This movie just ruined my life. I can't stop remembering it. Why does life have to be so cruel, /a/? Why couldn't they just be together?
>>
Real cherry blossoms supposedly fall like 200 cm a second. Just figured I'd tell that.
>>
>>135619885
That movie was pretty shit, dude.
>>
>>135619885
Is this 5cm per second? Because it wasn't that good, unless you're a teenager or something.
>>
>>135619885
He'd have been better off getting over her sooner
>>
It's a pathetic and pointless movie. Just read some ntr porn and you'll forget about it, trust me.
>>
>>135619885
>This movie just ruined my life.
>Why does life have to be so cruel, /a/?
The fact that you can whine about how an anime movie "ruined your life" on a cartoon imageboard is evidence enough you never had much of a life to begin with, loser

SAVAGE
>>
MC being such a retard sort of ruins the whole idea.

People who feel strongly about each other can just drift apart. It happens all the time and it's not necessarily anyone's fault. That's not what happens in the movie though. MC just starts acting like a mong and ruins everything.

Mate get on my level, I got stuck in the same situation at the time I saw this movie. It ended the same way too, just my love ended taking up 8 dicks

LONDON?

>>135619885

This movie is terrible, and Shinkai is the kind of hack Miyazaki has talked about in the industry. He wallows in sentimentality but he shows no understanding of human behavior, and is possibly stuck on long lost "love" in his own life that has stunted his development. The one time he deviated from his one trick, what did he do? He aped Ghibli. The biggest hack working today.
>>
you get together.
you experience good times, bad times, everything in between.
One day, you are not together, distance slowly stagnates the relationship.

You formed memories, and now you have a whole fucking lifetime ahead of you to do the same with different people at different times at different stages of your maturity and world views.

Because the didn't want to?

They had all opportunities to be together. Never used one or tried to create another.

While I love Shinkai's works - the whole distance "problem" in this one is a fucking joke.
>>
I came for the art, stayed for the art, i loved the art. Don't care if story is shit.

>>
more like 5 yawns per second amirite

Shinkai movies are so fucking masturbatory it's funny. Always dreary and sad boo hoo bullshit and the characters always act like fucking pussies waiting for someone to give them orders on how to live their lives. Maybe it reflects normalfags which is why it's so goddamn pathetic.
>>
She and Her Cat was the best thing he ever did. The longer the format, the worse it is when he's in charge. Except for Voices, that was a straight-up Ghibli pastiche and not too shabby for that.
>>
Is Shinkai the Malick of anime?

They were holding on to an increasingly false image of each other as they stopped their correspondence and only grew older while their idea of each other became static idealizations.
If they had kept the correspondence, there would be hope, but they didn't, so they outgrew each other.
>>
>>135621449
>the whole distance "problem" in this one is a fucking joke.
It starts out as being the distance that keeps them seperate, but after that, the distance becomes a metaphor for their increasing distance in perception of each other.
The whole middle section was about how he would always glance out over the horizon towards an unreachable goal. And the space launch symbolized his journey towards nothing. Heck he even had the voiceover where he imagined himself on that journey, going through the void with no goal. That's his situation. The idealized version of Akari had become unreachable. He was writing his dreams and random messages to her, but just sent them to himself. If there is a more literal image of "she's only inside him and his memories now", I don't know where to find it.
>>
>>135622044
>glance out over the horizon towards an unreachable goal

Define unreachable for me, would you?

>That's his situation

That's the situation he artificially created for himself. Nothing more. The gap was nothing but his imagination and lack of confidence.
>>
>>135622283
That's how it was portrayed, as infinitely distant, unreachable, unfathomable. He _could_ in theory have reached out and contacted her and started it up again, but the idea was so farfetched to him at that point, exactly because he didn't know her anymore, he only knew his memory of her. I don't want to blog, but I know this feeling very very well. And if you already have depressive apathetic tendencies, doing anything about something you're already uncertain about is psychologically impossible, even if a stronger person could do it.
>The gap was nothing but his imagination and lack of confidence.
Yes, exactly.

>>135621944

She moved on, he had a perfect opportunity right in front of him and fucked up. He deserves his loneliness.

No wonder Japs birthrates are declining, they can't even get laid in their fantasies.

His idealization of a could be girlfriend made him a depressive wreck for years and turned him to drinking.

Try looking in the mirror. Nobody is perfect.

You want this girl, who you think is close to you ideal? Good, make your move, be prepaired for her to be less perfect and you being even less perfect.
>>
I honestly don't get the praise for this shit aside from the backgrounds and animation. The story was fucking awful and bland and the ending song over the final minutes was increadibly out of place and kills the mood.
7.5/10 animation, 2/10 scriptwriting.
>>
>>135622706
go drink in a club and impress the girls with your anime knowledge
>>
>>135622706

Become a real human bean. Don't vapidly compare yourself to a space launch going to the ends of the solar system. No shitty faux-poetic monologues.
>>
The book is way worse. He gets NTR'd twice.
>>
>>135621883
That would be an insult to Malick.
If anything Shinkai is the Jar Jar Abrams of anime. All flash, no substance.
>>
>>135622905

They dated for three months. It was a short relationship yet she left a very deep wound on him that he’ll never forget. Perhaps that same wound was also left with her. It was the first time he fell in love with someone so suddenly yet also hated them so much. For two months both of them desperately tried to think of some way to make themselves love each other more and then the following month they continually tried to hurt each other. They had days of unbelievable happiness and ecstasy but there were also the cruel days they couldn’t tell anyone about, hurling unspeakable words at each other.

That winter day some life returned to her eyes after she took her medicine. It was a sacred
moment that took him breath away just looking at her. It was as if he was watching the only flower
that no one in the world had ever seen before bloom before him. A thought had struck him, I can’t
lose this again. He hadn’t cared that she was already having an affair with the maths lecturer.
>>
I dropped this when the MC was such a useless piece of shit that he didn't even take the long stops at a station in the snow to get off and phone ahead.

>>135622706
Don't put girls on pedestals; don't mope when they leave you, but learn from the experience, pick yourself up and find another. The ones that got away may visit you in dreams for decades after, but the bird in the hand is still better.
>>
>>135622944
>All flash, no substance.
That describes all Malick flicks perfectly
Both are pretentious directors trying to unveil some deep truths
>>
>>135623169

Laughable.

>Shinkai is trying to unveil deep truths

He's like the protagonist in 5cm then. Maybe a passing train will finally convince him he sucks.

I compare Shinkai to JJ because they don't make enjoyable shit or rarely do.

Gravity is 900 cm/s^2, so I'm not sure how anyone could think it was 5cm.

Travel to Tokyo and watch some trains cross some streets.

What's with all this autistic samefagging here, though?
I'm definitely not a huge fan of his work, but not to the point of enrolling in this blatant hate.
>>
>>135624855
Some anon found out it got to do with the average speed of a human life or something like that.
>>
>>135624855
Air resistance, low terminal velocity.

And it's 981 cm/s^2

5cm/s is the speed at which trucks pass each other on a two-lane highway.

>people hating on an overrated shitfest is samefagging

How is this overrated? Every time a thread shows up it's filled with mixed opinions. Some anons enjoyed it, some didn't, but never it's filled with such autistic kids like yourself who need to blog about their hate.
Surely you don't mean overrated on your MAL forum?
