I don't know any of that but imagine your producer goes out to find funding on this project you have been trying to advance for years. The companies all say yeah it is great and all but I just want you to change these things about it to make it make money. You might be tempted to say fuck it we will keep looking for other willing funders rather than compromise the vision of this project or you might agree to changes then have to rework the whole thing to incorporate them. Just having that shit done doesn't really mean all that much.

I hope it does eventually come about. Everything influenced by Konaka and Abe have been among my favorites. A shame about Nakamura... the same happened with Kon as well.

Haven't really watched anime in quite a while. I finally watched Millennium Actress the other day, and my interest was renewed. I hate to be "that guy", but anime seems to have declined greatly since the advent of more fully digital workflows. Could be times simply changed and different people became prominent, I'm not sure.

No that is not really it, the perception is just the product of fallacious reasoning. Consider that when you look at modern anime you see 40+ shows a season and can't see many you would watch, it looks like most modern anime is shit. Now when you go back for example and look at the season lain was released in or hell even the whole year (see chart) there will be just as little that actually interests you. The only reason you perceive it as such is that nobody ever bothers to subtitle or talk about the older shows that were shit and forgotten. Maybe trying to watch Yuasa's stuff like Kaiba might interest you? It is a very different take on the whole cyberpunkn thing and highly creative.

I'm aware retrospectively it'll appear there was more signal than noise, but when I try to watch anything current it seems like I can't find anything -but- noise. Whether I watch what seems popular, or what no one cares about, it might be interesting and kind of neat, and whatnot, but the spark just isn't there. Broken down more mechanistically, it's because certain combinations of elements just aren't present.

I think about it like 50's television, and movies. If you look around, it no longer exists. The style, the vibe, the content. It's done. It's over, it's gone. Same with any other era, change is a smooth gradient, but eventually you can see that "it" ended, even though the rough content and themes humans create at their core tend to stay somewhat static. I kind of hoped Despera might be a last glint of that general "thing".

In my case it's possible I changed, I don't think that's really what happened. In another 5 years I'll probably put my hypothesis to the test, see if I can find things I couldn't find before.

The guy interviewing has misinterpreted ABe entirely and likewise Konaka has no knowledge of an anime being made because there probably isn't one being made currently. My point is that if your screenwriter is taken aback at the suggestion that work has resumed, and this was like nine months after ABe said publicly that he'd already found a director, that mention of a director being found doesn't seem like a very important sign that anything's going to get made. Especially with Konaka working on another project that also has had a suspicious silence now, and the way he's been talking like he's completely out of things, I think it's more probable that there's no real motion right now toward it being produced and that it's about as likely to happen as it was when Nakamura was sick, which is not very.

No I think you have a valid point none the less, some aesthetics just resonate with some people more so than others. The late 90s and early 2000s had a specific aesthetic in anime that attracts some people and that has by and large gone. Here is a chart I made for more recent anime. I think you should definitely be able to find some appeal in things on there like Princess Tutu (much more than a simple little girls show so don't dismiss is based on appearances), Dennou Coil (Especially this similar to lain in many ways and very well made), Mononoke, Kaiba, Casshern Sins, Tatami Galaxy, Mawaru Penguindrum, Ping Pong the Animation and possibly Space Dandy. If you are interested in knowing more about the industry and how it works and how anime is made you might even want to try Shirobako which is nothing like what you are talking about but is one of the better shows of more recent years.

I have been saying continuously that having a director doesn't mean anything will get made but it means a hell of a lot more than silence because you know there are at least some people trying to get it made rather than it being given up on with Nakamura's death. I had to start reading the books n shit. Show is almost completely spot-on to the original light novels, though, so its chill. Writing is pretty good, especially the dialogue, which is some of the best I've ever read.

I'll never understand why all modern browsers have pressing backspace when no field is in focus tied to "back". Why would anyone ever use this when they have a mouse? I can't count the number of times I've accidentally pressed tab and then noticed an error and then bam, it's all gone. Absolutely hate it, and to my knowledge it can't be disabled.

I've got a lot of more or less complete and meticulously planned out stories that would make good anime, or video games. Those'll probably never exist either though. I'd like to try to condense it into a viable script and screenplay, for the hell of it.

I wish I could write worth a damn. I have a few ideas for SCPs to submit but either I can't get the inspiration to get started or what I write comes across as chuuni fanfic shit.

My biggest problem is that I can generate a full story, pictures, all its details etc in my head, and begin to start to really piece it together. But when it comes to actually try to put it down as language, and figure how to present those details, it comes across clumsy, overly verbose, or just jumps around and seems hacked together.

The only solution I've ever found was to just not think about the concept of a reader while avoiding and controlling for an assumption that every reader is me. Then I skim through it and ask myself if it says what I think it should, and iterate from there.

To me the discomfort stems from putting myself in a hypothetical reader's head when I'm actually writing. I wouldn't by any means say I'm a "good" writer though. It either reads like a dream, or contains absolutely nothing internally personal about any of the characters (ie the reader is more or less an observer and the only shift in perspective is the setting, it never says what another character thinks or believes). Best approach is to just try writing sometime, and ignore any frustration, lack of drive, or urge to stop. Maybe you'll improve and it'll get easier than you expect.
