much cheaper than volume 3. Volume 3 I picked up for less than $10, yet the price on amazon is a lot more.
How do you price these books? you'd think the later volumes would be more expensive than the previous because less are made due to lack of sales, but then you have situations like what I just mentioned above.

>>138817320
no? why would it be bad? every anime fan should have Cagliostro in their collection. I'm shocked you're in this thread but don't even own it.
Go to discotek. Got the Blu Ray from there, and it comes with an awesome slip cover and it was only $20 free shipping for me.
Although I dont believe the soundtrack is actually on the disc itself outside of it being in the movie.

>>138817484
I imagine that the third volume is a bit more in demand since it includes Goemon's introductory chapters.
>>138817551
I remember Goemon being in the first chapter though. Lupin hired him to kill a powerful rival of his. Then he ends up getting killed in the end by being shot with arrows I believe.
