I remember when I was an anime-only watcher, I was enticed by how much better people said the novels became, but now, all of the good characters people hyped are irrelevant and have been for years now. Itsuwa, Acqua, Lessar, Hamazura, Gunha, even Accelerator's been on the back burner for years.

Gunha was always irrelevant, though. I can understand letting characters like Acqua get sidelined to make way for new characters, since him and a couple others have their stories finished.

But shit like >>138614990 is annoying, along with accelerator and hamazura being relegated to making pointless cameos like in NT3, NT7, and NT12 despite lots of room for stories of their own. The focus on touma isn't bad at all but NT just doesn't have the same factor volumes 14-22 did.

Come to think of it, kumokawa who had a big role in SS2 still hasn't gotten a focus yet either. Hers will probably come sooner since she has that mysterious connection to touma.

When New Testament was starting up, I thought that most of the characters involved in World War III would continue showing up and contributing to the plot, instead Kamachi introduced new characters that he would discard in favor of more new characters. I've lost hope that old supporting characters like the Amakusa or GROUP will ever do anything again. Newer characters fare even worse because they didn't have twenty volumes of occasional screen time like Stiyl did. Maria, who was essentially the star of her own volume, has zero importance and I had forgotten she existed.

They might come up again, but WWIII was really the culmination of lots of plot threads. NT looked liked it was building in one direction with Othinus but after NT 10 it seems to be starting something else with Magic Gods, the city's past, or other. Stiyl I bet will show up again in a bigger role while the others will show up but who knows if it will just be a brief throwaway appearance.

I do, it's my #2 ship at the moment. It's cute and fun, but I don't ship it seriously since I know Kamachi won't have Touma end up with anyone, so all ships are done to enjoy cute interactions and teasing, but not something to take seriously.

Kamachi never puts any other male characters into her life, so he's sort of written himself into a corner in that respect. There are characters she has potential chemistry with, but we'll never know because new characters are more important than developing established ones in Kamachi's world.
