In Euphomium, the two girls are lesbians and Reina was merely pretending to be straight for sensei. It was also kinda about the band advancing.

In Haruchika, Sherlock Homo really is a gay boy and wants sensei in his cute twink ass. He doesn't want to fuck a kyuuto gaaru, and she just beats him up for being an autistic faggot. It's barely even about the band, it's more about awesome secondary characters in this school.

The LN is not a ripoff, but the anime was made to poke at them. PA works really wants to be the next Kyoani. They even started making high budget anime where nothing happens. This is sort of an open challenge to Hyouka and Euphonium.

This season could have been their golden chance, as Musaigen doesn't sell very well. But even though it doesn't sell well, Haruchika is still a bigger flop. This must be divine punishment, I'm loving it.

I think you're going in with unrealistic expectations. With the setup of band club with mystery solving, it was always pretty clear there wouldn't be that much focus on the music side of things. If you want something seriously about music, you know where to find Hibike! Euphonium.

As for the mystery side of things, "the mysteries are boring" is the same complaint as made of Hyouka. And like with Hyouka, the mysteries are perfectly fine for the setting; elaborate murder of the week is not a good fit for a relatively lighthearted high school setting.
