The main character is a good man cursed with misfortune all his life. He received a gift from the gods, the granting of one wish of his choice, in order to restore karmic balance. He was even told that he is free to wish for untold wealth and he would get with with no catch. Instead, he wished for the goddess to be by his side.

The wish was granted. But something funny happened; later on he was able to deliberately call the wish hotline AGAIN, technically an impossibility. At the time it just seemed like a joke, but in retrospect it is a hint that something is wrong; that the karmic balance is screwed up still, that the MC is still qualified for ANOTHER wish.

In the end if was found that the wish system had an unwritten and unspoken law, stating that true love between a god and a mortal is forbidden. This is enforced by automatically removing the main character's mental capacity to fell lust towards the goddess. This is not told, in fact it is against the rules to tell him. Gods are not suppose to lie, but in this case it seems lying by omission is not just permitted, it is MANDATORY.

After literally years, with the MC never being able to leave and raise a family with some other girl, Belldandy fell in love with him for real and couldn't deal with this anymore.

She orchestrated a farcical incident as an excuse, to bring him to the depth of Hell itself. The only place in the universe where truth is allowed to be told. Where she was able to break his mind conditioning away from the Big Brother that was Heaven. She was too ashamed to tell him what was done to him, so she hoped that it could all be undone quietly and he never had to know her betrayal. But the Queen of Hell was there to spill the beans.

But what did the MC do? He forgave her. Because he is a good man. And a good man is better than gods. A good man is able to forgive the unforgivable, because he isn't an evil SOB god.

It's pretty easy to tell that KonoSuba is going to be forgotten in no time, unless it starts getting more seasons. 10 episodes of 'lets put the plot aside to relax' was never a true winner, just a good seasonal anime.

I think shows like Yuri Kuma, Chuunibyo, Date A Live and Yuru Yuri will still be remembered in their own way. Even if a show like Yuri Kuma wasn't popular, many who enjoyed it will remember it.
