The biggest detriment to this board was actually crunchyroll and the demise of sub groups.now you have shitposting galore and the elitist cartel who thinks it owns /a/.

it is a meme. Many people do not believe anime is good and that it is only good for cute girls doing cute things and that everything else is basically pointless. Writing, animation, music, nothing matters so long as there are some cuties and you're dumb if you think otherwise, go read a book or watch a movie if you want quality

It's a super duper ultra fantastically jecht shot mark three toxic mindset

Something we are not allowed to have anymore because people call it off topic.

We used to have fun and share our lives a bit.

Now it is just "Go back to Reddit!" "Go back to /b/!" "Not your blog!" and such. Everyone here has to feel superior by policing and telling everyone else how to act and masking it under the guise of quality control.

My first favorite memory of /a/ was powerlevel threads where people shared funny stories of having there power-levels exposed. Now and the shitters would scream "BLOGGING" instead of just staying out of threads they don't like,

>Think that the "I come here to shitpost" mentality is/was anything more than a tongue-in-cheek joke
>Think that /a/ "hates anime"

No odd scene or frame or scenario has taken the board by storm since like 2012. Or what, is a handful of different thread openers to talk about a girl like "x a y" or "pretty good for a nine year old" original content? Elf rape is original content? There's nothing new and that's partially due to generals keeping everything in their own little corners

The /a/ I loved is the one where it was a lot of meta yet still anime related shitposting that coexisted as a minority together with normal threads

People used to make great OC whether it be in the form of images, videos, or just writing.

The /a/ today is just a huge cesspit of trash made up of reposts.

Newfags don't lurk.

Less new newfags spoonfeed and cultivate an environment that promotes blogshitting. Yes, there was the occasionally post where Anons referred to an event that occured in 3D but it was usually related to the topic or purposely unrelated but they definitely weren't in the tier of posts like "So me and my gf were watching anime lol and so and so happened".

Oldfags have largely died out or the few still here are bitter like me and just try to contribute as much as we can but tend to just go with the flow because there's no stopping this downward spiral /a/ is going in due to such a large population of newfags who bring their baggage from other websites like reddit and tumblr.

I'd like to see what would happen if /a/ had the robot filter that /r9k/ has. Even if people try to get around the filter...it will still be more original than what's being done right now.

So what's /a/ made that unifies everyone together as buddies? There any how to kill the BETA threads or swordcutting gifs or even something as simple as photoshopping silly things? Chaika was the closest thing to the last one and even as popular as it was there's hardly anything you can do with her face

The popular in-jokes and OC are all old. They're still used, but nothing new is made and spread around for everyone to connect to. /a/ doesn't discuss SHIT when over half of the threads at any given time are 1)inbred generals or 2)fetishes or what would you do with a given anime girl. It outnumbers most threads that pose a specific topic to promote discussion, you cannot say that /a/ likes to discuss with all the stale recycled threads. Don't post anything about how 'OC' would be recycled either, because IDEALLY it has a period of popularity and use, then dies without coming in day in day out for months the way half the threads on /a/ do

Original content is not the devil you halfwit.
I very much like your notion of an elitist board where you can discuss anime seriously so there shouldn't be any light jokes or popular images on an imageboard, however /a/ is far too ill informed about the medium as a whole and spends far too much time speaking about how they want to fuck anime girls constantly for me to take that elitism about discussion seriously

Whenever people reflect on the past by posting caps of threads about the good ol days, most of it is about original content, you know that right?

Honestly what /a/ needs are less generals and more spread content. Its hard to find threads for even moderately popular current airing shows, even Un-go with its 5 fans had more discussion then the last season had for half its shows.

Generals destroy discussion, I'd rather see 20 yu-gi-oh threads on front page all discussing different topics then a general. Even if you hate a series there are usually aspects worth reading about, now its impossible to find those topics as every thread that is outside the general = deleted and every topic in the general is "First for x", "Hey guys check my sic oc" and "X for best girl". Usually posted by the same people.

Original content is made all the time on /a/. We just don't then spam the entire board with it. People like it, go "yeah that's cool", save it, and then maybe reference it every so often. After anon did his masturbation video, everyone didn't then go out and make a new one, because it had already been done. I'm not sure what exactly what you're expecting.
I do agree that some threads on /a/ could do with being purged, mainly along the line of generals and constant waifu threads, but for the most part if you're watching an anime on /a/, the threads will be filled with discussion and OC, unless you're in the shit threads for the season (see Rakudai and One Punch Man last season). At the moment we're also in between seasons, so there's not a whole lot going on as well, and it'll just be some rehashed threads and shitty generals until shit starts airing again, but that's the nature of anime and the board, and some pretty fun shit can happen too, like at the moment some anons are having fun naming cats after anime tropes in >>135645990. I doubt we'll ever see that picture posted again on /a/ after that thread, but it's fun and naming cats after anime cliches is what binds us together as anons.
The fact that content anons make isn't constantly spammed helps keep newfags out who think they know everything and can join in because they've seen the hot new meme spammed a few times on the front page.

>>
>>135646744
General threads for currently airing anime is fine, there's no point making several threads when a new episode has just come out, unless it's a massive shitstorm. The problem is when these generals persist past their time of the season, since at that point they are pointless. If there aren't new episodes coming out during the week, and there isn't a manga or LN chapter, then there's nothing to say that hasn't been said it becomes the usual blogging and circlejerking and refusal to let the threads die. At that point they should move onto to /vng/ if they want to continue that shit.

The solution is actually really obvious, just flat ban every single general and enforce it as well as they did the Naruto threads. Do that and it will solve most of the problems, honestly its only like 50-100 people keeping most of the generals alive anyway.
>>
>>135646897
Not all general like that bro. When the fame ending and people generally forget about it, the general will died. This true for seasonal anime.

If they persist we actually recommend them move to /vg/ instead like idolmaster and love live.

The reason with precure, aikatsu and kancolle still there because they have new things to discuss. Even that it not the thread up everyday.

Same like Saki we only open new thread when new thing coming. The reason we put there Tanoshii in title so ppl can search quickly.

Of course if stupid OP start with "lalala edition" of course we mad and sage or delete the thread.

You need to start speaking English, because that physically hurt. And I don't mean the abbreviations, I mean your fucking grammar. Digimon is already dead because they saw how dumbass they were. Kancolle has nothing to discuss all the time, they talk about the game still. Which is not /a/ related. I don't even know why it's on /a/ because it didn't start as an anime.

At this point it would be preferable. I used to hate the idea because it seemed like it put us on the level on /v/ but there is not really any actual reason not to have it.

All the newfags would just make Dragonball, Naruto, Jojo, etc. threads on there, relieving us of the newfag issue. I feel like the reason that the mods haven't killed off the generals in the past months they've sprouted up is because an Anime/General board is their final solution and don't want to delete them until it's time for them to migrate.

Oh boy and they keep telling me this place hasn't changed.

The general thread is an affront to /a/'s itself, at least its seasonal incarnation that it's spent the vast majority of its life as. The minute you've got longterm threads about shit that's not even airing it's over. The /a/ that follows current shows is gone. You've permanently balkanized the community along the general's lines instead of the shuffle that occurs every new season.

The biggest issue with making /ag/ is the retards who aren't going to allow anything that has a general over there to be discussed on /a/.
Something I can think of happening if /ag/ was made is Jojo threads not being allowed at all, even if there is something airing or discussing a new chapter in the manga. While I don't want /a/ to be a bunch of generals a split wouldn't improve the quality of the board.

>>
>>135647672
Newfags are a naturally part of the lifecycle of this board. As long as they lurk and don't immediately post, there's nothing wrong with them.
>>
>>135647600
You don't see how this isn't a problem? If all people want to do is post circlejerks in generals they should make a subreddit for it. Having constantly bumped generals that are just pictures or namefags pushes other content off the board. It segregates the community further into their special little threads. A "general" might as well be a separate board which is just for that topic.
>>

Newfags who aren't cancer don't get called new. They spend the time to not bring the quality of the discussion down because they care about it.

Threads lasting several days only happen because they're either generals or a few people keep bumping it back to the front page even though the thread itself isn't popular enough to hit the bump limit.

No this is well and truly it.
As bad as /v/ got before general threads it was still a relatively contiguous community. Once people start retreating to circlejerks that goes out the window.
It's simple evolution, isolated populations in differing environments selecting for differing traits.
>>
>>135648072
That really depends on the tenacity of its circlejerks.

Currently, it's obvious that a Phantom World fan is trying to have a constant discussion going on for that topic, bumping any such thread from being archived, or immediately making a new thread with the same picture showing that blond athletic girl doing her stretching exercises.

Its not the quality of the shows. They have always been the same, usually a couple of moe, battleharem, ln/manga adaptions, mecha or two and then the popular stuff. It doesn't matter how much good quality you create if you also choose to permit shit. If someone shits on your casserole, the answer isn't 'just add more casserole to it.'

This whole 'naw man it's fine, just let them do their things over there and I'll do my thing over here" is exactly the way of thinking that turns a board into a subdivided reddit-wannabe full of generals.

If you don't like something, then you complain, you shitpost about it, you spam, you argue, you stir a shitstorm, make insulting and demeaning OC and cause a ruckus. You make contact with and communicate with others whom you disagree with and do not share your opinions. comfy is the most despicable buzzword I've heard since 'edgy'. It means absolutely nothing except "thing I like which is in contention, but should be beyond criticism because I like it"

Your threads aren't comfy, their shit. You find comfort in them because they're shit like you and you'd wallow in that shit and your shit in an utterly dead thread, bumped from page 10 repeatedly for 500 posts, across 24 hours and then remade again, and again, and again 7 days a week. You'd sit in that dead filth listening to your own echoing voice and ignore the board around you until there is no board around you, and just a 10 page catalog of similar echochambers, each self-contained and still as the grave.

Because that's what your comfy amounts to. Shit. Dead shit.

The catalog ruined 4chan.
Before it existed, you had to actually lurk to know what threads were going on. And you had to understand how 4chan worked, e.g. when it normally redirected you to the first page after a post.
Now you just select your general and ignore everything else, just like on normal forums/reddit

And any time you point that out to them they just hide behind their "you're just mad because you're a normalfag and you've been brainwashed to think pedophilia is wrong! even though i'm not a pedophile by the way" excuse. >>
>>135649288
Or more in line with history, we make a ruckus until the mods are forced to pick a side and make something happen. Cleaning a spammer or 2 out of a general is much easier than tackling the problem of generals. That's why the problem is left to persist, because it's more work removing generals than removing the people attacking them.

And that status quo will remain until, as has happened in the past, a shitstorm erupts so large that the mods can't ignore it, and that makes dealing with the big problem of generals easier than dealing with everyone else.

>>135650274
It might be, but such threads should still be outright banned, together with the OP who made them.
>>
The main reason generals haven't been gotten rid of is that the individual threads are still technically board-related material. Even if we were to say SnK "generals" were not to be posted on /a/ anymore, that wouldn't prevent any of the SnK fanbase from creating their long-lived threads and pretending that they're not generals in all but name. SnK is still an anime/manga after all, and unless /a/'s rules were bent over backwards to say discussion of such and such shows aren't allowed, there's no effective way to contain it under the board's current rules.

If people are complaining that there's too much blogging or offtopic posts in the threads of whatever show they dislike, then under /a/'s current rules, it's those offending posts that need to be removed and not the entire thread itself. Face it, the userbase of /a/ is just so big these days that there will be a sizable number of fans at all times to create and discuss those shows often linked with generals.

>>135650414
Their 'generals' are practically dead. People stopped making so much tumblr art and the story sort of went to some pretty questionable places. After never visiting the threads, I found that they were just X-fag shitposting instead of the series. The 24/7 nature has also since died. But the damage it did, "It's fine if SnK has one up" for instance is real. Before, people used to tell fujoshi to actually fuck off, now not so much. And to be honest, fujoshi has been a major destroyer of threads for good shows. Not newfags, not crossboarders. They particularly like their image dumps.
>>
>>135647349
I wouldn't hate most of /a/ so much if their elite taste didn't involve so much harems, SOL, moe, or self-insert-fantasy LN-inspired garbage.
>>
>>135650518
There are other boards those threads can go on, and those boards are really slow and could use the traffic. I have nothing against them staying here but they would fit in better on some of the other boards here.

I rarely see that. The anger isn't about liking things, it's about not respecting the culture.

If anything, the pre-2011 fags are worse with that, because they're used to crusading against Naruto and shit.
>>
There are so called 'anime elitists' who don't even know who Yutapon or Matsumoto are.
>>
>>135650594
Changes like that are hard to make, and when in doubt it's usually best to just keeps the same. When you move threads to another board, userbases change. In some cases you may as well be moving them to /trash/ because the board they could be on is either slow as fuck and has no interest in posting in the general that got moved, or is so bad that the general will just be destroyed by shitposting.

The other boards of 4chan aren't any better. I got banned from /co/ for apparently discriminating against transsexuals simply because I stated wouldn't dating date any of them and posted how I felt about their plight. I also got banned from browsing /tg/ for racist remarks, even though racist slurs is pretty much a common thing in 4chan. I wasn't even directing the slur against anyone in particular.
>>
>>135650670
I was actually hoping a few fags could get together to scanlate the manga, but hey, this is what we got instead. Fucking awful. I was actually looking forward to the show, and I never actually watched it.
>>
>>135650414
The 'brilliant new rule' should simply be common sense.
You don't need a rule to strictly outline what is and isn't a true general. The moderators SHOULD be able to tell them apart and have the good judgement to recognize what is and isn't a general, recognize that a general is, fundamentally, a low-quality thread, and have the independence to act accordingly.

If they can't do those things, why are they even mods?

It's not like the distinction is a difficult one to make, especially for someone that spends any amount of time browsing /a/ and keeping up with /a/-related content.

If anything, the actual series that have devolved into these generals stand to gain from being harrowed by the moderators for a bit. At least that will encourage the existing fanbases to try and actually talk about their series and keep their threads as distinct from a general as possible.

What /a/ needs isn't more rules, it's for you folk to get off your ass and practice some common sense. You can see that general threads are of a low quality, but for whatever reason are too afraid to evenly evenly enforce global 3 on any large fanbase with regular threads.

You and I both know that if you deleted all of the blogging, off-topic, tumblr art reposts, and cult of personality shitposting, you'd be left with an empty general and about 2 dozen regular posters hurriedly ban evading so they can post it all again. There's nothing worth saving -most of those generals are long-dead fanbases that stake claim to a 24/7 thread by a dozen or so autistic posters. Pull them out by the roots so they can finally die and move on, like they should have a year or more ago.

The rest need turned on their head because if there is any decent discussion to be had, then the posters willing to have it need to know that the mods will take action and support the quality of discussion that they would like to have, instead of being drown out amidst the offtopic shit, blogging and vacuous circlejerks
>>
>>135650672
There's just no getting through to you people.

Rephrasing it to "Stop liking what I like or you're not respecting the culture" is no fucking different. You can use any number of different phrases but none of them will ever change the simple fact of getting angry at people for liking something different and then trying to justify your anger by pretending you're just fighting for some kind of greater inherently good cause.

It's completely different though, it's one of the things that separates /a/ and /v/. You should fuck off since you have no idea what you're saying. Coming into /a/ and spamming memes from other boards or making rec threads isn't "liking something different".
>>
>>135650875
The most blatantly untrue post of the thread.
>>
>>135650790
Why can't you understand that by dismissing everything as "You don't like this? Oh you must just want everything your way" You are literally saying you want to just let everything get posted? Whats wrong with letting rec threads or allowing dubs post in that case I mean if you don't like them ignore them. What about 3d image dumps? Ignore them if you don't like them.

What happens if you just let everything go, you get /b/. Ignoring things you don't like results in it happening more and more because the new posters come in and copy the old ones. Eventually /a/ wouldn't even be about anime anymore it would become something closer to tumblr if everything was just left unchecked.

You didn't get it. Shitting the outsiders it's the good thing to do when it's obvious that they're not /a/nons (rec threads, memes from other boards, etc). But there are a lot of people that everytime that someone says something that they don't like in x thread start to complain and shitting the discussion and mood or trying to ban all the off-topic random threads about some character or anime/manga stuff. This is the attitude of the modern /a/.
>>
>>135648386
I been banned sometimes already, but the only one I think it was unjustified was the time I post some h-manga crop, it showed an old guy mating with a loli, but there wasn't anything "wrong" in the pic, the fun thing is that in that same thread, there were other images of the same nature, but only mine got banned, though none should have been, since as long it doesn't show nipples/genitalia it would be ok to post, as accorded during the nipplemod thingy.

The ones doing that aren't /a/nons either, and they get treated the same way. I also see the behavior you're talking about only occasionally. Most of the time posters are pretty tolerant of taste and shows, as long as it's not shit like hailing Bebop as the greatest anime ever or stuff like that.

When you realize 4chan doesnt have join dates and the only thing that matters is the quality of your post
>>
>>135652487
That depends.
Write out an extensive list of every single opinion you have on everything, and if I see anything that doesn't conform to my opinions, then you're a newfag. And also from /v/. And reddit. And any communities that are generally looked down upon.
>>
>>135652487
It depends on a lot of things. How long you've been on 4chan, how long you've been on the internet, your age, how stupid you are.

I've been on 4chan for about 7 years but only on /a/ for about 2 years. If you've been on 4chan long enough you know how to lurk out of respect, so you don't need to lurk for months or years like most newfags.
>>
>>135652487
You're always a newfag in subjects you weren't around to see, and can't talk about firsthand. It doesn't matter if you've lurked /a/ 1 year or 10. If you haven't seen it all, you'll always be too new to have seen it all.

>>
>>135652648
Per each post, each opinion, each idea.

If you act like you are new about anime/manga or /a/ culture then you are one. If you didn't do any I listed then don't give a fuck about it because whoever said it was a newfag still trying to fit in. There used to be a lot more tripfags than there are now. Many people dropped them from ~2009-2011 onward because the attitude towards anonymity shifted from it being a means to an end, to it being a desireable end in and of itself.
>>
>>135652850
Tripcodes do have a legitimate purpose.

Content creators like Hox could use tripcodes to establish identity across all boards that use the same hashing algorithm (e.g. 2ch) so that users could filter and search for posts made by said people reliably. Find specific posts in the sea of noise.

But you know, implementing the feature for the legitimate uses also results in faggots abusing it for their own attention whoring purposes. moot isn't in charge of curating the content of the site, it's the users. That's why you're supposed to ignore people using tripcodes for the sake of "establishing their own identity" and other pointless attention whoring instead of replying to them and feeding them attention day after day. Stop giving them (You)s and they stop trying.

This will never stop being funny.
Tripcodes are for identification. That's it. There's no "wrong way" of using it or any way to "abuse" it. The circlejerkers in the Madoka threads are using them properly, chronic shitposters (who are now basically gone from this board) used them properly. 4chan has always let you be as anonymous as you want to be, all that matters in the end is the quality of your posts
>>
>>135653081
Yes I know it wouldn't. I even thought about including a mention of that in parentheses but figured it should be obvious that in the theoretical reverse situation, they would use some other sweeping insult as the equivalent of calling them normalfags.
>>
>>135653125
They actually died. Even they got bored of shitposting this hole.
>>
>>135653072
>Tripcodes do have a legitimate purpose.

Don't know why you're restating what I said already.

What's annoying is how many people love to suck tripfag dick. It seems odd. Like, why do anons suck up to Bear and praise him? It seems rather easy for tripfags to get followers simply because there's always people who love e-celebs.
>>
>>135653088
This reminds me we don't have any dedicated shitposter trying to save /a/ like accelspammer.

>>135653125

>>
>>135653246
"Hey /a/ how was your day" threads died along with any sense of community the board had.
There was a brief surge of them a year ago, but the OP kept getting banned and gave up.
>>
>>135653246
Moderation got strict in the wrong places. Before things that would have them look the other way now and again, will just be deleted.
>>
>>135653187
If you want to go over to /qa/ and propose the removal of tripcodes, go right ahead. Then /a/ and /b/ will finally have something in common [snerk]
>>
>>135653177
Perhaps they achieved their goal
>>
>>135653125
The old IRC splintered late 2014, to /ghost/ and other archive boards.
The current bait is quite stale and all attempts to make new show wars or piss off fanbases will fizzle out if there isn't a show that people actually care about.
/a/ generals are too slow and isolated to fight with each other like most other boards recurring threads.

1 group of retards thought that because a bit of off topic fun here and there was tolerated, then they could go full out with it and became obnoxious shitposters.

Then another group who saw that happen, got pushed the opposite direction and started a zero tolerance policy on all off topic fun and spazzed out at even the slightest hint of it, becoming virtually as bad as the shitposters they fought.

And that just left a small group of middle ground people who don't care for either extreme, and have been being gradually pushed out of the site for not conforming one way or another as the 1 extreme sides clash in greater and greater amounts.

This. There are plenty of /a/nons who stay away from contributing on negative discussion and only participate in all which they actually enjoy. They seek spontaneity, and understand that rules are only for those who need to "be good" rather than to "be good at it." Many of you here wallow in sorrow exerting disdain towards others in which you wish to blame everything for your negative experience, yet it is simply a mere perpetuated fallacy. Why are you not out being creative and posting your own threads, and instead complaining in ones which don't deserve attention? What with all the apathetic one-liner "clever" shitposting, giving attention to the bottom-of-the-barrel posters? This is the state of /a/, which all begins with (You). You know I'm correct. The average thread is some unoriginal phrase such as "X is Y, prove me wrong"(Which used to be a bannable offense) coupled with a reactionface. As for airing shows and news you can always expect someone else to create a thread for it.

I only create threads when there's something I actually want to discuss, such as a certain aspect of an anime of seasons past.

What do you disagree with in particular little buddy.

It's not a very good series. It's too flippy floppy with comedy and drama when neither is any good. Characters aren't very endearing either, even if you do consider that I have weird taste and like Akatsuki. Good rookie performance for Houko though even if Yurika is shit
