ITT: Once-popular shows that have since fallen off the face of the Earth
I'll start with a few.
Fuck,, I forgot all about this 2007 meme
It's not like shows have popularity longevity anymore, with so much anime being produced these days even the popular ones are just a passing fad, for instance who really gives a shit about Infinite Stratos or Oreimo anymore.
This show. Big time.
The MC for this show is one of the biggest betas too, but it's kind of endearing in a way.
Watching this on 320x240 hardsubbed .avis found on USENET.
Old /a/, ah, the memories.
>Explain the exact process
>I, too, am curious
The main character is a good man cursed with misfortune all his life. He received a gift from the gods, the granting of one wish of his choice, in order to restore karmic balance. He was even told that he is free to wish for untold wealth and he would get with with no catch. Instead, he wished for the goddess to be by his side.
The wish was granted. But something funny happened; later on he was able to deliberately call the wish hotline AGAIN, technically an impossibility. At the time it just seemed like a joke, but in retrospect it is a hint that something is wrong; that the karmic balance is screwed up still, that the MC is still qualified for ANOTHER wish.
In the end if was found that the wish system had an unwritten and unspoken law, stating that true love between a god and a mortal is forbidden. This is enforced by automatically removing the main character's mental capacity to fell lust towards the goddess. This is not told, in fact it is against the rules to tell him. Gods are not suppose to lie, but in this case it seems lying by omission is not just permitted, it is MANDATORY.
After literally years, with the MC never being able to leave and raise a family with some other girl, Belldandy fell in love with him for real and couldn't deal with this anymore.
She orchestrated a farcical incident as an excuse, to bring him to the depth of Hell itself. The only place in the universe where truth is allowed to be told. Where she was able to break his mind conditioning away from the Big Brother that was Heaven. She was too ashamed to tell him what was done to him, so she hoped that it could all be undone quietly and he never had to know her betrayal. But the Queen of Hell was there to spill the beans.
But what did the MC do? He forgave her. Because he is a good man. And a good man is better than gods. A good man is able to forgive the unforgivable, because he isn't an evil SOB god.
Everything's more convenient and easy to find in quality than ever, and I wouldn't give that up, but I miss the challenge of finding things in backwater locations and sitting through week long downloads on the early internet just a little bit.
You know, I was thinking how we still get Madoka threads hourly and maybe not so many CCS treads anym-
>Honestly, that doesn't sound that bad. Hearing everyone talk about without explaining it, it sounded like the BS ending that Rosario Vampire got.
You think mind controlling GOOD MAN as his REWARD, and keeping it a secret from him for literally years, isn't a problem?
And in order to undo the injustice, it could only be achieved by going to the depths of hell, proving that heaven is a piece of shit and the reason why the universe sucks so much?
It's pretty easy to tell that KonoSuba is going to be forgotten in no time, unless it starts getting more seasons. 10 episodes of 'lets put the plot aside to relax' was never a true winner, just a good seasonal anime.
I think shows like Yuri Kuma, Chuunibyo, Date A Live and Yuru Yuri will still be remembered in their own way. Even if a show like Yuri Kuma wasn't popular, many who enjoyed it will remember it.
Manga only. The anime only covers like the first 10 volumes of 48.
I read through the manga a couple months back and posted a thread about it at the time. Even after the discussion there, though, I still think Keiichi got a pretty good deal in the end. He got to live side-by-side with three devine women who brought him fortune, cooked him food, cleaned his home -- he had it made, despite losing all sense of lust. Someone in my thread agreed that they would like that, but made the point that this wasn't communicated to him in the original deal. I still think I wouldn't mind if I had been in that position.
>I still think Keiichi got a pretty good deal in the end.
The System didn't think so. It still think he qualifies for a new wish. What was done to him was immoral and Belldandy knew it. You are missing the point, that he was surrounded people he he thought were his friends, who were forced to lie to him every day by being forbidden to tell him what was done to him without his knowledge. It is treachery, plain and simple.
>I still think I wouldn't mind if I had been in that position.
You can't mind because you wouldn't be allowed to know.
Don't forget that you only get the wish because you EARNED it. This isn't done as a favour to you, this is literally your reward. Are you telling me you have no problem with being brainwashed against your will for your one reward? When you could have infinite wealth instead?
because of the rebuilds
Also why is Kosuke Fujishima so good at drawing sexy girls?
I didn't think of it as brainwashing... they removed his sense of lust. Sometimes that feels like more of a burden to me irl.
That aside, I don't know why it doesn't seem so sinister to me. I thought the Daitenkaicho was a cunt, especially since, to him, Keiichi wasn't good enough straight through to the very end, but I wasn't quite so upset with the girls.
This kept the yurifags occupied for years.
Also, to elaborate, I watched the anime in my teens. My concept of Belldandy at the time was that she was supposed to represent the perfect woman, so I was pretty floored to read the ending and realize she was not only a liar, she was also obsessive about Keiichi. Not even into that trope, but something about cutting Belldandy down a few notches really did it for me.
"Lie by omission" is more like it, although that's not so important to me as the manipulation.
Oreimo lives on through sheer incest salt. I understand no one cares about IS anymore.
>tfw I still remember bad shows like Gravion, Dokkoida, and Magikano
Its engraved in my soul.
>That aside, I don't know why it doesn't seem so sinister to me.
So you are telling me I can fuck with your brain without telling you, and you would have no problem with it?
Are you used to having people fucking with your life on a daily basis? Because that is really the only explanation. That you had to have such a low self esteem that you don't even think your own free will is worth keeping.
>I don't think she lied. Are you the sort of person that define partial disclosure as lying?
SHE thinks she lied. This is why she was ashamed and wanted to undo everything in secret. You can't defend her actions when even Belldandy wouldn't defend herself. She knows what she did was wrong, and that was why she didn't want to face the music.
That's just how the average mindset on /a/, everything must be black and white.
I do think Belldandy did few thing wrong, but she did it because she was bound by rules and the system.
>tfw no one will care about Belldandy's nonsense due to series being undead
Yeah she lied a lot but the MC still wanted her and that's what matter.
Umaru is an avatar of shitposting. It'll take a while for her to be properly forgotten.
I could have literally quoted almost everything here, for the nostalgia I feel. This thread makes me feel old and sad. Glad to see some anons still remember though.
Talk about falling off the face of the earth.
It was how he just blindly accepted everything like absolutely nothing happened. I mean, it's healthy he didn't needed to go Emo about it, but his shock lasted a whole 1 page. He processed that all in one reaction image and it was no longer a problem right up to the Point Mother-in-law and aforementioned Queen of Hell were like 'the Fuck is Wrong with this boy?'
I kind of miss those shows that EVERYONE watched together, like gurren lagaan. That was fucking magical.
Depressingly I find it harder to watch airing shows these days, and just get post season batches.
