To me Nekopara felt very dull. It didn't do a good job of getting you invested in the characters which made reading it a chore. They are all cardboard cutouts (especially Chocola and Vanilla) who revolve completely around the cardboard cutout MC. The art and use of emote was decent at least but it couldn't carry the game.

And I'm not saying that Wanko to Kurasou had deep characters or anything, but they were charming in their own way at least until you hit the H-scenes.

I'm not claiming Wanko to be some sort of masterpiece but it has more effort put into the characters and their interactions than Nekopara. It seems like the creators read a generic book of what "moe" is and made Nekopara based on that template.

Nekopara keeps it simple because they know what the readers want: a cute slice-of-life with kemonomimi girls, a healthy dose of moe and a bit of lewd. Nothing more, because it's not the point anyway.
Wanko is shit because the writer doesn't seem to know what he's doing: slice-of-life, drama, a disguised nukige,... And everything sucks.
Look at something like the worldbuilding. Wanko spends a shitload of time on it, and it's cringy as hell. Nekopara has one chapter about the bells and a few lines about catpanions and it's enough to make it a not-too-creepy catgirl setting.

I agree with you in that it was all over the place. Although I found the slice-of-life parts in Wanko to be very good, I guess it's more subjective than anything.

In comparison Nekopara feels too soulless and manufactured. The girls are boring as fuck, the situations are boring as fuck. Thousands of games are following the same template. To me it fails at being moe, the only thing it set out to do.

Not only does it take forever to get to any actual sex scenes, but it's just a terrible time overall getting there.

While I do agree that getting to the H takes a little while, like one and a half hours I must tell you that once you do get to the H it gets boring so fast because at that point you are somewhat invested in the characters and the H just won't stop, like there's around 3 or 4 scenes right after another.

And while I enjoyed Nadeshiko more than (to where i got in) Risa I think it's actually the other way around and Risa's route is the one considered to be the best of the two.
