It's better than Kiritsugu's because at least he was able to experience and find joy in something, even if it was something as fucked as destruction.

Kiritsugu wasn't able to experience joy ever because he knows how fucked everything would become.
>>
>>135338122
It's not comparable. You're better off just taking it as a separate thing, especially since you have 40 or so hours of the Fate route(saber) first anyways.

Kiri could have just walked away. Then again he didn't know the grail was fake so he really thought he'd gain something from winning.

From FSN as a whole, it's missing about 2/3 of its content obviously.

The anime adaptation only adapted the second route of the VN, "Unlimited Blade Works" (hence the title).

I would argue that UBW was overall a better adaptation, but you have to understand the context of what it was. The 2006 anime handled the first route, so the 2014 anime handled the second.

Starting with UBW is like starting with season two of a show. You might be able to pick up a bunch of things, but it's not surprising when you end up missing stuff.

Absolutely not. Weapons in UBW suffer a rank down.
Meaning even if he traces the most glorious A+++ rank super-sword, it's thwacked away because God Hand doesn't give a shit about B+++ items.
The only thing he can do to hurt Heracles at all is Broken Phantasm which requires time and energy, deploying the reality marble won't make that any easier and if anything will just make it harder because it removes terrain to hide behind (it's a barren fucking wasteland) and drain shittons of energy for no raisin.

All Archer had to do in that situation was aim for Ilya.

She's a bitch. Why couldn't she just tell Kariya to fuck off if she didn't like her. You're right about Kariya being a beta, and that's why Aoi, being a typical woman, kept him around. She knew he loved her but never told him to fuck off because she is a whore who wanted attention from men and orbiters to be her slaves.
>>
>>135342054
No, it would be the most cathartic anti-ntr if he proved he was more of a man than Tokiomi, and won Aoi back through his own merit. But he couldn't, because even though Tokiomi has ducked up priorities, he is twice the man that Kariya is.

Don't assume that she will cheat. Life isn't a porno, women aren't just ready to throw away their lives on a whim. Yes, cheating happens. But it isn't the norm, and trying to get with a married woman is a losing strategy. Also, a lot of the time a cheater will go back to their spouse. Even if Kariya makes her question her marriage, she will still most likely go back to Tokiomi.
>>
>>135342263
He literally gave his life trying to save her daughter with the man she cucked him with, and she had the gall to tell him he doesn't know what love is. Or something like that, its been a while.

I don't think shes obligated to fuck him or anything, but I was certainly cheering for Kariya when he was strangling her to death.
>>
>>135342615
Yes, but Kariya believed Aoi was not happy with her marriage, which she also did not straighten out with him.
>>
>>135342617
He was only trying to save Sakura to get with Aoi. He doesn't know what love is. He knows what obsession is. Also, betas need to learn this: if you have never been with a relationship with her, you don't love her. Love happens after a long time of being together. A crush is not love. Kariya literally does not know what love is, because he hasn't experienced it.
>>
>>135342654
She has no obligation to "straighten out" the details of her marriage with him, as it is none of his business.
>>

>>135342686
If love is that thing my parents have then im not interested. I'll take infatuation over that any day of the week. I'm going to be honest with you, i'm not really interested in 3d relationships or anything of that sort. At the end of the day if you want to make up two new words for the filthy thing you call love, and infatuation, thats fine. I know which one I never want to be a part of.

Secondly, he clearly didn't think Aoi was going to marry him if he saved Sakura; he did it because it was the daughter of someone he had strong attachment to and emotions toward. Even if you don't think he loved her, he was infatuated with her to the extent that he sacrificed himself foolishly for a chance to save her daughter.

He'd have to go all in on trying to kill Illya, which is very out of character.
>>
>>135338122
make sure you're reading the reaulta nau version of the vn
>>
>>135342786
Yeah, marriages often fall to shit. Love isn't permanent. And yeah, infatuation is a lot easier than love. But love happens after discovering all the flaws of a person, learning to work around those flaws, and wanting to be with them anyway. That takes years to do. And yeah, maybe love isn't for you, that's fine. But you don't know what love is. Which brings us back to Aoi's point: Kariya does not know what love is.

And yes he did think Aoi would marry him/jump on his dick if he saved Sakura. If he really cared about Sakura, he would have gotten outside help, instead of trying to go solo and get the glory and gratitude from Aoi.

>They're all pretty old, so they fight with firm belief systems. However, among them, Matou Kariya, who's fighting for Sakura's freedom, is an anomaly. He, and only he, fights for a very shonen manga-esque ideal, "to save a girl." In that respect, I think it's easier for the reader to identify with Kariya compared to the valiant types like Kiritsugu.

Aoi was actually arranged to be with Kariya, before he left the Matou out of disgust.

>"She accepted Tokiomi's proposal with full knowledge of what it meant to marry a mage."

I know the Wiki isn't official, but short of scouring the novels for the answer, that's the best source available.

The irony is your comments are quite sexist. You deny women any power or responsibility.
>>

He would need to be told to step off if he actually did anything more than pine after her and secretly fap to her. He never made any advances after she was married, so she would never have to tell him to back off.

She was arranged to marry Kariya before he left. Then she becomes arranged to Tokiomi, and the marriage goes through. This would have happened whether or not she liked Tokiomi. She did in fact love Tokiomi but would not explain it to Kariya because he apparently does not deserve an explanation. The point is, she would have gotten married whether she liked Tokiomi or not, ans since she never rejected Kariya properly, he thought she did like him and not Tokiomi.
>>
>>135343502
She could have said something when he told her he would kill Tokiomi to and save her.
>>
>>135343569
You're acting like it's Aoi's responsibility to reject him when he doesn't even bring up the subject. He never confesses to her, or asks her to leave Tokiomi for him. If he never asks, he will never get a yes or no. If Kariya honestly thought that Aoi would choose to be with him, he would have talked to her about it. The very fact that he never brings it up shows that he knows that Aoi won't choose him. He doesn't want to be rejected. He would rather watch Tokiomi fuck her than get formally rejected.
>>
>>135343666
He brought it up during loli Rin's adventure and she still said nothing.
>>
>>135343710
Because he literally walked away before she could. He said his speech, she says "wait", he says "someday we'll play in this park again, r-right?" And walks away. She doesn't chase after him because she has to take care of her unconscious child. If he didn't have such a flair for dramatic faggotry, he would have actually sat down and talked it out with her.
>>
>>135343808
If she really wanted to say something she would have.
>>
>all this whiteknight faggotry
Aoi's flaw was her passivity. What made her the "perfect wife" ironically brought a lot of misery.
>>
>>135343869
If he really wanted to hear it, he could have stayed to listen.

Also, she just found her child unconscious in a park. Dealing with her obsessive ex is lower on her priorities list.
>>
>>135343925
>If he really wanted to hear it, he could have stayed to listen.
Of course he would not want to listen to that after coming so far, what's your point?

He just told her he would kill her husband. She could have said "I WANT TO BE WITH TOKIOMI, NOT YOU" if she wasn't a bitch.
>>
>>135343892
You're absolutely right. Aoi isn't perfect. However, Kariya is responsible for his own sorrow. Never assume that a married woman wants you. Even if she had been leading him on, it's still his responsibility to not take that shit, and leave her for good.

Why you're talking about Aoi and Kariya
This thread has to be dedicated to the legit hero of justice, Kiritsugu Emiya
>>
>>135343978
>Kariya is responsible for his own sorrow.
True and Aoi bears much responsibility for her own sorrow.
>>
>>135343972
>Of course he would not want to listen to that after coming so far

Exactly. He fucking knows that Aoi doesn't love him. He doesn't want to listen to her, because he knows that she will reject him. Yet he follows her around like a lost puppy anyway. His suffering is his fault. He can choose to walk away from Aoi at any moment. But he never did.
>>
>>135344034
Sure, I can accept that. That was never the issue. The issue was that faggots felt sorry for Kariya's pussy ass.
>>
>>135344050
>He fucking knows that Aoi doesn't love him
He doesn't.
>>
>>135344081
Yes he does know that she doesn't love him. If he thought that she loved him, he would have confessed years ago. He would have sat down and talked to her, told her how he felt, and ask her to leave Tokiomi. But he didn't. Why? Because he knows he will be rejected.
>>
>>135344148
> She would have sat down and talked to him, told him how she he felt, and tell him she would not leave Tokiomi. But she didn't. Why? Because she is a bitch.

>>
>>135344234
>>135344215
You know what I meant.
>>
>>135344181
Yeah, I always tell my friends that I'm not into them, even if they don't confess to me. Just to make things awkward. Seriously, Aoi is fine with the situation. She has the relationship that she wants. Kariya is the one who wants things to change. It's his job to make it happen. Also, even if Aoi led him on by not rejecting him, he still didn't muster up the balls to confess to her, meaning that he is still to blame for his suffering.

Scenario A: Kariya thinks Aoi loves him.
Kariya should confess, I mean, why not? If he thinks that she's into him, go for it! But he doesn't. He's a pussy, and his suffering is his fault.

Scenario B: Kariya knows Aoi does not love him.
He should either be friends, or leave Aoi forever. He has no chance of any romance, either be happy as friends, or leave. But he doesn't. He's a pussy, and his suffering is his own fault.
>>
>>135344234
If that woman is married, yes.
>>
>>135336751
Being a hero isn't exactly a good thing in the Nasuverse.

If you become heroic enough, you get removed from the Cycle of Reincarnation and get stuck in some faggot's fucking Hard Drive and stay there, forever.

Meanwhile, normal people can keep getting reincarnated over and over again.
>>
>>135344339
But Aoi knew Kariya loved her. You blame Kariya saying he should have backed off knowing Aoi did not want him, even though she never said it, but you defend Aoi not rejecting Kariya knowing he loved her even though he did not confess.
>>
>>135344071
It's okay to pity Kariya, his life was a wreck from the cradle forward. There was good to him, even if he was pathetic and deluded. He did legitimately care about Sakura and didn't want her in the hands of evil grandpa and he wanted to make Aoi happy even if he wanted her to prefer him to Tokiomi.

People feel bad for him because he wants to "make things right" and find some happiness but it's futile.
>>
>>135344402
Because. She. Married. Another. Man. That is a rejection.

And yet again, it doesn't matter if Aoi is wrong or right. The point is, Kariya could have saved himself from all his problems, by either confessing or leaving. He is to blame for his sorrow. This is my point. Kariya is not to be pitied. Even if Aoi was a bitch, Kariya could have solved his own problems.

He did have a hard childhood, I'm sure. But everything that happened to him in Fate/Zero is his fault.

And again, if he wanted to save Sakura for Sakura's sake, he would have gotten help, instead of going solo. He wanted all the praise and gratitude from Aoi all to himself.

Aoi and Tokiomi's marriage was not arranged. She "accepted his proposal". Her choice, 100%.

From who? How? He stormed off the grandpa's to find out what the deal was and had to strike a deal there.
>>
>>135344666
I did read it. He claims Tokiomi and Aoi had an arranged marriage. He's full of shit. It wasn't arranged.
>>
>>135344505
> she was arranged to marry kariya before he left
forgive me, I don't remember this. I know them as childhood sweethearts, and that's all.

even if that is the case, couldn't kariya just man up being a mage if he wanted her that bad? like, he wants the lady, but he doesn't want to work for it.

do i pity him? I guess so. wanting to save the sisters from zouken iz good. But not for his heartbreak ntr whatever. that.. he brought himself.
>>
>>135344545
>he would have gotten help,

You don't really understand how this whole mage thing works.
>>
>>135344696
Read it again you idiot.
>>
>>135344681
Nope, if your own troubles are your own fault, no pity.

He could have found help. As a last resort, he could have even gotten hired help. I mean, Kiritsugu does that kind of work all the time. Get a mage for hire like him.
>>
>>135344724
Yep, read it again, you're still a dumbass. It wasn't arranged. If it wasn't arranged, then Kariya would think "oh, she must love Tokiomi, since it is entirely her own choice to go through with this marriage".

They claim it was arranged. They are wrong. Go look it the fuck up.
>>
>>135344821
Did you read the entire page on the wiki when you quoted it?
>>
>>135344830
Yes. And their marriage was not arranged.
>>
>>135344750
>Nope, if your own troubles are your own fault, no pity.
Stone cold. I don't fully agree but that's your way.

You don't understand. After coming to grandpa's house, he had to strike a deal then and there. Zouken was wicked and senile and didn't give a fuck about Sakura's life, and he was not going to just let Kariya leave after Kariya messed shit up for him. Kariya had to make a deal then and there and from there, under Zouken's thumb, he had to go solo.

And it wouldn't have been easy for him to find help in the mage world. A bum like Kariya sure as hell couldn't hire a guy like Kerry, who was too busy striving to end all suffering to focus on one case anyway.
>>
>>135344902
Next read the LN.
>>
>>135344935
No he didn't have to strike a deal right then and there. Zouken sent Sakura to the wormpit up until the Grail War anyway. Whether or not Kariya put a plan into action that day or later doesn't matter. He could have planned it out, gotten help, and saved her. And yes he could hire help. Kariya has income of some kind. He could even ask Aoi to chip in.
>>
>>135345009
>No he didn't have to strike a deal right then and there....
Yes because Zouken would just allow him leave freely and plot against him, right?
>>
>>135344943
i don't understand why he has the burden of proof. If you claim that the marriage is arranged in the LN, why don't you show proof yourself.

The marriage was not arranged. Aoi agreed to it. Just accept it anon.

80% of the game is SoL with Shirou with small tidbits of Bazett here and there?

Archer has like, five scenes. It's kind of bullshit.

I'd say most of the game is pretty bullshit, to be honest. Some good scenes mixed between a bunch of bullshit, but nothing that ever made me go "wow".

The Bazett stuff was okay. I kinda liked the message about moving on, and how you can't keep living an endless happy dream forever. You could see it as Nasu almost trying to close the book on these characters, and give them all a goodbye.

Loses a fair bit of its impact though when you realize Fate's still his bread and butter 10 years later.

Come on, we all know that after A pluses are not situational, but just next level of strength. Under what conditions Excalibur is equal to Bellerophon? Or to Caliburn, for that matter?
>>
>>135347674
>Under what conditions Excalibur is equal to Bellerophon? Or to Caliburn, for that matter?
When not wielded by the true king of britain.
>>
>>135347745
All NPs drop in rank or even not work altogether when acquired wrong - it's less of a condition and more of a rule.
>>
>>135349849
But this would apply even, say, in Lancelot's hands.

You disappoint me, /a/.
>>
>>135350623
I don't think that's how Knight of Honour works, but I might not be following you. It functions by making any NP he grabs into his NP, and gives him full access to its abilities. Any ownership rules (e.g. GoB) will be overridden by KoH for as long as Lancelot is using whatever NP he's grabbed.
>>
>>135350811
There is a few DRM-blocked phantasms, like Ea or Excalibur - it's unknown how does they function with KoH. But it's not the original point of argue anyway - if pluses are situational, then there should be a situation when Excalibur used by Arturia loses to Medusa's Bellerophon. This is not what happens - Excalibur straightforwardly called a phantasm better then Bellerophon - therefore, pluses are just additional level of strength before EX.
>>
>>135351039
>then there should be a situation when Excalibur used by Arturia
That's not implied at all, the condition can very well be "when used by someone with dragonblood".

>>135350811
No, he keeps the level of the NP and it's treated as his, he doesn't freely satisfy all requirements made of it. If he took Gae Bolg he couldn't do the reality inverting heart stab because that's Cuchulainn's technique channeled through the spear, not an ability of the spear alone.
