It is not like Lain or Texhnolyze. Maybe in terms of visual themes but the resemblance ends there. It is a decent show with some rather great character development, but don't expect it to be like Lain or Texh.

No it wasn't. It was atmospherically inconsistent with the rest of the series and is why people consider that episode filler. It was barely an infodump when you get a blink and miss 30 second infodump. Something that crucial should be better placed within the series. "Creative" or not, it was harmful to the overall piece. If you want a good example of an infodump, see Serial Experiments Lain's.

this is probably one of the most annoying animes i've seen
>>
>>135567052
It were humans doe. Proxies had a mechanism in them which would kill every artificial human through their android companions (the cogito virus was supposed to set them off on a killing rampage and that was unwillingly spread by the proxies), while proxies themselves couldn't live in the sun so they'd die off too. Vincent was different since he can survive sunlight, he was altered by Proxy One to fuck up Humanity's original plan and fight for the "artificial" human's right to live. Vincent entire journey was his conditioning by Proxy One for that mission.
>>
>>135567344
There's not a whole lot going on desu. Are you sure you're not trying to find meaning where there is none?
>>
>>135568218
Wait so Vincent isn't Proxy One? I thought he was just going through some dual personally bullshit or did I miss something important?
>>
>>135564855
One of the final scenes of the last episode shows ships returning to Earth, ostensible from the Boomerang Star mentioned in the gameshow episode.

>>135567052
I mean, its not like there was a payoff to the whole Icarus/Daedalus thing which involved a character literally flying into the sunlight and dying or anything, right? That'd be silly.
>>
>>135569044
Not the Anon you are talking to, but Vincent's job is to recycle the proxies and continue the next stage of the world.
Proxy1 is Vincent yes, but more like a clone.
His job was to ensure the survival of the humans until the world could be livable again.
Proxy1 became selfaware of Vincent's eventual role to destroy him and everything else.
So he tried to prevent it for as long as possible, never allowing the cycle to continue.
Vincent and the virus are the countermeasures to this, Vincent's journey is to learn to learn what he is.
He comes back full circle to Proxy 1, defeats him and the cycle continues.
With now breed able humans.
>>
>>135569044
No, Proxy One is Proxy One. Vincent 'Ergo Proxy' was another proxy like him but for the purpose of eliminating any proxy which wouldn't go down via the "pulse" aka. the initiation of the purge of the artificial humans and their entire civilisation. One had some crisis when he realised what was going on, went 'fuck it' and came up with his own plan to fight back using Ergo. It probably was convenient for him that at the time Ergo went into his own despair and wiped off his memories which made him vulnerable for manipulation.
>>
so why dit they make the artificial humans in the first place if the plan is to kill them in the end anyway?
>>
>>135569179
>Vincent and the virus are the countermeasures to this
Cogito virus was part of the original humans' plan, not a countermeasure. It's revealed on a BD-extra scene that autorieves were supposed to become unstable due to it and turn against the citizens of the domes.
>>
>>135569250
Keep the populations in check
>>
>>135569286
but that doesnt make sense, the original humans went to space to wait till the earth was safe again for them.
Then why did they make a entire artificial race of humans that cant breed and have less emotions.
And to make it so that when the earth is safe again that all of them will be killed.
Thats a cruel thing to do.
>>
This anime could've been a fucking GOAT masterpiece if the writers knew what they were doing and didn't overreach.
>>
>>135569250
Either terra-forming or having some form of human civilisation on the planet in case the colony in space faced death. They went with a safe option - cloning and people being sterile to prevent any evolutionary changes.

>>135569369
Well the humans were awful just for the fact of having ruined their own planet beyond repair in a foreseeable future, they probably viewed their creations as "spare parts" and nothing more.
>>
>>135569369
To look after the Earth for them, to prevent evolution, as a failsafe for humanity if the ship thing goes bad. I guess. I don't think it was ever answered in the text.
>>
>>135569391
I think the main problem was that they didn't know when the fuck to stop writing
>>
>>135569439
This is probably the reason why the protagonist is being given an OK to fight them possibly to their deaths. Though once you look at it, that doesn't make it any less of a bleak ending because the dome people are very vulnerable, there's only a couple dozens of them surviving the dome collapse and none of them are super resilient like Re-l was. They're probably doomed either way.
>>
>>135564454
I think this show is one of those "it's about the journey, not the destination", sort of like Samurai Champloo. Every episode was completely different from the one before it and you had no fucking clue what the next episode would be; And that's what keeps you watching. The great thing about sci-fi is that not everything has to be explained because it doesn't need to be. Leaving the veiwer with questions hightens the allure of the universe.
>>
>>135552274
It never occurred to me that they look similar. Huh.

>I mean, its not like there was a payoff to the whole Icarus/Daedalus thing which involved a character literally flying into the sunlight and dying or anything, right? That'd be silly.
It literally was. The guy who made Real, Re-l's clone at the end, was named Daedalus. She flies into to the sky at the end after saying her goodbyes with Vincent and burns into ashes because she wasn't told she can't survive sunlight. I think that as a clone she was a more faithful to the original Monad version than Re-l was.
