Which anime first hooked you into this hobby?
For me, it was Trigun. Specifically, the run they showed the first time on adult swim 12 years ago. Man, I didn't know what I was watching, all I knew was seeing this cool man shooting a sweet .45 caliber pistol against a varying array of madmen, weirdos, and the occasional good looking villain was enough to leave me looking for more. That, and it helped that this was the only anime my little brother liked.
Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040, back when it was airing on TV.
first anime was horror child storys on white VHS´s
they were all cute
until everyone was butaly murderd in gore fashion
otherwhile it was Cobra space adventure
Samurai Pizza Cats, the episode where Polly did some Shinto thing. Broke my brain.
First seasons of Bleach & Death Note.
>Getting hooked by kimi no iru machi
Wow anon I would have left and never looked back if that was one of my first mangos
Rizelmine is the first one I saw, I'm pretty sure.
I watched some pokemon, hamtaro, and medabots when I was a kid but we didn't have cable or even decent over the air service at my house so it was only when I was over at friends.
Hell of a weird one to start on, but it worked.
This one came soon after. Still great.
Watching this now, absolutely amazing series.
Dorothy a best.
And I never looked back.
I think the first anime I really watched was pokemon. I then started watching things like dragon ball and other anime on Toonami so I guess my interest in anime started there. I remember one night I watched the first episode of FMA and the part where Ed loses his leg and they see the product of their failed transmutation really scared me. I wouldn't watch FMA again for probably a few years. My friend introduced me to manga around 6th grade with Buso Renkin and Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning so that's where my interest in manga began.
I had always watched the regular dubbed stuff on TV too, but I think the first anime I watched subbed, while it was airing, was Code Geass. I remember streaming the episodes once a week late at night when they'd come out. I wonder when I stopped streaming anime.
This shit has been a time sink for years taking my years and turning them into memories.
That said, probably Tenchi. It's been years, I remember trading tapes with friends and watching new shows.
High School girlfriendintroduced me to it.
Ichigo Mashimaro, watched as much slice as life anime as i could after that
but nothing could compare, thankfully that show is infinitely rewatchable
10/10 shit anime I'm still mad. I don't know why I continued watching anime after.
I had seen a lot of the shit on Toonami/Adult Swim growing up and even though I really liked some of it and knew of 4chan since like 2006, none of it changed my habits much i.e didn't actively seek it out on my own and hoard it nor consider myself really into anime.
Until one day some guy posted a gif of the LS opening dance and somehow it transfixed me, watched it loop for god knows how long and went to go seek it out.
Used to fucking hate anime and hated everyone that constantly posted little girl reaction images
But just last year after summer I remembered that chink show Avatar I used to watch as a kid and decided to actually watch it, watched all ~60 episodes in like 2 days and actually enjoyed it so I decided to give anime a try since I was bored as fuck.
The first anime I watched was Tokyo Ghoul dubbed no fucking idea why but whenever I thought of anime this always came to my head, I actually enjoyed it although the monotonous voice acting got to me and I decided to watch my 2nd anime which was Shokugeki no Souma which i really fucking enjoyed, since then I've watched a shit ton of anime and wish I never started because I cant find anything good anymore and don't want to watch the little girl shit like madoka. I seriously cant understand how anyone could watch that steaming pile of shit it actually infuriates me.
Stop lying /a/ I guarantee at least ninety percent of the posters in this room started with Inuyasha and are making up stories.
Looking back at this, I can't believe I didn't see the signs.
Lucky Star, pls don't judge me.
I had seen Pokémon and Dragonball Z like everyone else but I didn't even have a clue what anime was or where it came from.
Through internet forums and youtube I got into this whole business.
Sometimes I wish I didn't.
My introduction to anime. Also my introduction to yuri. Still hooked on both.
While it wasn't my first, SAO was what got me into anime as a hobby.
It's a toss up among Yaiba, Ranma and Dragonball (not Z).
Before those I was a fan of X-men, Power Rangers, Voltron and Biker Mice from Mars so I was inevitably going to shift into liking anime anyway.
still my alltime favorite
I think it was Dragonball's manga when I was like 7 or something, but it could also be either Pokemon or Doraemon.
I read the fight against Frieza in manga first, and holy shit it blew the fuck out of me.
Pokemon as a kid, the American dub of Ghost Stories as a redditor
I used to watch anime back a long time ago but it was mostly battle shounen shit like Bleach, Inuyasha and DBZ.
Then I had a period lasting from the end of middle school to the end of high school where I thought anime was fuckin' STUPID and tried to get away from it as much as possible.
And then this little cutie finally brought me back into it after my opinion on the medium mellowed out a bit.
As a very young kid I watched Dragin Ball Z but I didn't really "get" it. I just watched for the action and yelling, even though I had no idea what they were yelling about.
Death Note got me into anime in general and Toaru Majutsu no Index (and it's spin offs) got me into keeping up with anime source material
I got french vhs with a few cobra episodes and then it starts
Along with Zenki, Daimos, Voltes V, Yuyu Hakusho, Vision of Escaflowne and BTX
I Watched death note out of curiosity. After that I really didn't watch any more anime until I stumbled upon monster, baccano and neon genesis evangelion. After that, watching anime became an hobby.
this fucking thing that people won't stop shitposting with
watched code geass before though but that was kind of a one off thing that didn't go anyway
I think Code Geass is what got me hooked on anime and JoJo for manga
Boku No Pico was the first show I watched.
But not counting that, NonNon Biyori
for me id say it was dragonball/dbz, inuyasha, ruroni kenshin mmm prob digimon and everything techTV showed on anime unleashed but i prob had several anime under my belt already by then. cowboy bebop and the anime that i fell in love with was wolfs rain. it was great. that, code geass, eurika7, heat guy j, gundam wing and big o. dang guess iv always loved anime. also i remember renting some anime vhs's real young like ninja scroll and something called utopia or something similar. theres been so many over the years i cant even begin to list them all
I've been interested in anime and manga for ages, but never actually tried to seek the hobby, since I'm a lazy piece of shit. Doesn't help that my country doesn't have Toonami and the only channel dedicated to anime died years ago, otherwise things would be different.
In short, I started with Madoka
