I liked chaika more with the harem stuff than I would have without it and it was basically a fantasy series with unnecessary harem shit

Trying to write their own stories and a reliance on adapting from manga.

Imagine how few people in the world can write an engaging and thought provoking story. Now imagine how few of those rare people just happen to be working in the anime industry. On the manga side you run into the same problem, how many world class writers just happen to know how to draw as well?

I tried reading that and it was boring as fuck.
I imagine anime writers probably got bored when they tried reading that garbage too, so they can't even adapt it because they keep falling asleep.

Seriously though, they're good reads if you want to know stuff and seem smart or cultured or whatever, but in terms of entertainment, anime beats it hands down.

There are are too many writers who have very little real world experience outside of anime and manga. They frequently struggle with exploring issues outside of their own one-sided views.

My main complaint is probably the lack of innovation.

My biggest issus is the western online community constantly throwing hissy fits and crying about evil otaku because they aren't being pandered too, even going as far as to say anime they don't like being made means the industry dying despite the fact that most of them have never supported the industry in their lives

Apart from a few productions, most of the anime Americans and other countries got were the things networks and distributors were able to buy for cheap at the time. Things like Outlaw Star are little more than cult hits in Japanese markets and it was because these works under-performed that Americans were able to get them. And the works of directors like Shinchiro Watanabe do better with Western audiences than Japanese ones, to the point that Space Dandy premiered in the USA before it premiered in Japan. A lot of the stuff brought in by US Manga Corps. were bottom of the barrel by Japanese standards but often did appeal to Western sensibilities.
