What show can make me see the Slice of Life light?
Get a job, don't live on your parents' money <- important.
Then after a tiring day from workplace, watch a good slice of life anime.
Most SoL is garbage so it's not a surprise it's very hard finding good series for it.
Either jump right into something like Haibane renmei/School Rumble/Aria
And get a feel for what kind of Sol you enjoy
Athena will show you the light.
I think it boils down to a lack of something important. I'm stuck in a soulless city working strange hours, so I appreciate Non Non Biyori. I'd much rather be stomping around the woods myself but that's not in the cards for another few months.
I also missed my little sister, but I just got to see her for Christmas
The yearning to leave behind that lonely meaningless void your life has become after abandoning every ideal you ever had and to find joy and new meaning in the appreciation of the small precious things and moments in life.
This desu senpai. I watch SoL because my once big dreams are but memories of trying in failing in my teens/early 20's" So it's nice to escape once in a while. Live someone else life per say.
I was a really happy person when I tried SoL anime for the first time and loved it, then again my first SoL was K-on! and that's really hard to hate unless you have a biased position towards cute anime.
Ignore the other answers. Aria the Origination is the only one that can do that. But you need to watch the first two seasons first which was quite hard for me. The last season is on a whole different level than all other SOL you will ever watch.
>But you need to watch the first two seasons first which was quite hard for me
Get out of my sight.
SoL comes in countless flavors and subgenres, so there's a lot to trial and error involved:
Iyashikei (escapism, happiness):
Non Non Biyori
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka
Sora no Woto (cute girls with war trauma)
Sakura Trick (lesbian kisses)
Seitokai Yakuindomo (lewd humor)
No Hidamari Sketch?
First season is a little slow but after that it's one wild ride. The series having 4 seasons + 2 OVAs is not without reason.
And remember, when watching SoL, don;t rush all of it at once.
K-On! was my gateway.
Very entertaining character interactions, girls are cute, top tier Kyoani visuals and character animation, and fun music.
Still my favorite anime.
The first 23 ish episodes of Hitman Reborn. The purest and comfiest slice of life feel i've ever got from any anime. Honestly. I wish more shounen anime started out like KHR
I saw 95% of these but not Ikoku Meiro.
Looks cute as fuck, I guess it's next on my watch list.
That would still imply mutual exclusivity, no? For every percent of healing, you sacrifice a percent of comedy (and vice-versa).
Unless the magnitude of these things is ignored by the graph, of course. In which case something at the centre could have both more healing and comedy than something at the extremes.
everytime there's a SoL thread nobody mentions Fuujin monogatari. Have anons forgotten an excellent SoL with a unique artstyle? I think that the last time I saw it here was buried deep in some 3x3 thread
Windy Tales is well respected here, I think. Mostly because of the art, not so much for its story, which meandered a bit too much, after a strong start. Great ending too, but everything in between seemed a bit pointless.
What about Fruits Basket?
Sometimes I think this is THE anime that resembles Aria the most, at least because of its atmosphere and the fact that the MC's are so similar.
>The Garden of Words
This had gorgeous animation, but I found the plot and (to a lesser extent) the characters mediocre.
I'd say to give this a watch mostly for the animation and the relaxed pacing in the first 60-80% of it's runtime.

I was interested since I have never heard of it before, but holy crap that artstyle is scary.
