Asterisk's side characters were more interesting characters than Stella. Stella wasn't even best girl when Shizuku, who had far better development with a more fun and interesting personality existed. Nene was better too.

If anything, Stella is boring. But the real problem lies in in her shallowness, specifically her relationship with the MC felt is too abrupt and weak. Assertiveness with unfounded interest is simply poor writing.

Julis had a stronger and more believable reasons to partner up with the MC. She warms up to him after her arc, but even by the end of the first season, she is still in the process of progressing to dere as the bond between her and the MC grows throughout the course of the story by which they bond as partners. It doesn't' feel rush or slow, unlike Stella who skipped several steps too fast. She's also cuter and doesn't suffer from awkward transitions since Julis always tries to retain her strong and dignified demeanor, whereas Stella forgets as if she changes like an off and on flip switch.

Rakudai would have been far better if it replaced Stella with that sharktooth bro Ikki fought.

That being said, Rakudai is superior by sheer virtue of not making me fall asleep. Asterisk definitely has the cuter girls though.

Rakudai had better characters, pacing, and better battles. It even had relevant social commentary about the legal system in Japan. Rakudai was far far superior to Asterisk. However Rakudai was only an average show at best. Asterisk was pure fecal matter with almost no redeeming qualities. I am amazed at myself for being able to see most of the series before dropping it.
