I prefer lovey dovey, but am ok with the tragedies as long as it makes me feel satisfied. One that comes to mind is Your Lie In April.

I think I hate the majority of romance centred manga for being way too trope ridden.

The majority of characters are near autistic in ineptitude to explain things or clear misunderstandings. There's no sexual agency what so ever to the point it suspends disbelief really badly.

At best we get to see them kiss after much rigmarole. Fuck, at least in Love Hina you got to see them get married and in Boku Girl Takeru and Mizuki touch each other up.

Romance is alight, just not as the main focus.

I like it when a story follows the cinderella format.

Shit starts out okay, turns terrible in a single swoop and then slowly improves as the story goes on until it ends up even better than when it started with a few bumps in the road.

It fulfills my tragedyboner while still ending happily.

The problem is that they're mostly drama fests. and not "Oh no ___-kun didn't respond to my text, he must hate" me drama but "Oh yeah I slept with your brother and I might be pregnant" soap opera tier drama.

The problem wasn't the family business but his using it as an excuse not to deepen the relationship with the girl he had been pining for all this time, like he was going off to fucking Iraq or something and there was no way he'd meet her again.

If Karin hadn't been willing to maintain the relationship, he would have left her and settled for "memories" while wallowing in self-pity over what could have been.
