I don't really think it matters though, 3.0 was so horribly bad that a fourth movie doesn't really have much point to it.

They literally haven't even started working on it yet because Anno immediately doesn't give a fuck and Godzilla was a good opportunity for him to put it off even longer. I honestly don't see how he could possibly pull off a satisfying conclusion after 3.0 anyway unless it ends up being like three hours to make up for the lack of almost any character development in 3.0. I remember reading the interview myself some time ago, Anno was joking about the time between movies increasing by one year as it went on.
1.0 -> 2.0 = 2 years
2.0 -> 3.0 = 3 years
3.0 -> 3.0+1.0 = 4 years,
which would mean the next movie would come out this year, 2016, but that seems impossible right now.
