Utean best grill confirmed by scientists of harvard
Objectively incorrect opinions.
As if you wouldn't fuck Akio given half a chance.
Utena > Juri > ... > Nanami
> Juri is a good grill, but she's too old
> Nanami is annoying af
Utena again confirmed for best girl
>People constantly talking about a remake/sequel someday
>They forget/don't care that Utena's VA died
Fuck that. Tomoko Kawakami will always be the only voice for her.
five cute facts about Utena:
> she's a girl
> she's a salmon
> i love her!!
Can you believe that faggot dumped pic related?
This anime is so surreal, remember this shit?
What are other animes like utena? Is Sailor moon worth watching?
I would love some kind of Dating Sim/Visual Novel or maybe even a cameal on some other thing, like if there ever is a Mahou Shoujo version of Super Robot Wars I would love to see her in it.
>Is Sailor Moon worth watching?
Yes. Don't expect it to be just like Utena, but if you want some good sol with a surprisingly decent story mixed in with Ikuhara's directing style, you hopefully will like it.
>Is Sailor Moon worth watching?
Well, I may be a hopeless Ikuharafag but
Sailor Moon and Utena are my two favourite series by an enormous margin and I have resigned myself to never finding anything that will fill those voids.
>Did I just watch a dude ghost ride the whip sideways?
>tfw feeling bad for Saionji
I just can't hate him. He's like a sad runt puppy.
Lesbian magic ≠ gay magic
For example, gay magic has zero probability of making lilies appear out of nowhere, while lesbian magic has 50% roses/50% lilies. They both produces sparkles and bubbles though. Lesbian magic is also able to make on partner pregnant with a cute little girl. Their best users can focus its energy to create powerful, most of the time pink, beams that destroy everything het and turn girls gay.
>during the climax
>the shadow girls scan a salad
Someone post that pic comparing the ending of utena and 2.22
>Look at the comments out of boredom
>This is what made me think these aren't real. These "duels" are internal emotional battles within oneself propelling through challenges in life to maturity.
I should have known better than to look.
It's both, you dumbass. That's like saying Utena doesn't really turn into a car.
Utena: A coherent and interesting story with a great depth of complex symbolism.
Penguindrum: A story overloaded with symbolism to the detriment of the narrative.
Yurikuma: A simple, well done story with simple, well done symbolism.
Penguindrum isn't bad, but it bit off more than it could chew. I like Yurikuma better because it didn't overreach itself.
I'd recommend reading or watching Night on the Galactic Railroad, will help Penguindrum to make a bit more sense.
"After the Quake" also helps, but isn't mandatory.
And pay attention to the subway scenes, they are Penguindrum's version of Utena's shadow plays.
Penguindrum's biggest problem was that Ikuhara redid the story and theme after the earthquake, since he felt it was pretentious shit and that the aftermath made him realize what was really important in life.
It either needed more time in the planning stages, or more episodes like Utena had (but that's nearly impossible in the modern industry.)
I didn't know that, actually. Is there an interview or something where he talks about that? Would love to read it if you know of one.
Penguindrum has a lot of imagery and symbolism related to Galactic Railroad. One plot element specifically doesn't make very much sense unless you are aware of the connection.
Utena's too cute and pure to fuck, even if Akio already hit her. She is for cuddling and holding hands with.
They probably played doctor when they were little. Miki probably either doesn't remember, or he glazes over it in his rose-tinted nostalgia goggles when he thinks about the good old days.
Kozue probably remembers it well. It might have been part of what drove her to become a slut/yandere.
Those two episodes were my favourite in the show. I loved the onion prince as a character, too. His black rose interview in the elevator or whatever that thing is was brilliant.
I wouldn't say I like him as a person (abusive, broke Wakaba's heart), but I feel for his cause. Always stuck in Touga's shadow, his only friend being dishonest and doesn't care for him, looking for "something eternal" in the form of lasting companionship, etc. He's not a nice person but I think he's sympathetic.
No, I think I accidentally self-inserted as him. He was a nice smart kid who was about to be corrupted while his 13 year old sister was getting fucked by the principal who was twice her age right in front of him in a self-driving car going faster and faster as she also gave off incestuous vibes.
He died didn't he? Mind refreshing my memory on him, he was in love with Juri?
>Ruka is in the school
>dies for real
>Utena is in the school
>doesn't die for real
I literally don't get it. It's been like ten years and it still bothers me.
Also making Utena just want to be a normal girl deep down was pretty lame.
He was interesting.
>realizes the nature of the school
>comes back to try to save his waifu even though he knows it probably won't work
>doesn't matter, has to try anyway
>warns her one last time before leaving
He wasn't really obsessed with her. He had gone full Buddha in leaving the school, knowing that leaving that state of arrested development would kill him.
He had already let go, he had to have to have left in the first place.
it's complicated but a run down version is
>ruka is in love with juri
>juri is in love with shiori
>shiori is cunt to juri because she is the embodiment of BPD
>ruka doesn't like his waifu being treated like shit
>ruka cucks juri to make her jealous
>ruka and shiori ride in akios car
>they lose the duel but ruka expected this to happen
>ruka tells shiori the truth that he was just using her
>juri doesn't like her waifu being treated like shit
>challenges ruka to a duel
>she now has to ride akio's car with ruka
>juri forfeits the duel when her pendent is destroyed
>ruka leaves the school again or died, either way this means he manned up since the school represents immaturity, good job ruka
Was there a character in Utena that finished the show as a virgin?
Background characters like the 3 faggots dont count
That's pretty much the point, it's really easy to hate him, like a dimwitted reactionary. It takes courage and reflection to realize he's a complex, sympathetic character without necessarily having to turn into a "good guy" (this isn't your dragon ball, after all).
No, I just kept rooting for Miki because he seemed like a genuinely good kid. He ended up being the most relatable character to me, so when all that stuff ended up happening to him, I wanted to get the fuck out of that car and scrub down my heart and mind.
And I'm pretty sure she was 13. Utena is in her second year of middle school, which makes her 14, and Miki and Kozue were a year younger.
I always thought that depending on the situation, if it was 3 characters it was just the two relevant ones fucking and Akio was just influencing them or something like that. My memories are a bit vague though and I like to think he had a threesome with Saionji and Touga.
I'm just really confused on how the car made some characters rekindle their motivation to duel. Saionji and Touga were pretty obvious, their motivations were stated right on your face, I can see nanami somehow because Touga was there. But Juri and Miki just arent clear for me. Mainly Juri because Miki loves anthy and all that.
Basically what >>138618700 said, Akio represents a stunted, adolescent view of what adulthood is and symbolizes the use of newly-discovered sexuality or mind games as they struggle to define their own personalities and gain psychological dominance over the others without really understanding their motivations behind it or the responsibility adulthood entails. Like everything in the series he is both real and not real, everything is a metaphor, etc etc. It's all a deeply layered onion.
I'll probably never understand the car scenes but I think I remember someone saying that the ones in the front row are fucking and not the ones in the back or something like that. So for instance Ruka got fucked by Akio while Juri was watching, same with Miki?
Wow you sound like the English teacher who thinks that in Old Man and The Sea, the old man's boat color's is blue symbolizes freedom etc etc.. and discussing this issue for 2 hours
Tell me about this Harvard Scientist
What else they discovered?
Mfw when I found out that her va died, but Never heard any of her performances
He died. A-ko and B-ko explicitly comment on it next to Juri.
shadow: Hey, do you know?
shadow: That patient died yesterday.
shadow: He was such a babe too! What a shame.
shadow: And after he kept saying he wanted to fence again after leaving the hospital.
shadow: It seems he knew how sick he was. But he forced his way out of the hospital anyway and went back to school.
shadow: I bet there's somebody he loved in the Fencing Club.
shadow: Come to think of it, he was always saying:
shadow: "I want to give the Power of Miracles to the one I love. I want to free her."
shadow: What's that supposed to mean, I wonder?
shadow: Who knows...
