I don't understand what's the deal with all these KyoAni apologists this season.

I used to be a huge KyoAni fag but there's no way I am going to defend them with that one (i.e. Musaigen). It's fun to watch but it's still kinda "shit", actually I'm more impressed that so many people are going to buy the BDs.
It's also true that KyoAni aren't really trying and have been wasting their potential. They're good at making movies but series-wise they're sinking more and more. I don't get why they stopped adapting VNs. I'm sure Key asked them to do Rewrite and they declined, for what? Pride?

Wow these threads are so shit, why do mods even allow this kind of shit generals to begin with? Not only should you bunch not care about this shit because you're all filthy pirates anyway, but using stalker is stupid because it understimates storefront sales and on top of that Amazon is shit at tracking. And even if the numbers were correct, most of the time it doesn't matter since the adaption boosts the sales of the source material, and sometimes the numbers are bloated by event tickets. Anime was saved this season by having real good shows like Rakugo and Erased but at the same time it was killed by having yet another installment of aniplex bullshit at the top of the list, and then having a shitty battle harem after that, and if that wasn't enough, fucking GuP is in the top 10 right now, fucking kill me. At least based tekyuu is going strong still, that shit's eternal. But still, condoning the usage of sales as a measure of success is what causes studios to stay in their comfort zone and produce fail-safe shows like how they've all been riding the moeshit trend in the past decade.

That's bullshit. The downside of owning the IP is that nobody pays the studio for production costs in advance. So they're already in the red right from the start. Their only hope to recoup is to actually sell that shit, and associated merchandise. But then again, they have to advertise it, and advertisement costs again come from their own pockets. This is why there is so few original anime projects these days, the risk is too high.

Anime is commercial as shit now, it's a big part of the problem with it along with the terrible fanbase that allows things to go on like this with it's bitch and buy philosophy and being focused on just flinging shitposts at each other rather than giving a damn about the state of things. When they're bad they take it as a joke and reason to shitpost, when things are good they take it for granted and shitpost anyway. I can understand the need to make a return on investment but right now it's just motivated by pure greed and profit motive and going after whales be it fujoshi, manchild LN readers, idolfags or whatever demographic will just throw money at something as long as it continues to pump out content regardless of the quality.

I don't see how people can deny that anime as a medium has gone significantly downhill in terms of fresh ideas, variety and generally overall quality and just gotten more and more commercial as the likes of Aniplex and friends have taken over pretty much getting to call the shots on what gets made, what gets popular and what makes money save for a few instances.

I will be shocked if the whole industry isn't under their umbrella entirely by the end of the decade the way things are going and then it'll definitely be dead except as a cash cow for milking established licenses, promoting voice actors who are popular for their looks and personality rather than skills, and promoting the interests of only the biggest producers with the most money which means more music videos in anime and more promoting producers own artists rather than the ones that fit the content. Already it feels like veterans and the people with genuinely good ideas are getting shut out of the decision making process because the current fanbase doesn't care about anything besides visual and moe appeal of the characters and only Aniplex and maybe Bandai Visual really seems to make money directly off of anime anymore. Gordon Gekko would be really proud of the way things are. People will get mad because I'm not just shitposting and not being damn well proud of the fact that things are bad for anime right now but as you say they can pretty well fuck off for what they're worth.

Possibly, I never though I'd look back fondly on the late 2000's and early 2010's but they're looking pretty good these days. No doubt this period is going to look amazing a few years from now if the trend of things going further and further downhill and getting more and more commercial continues. About the only thing I expect to remain consistent is they will still be pumping out SAO, Monogatari and Fate stuff in 2020 along with whatever other light novel or otaku thing takes off between now and then.

Not him but who knows. They are actually making profit for one following that business model. Can't say the same about other studios like Bones, Gonzo or Manglobe that even with publishers backing them up they are/were in red. Maybe they have found their niche, people seem to forget that Chuu2 and Free were actually successful, and they own those franchises too, every single yen made from them are now in KyoAni's pockets.

Their financial for last fiscal year will be released in a few weeks so we'll see how they fared. To me it seems that they have a big cushion in case something goes wrong, like Phantom for example.

All this shitposting about KyoAni going bankrupt is pure delusion, they have a busy schedule until 2018, and if publishing their own LNs wasn't working they would've stopped doing it already.
