Because there are so many characters and the switch between gag and super serious drama is really jarring. Not to mention the slow start is hard for lots of people to get into.

People complain that one punch man is nothing but a bad parody with the same gag over and over again.
Meanwhile in Gintama, the entire Anime just revolves around shit-tier comedy based on parodying popular anime to gain popularity itself but then not doing anything with it.

It's the kind of show only absolute idiots who interpret meaning into things that aren't there would watch (see Big Bang Theory).

The only good thing the show has going for it is that the orange-haired girl walks around in chinese-style outfits, but that's not a reason to watch a sub-par show.

Theres like 5 different Gintama itterations in MAL's top 20 anime. As mentioned before, because it's episodic nature, its hard to discuss on /a/ but in saying that there was an active thread for 2 days this weekend with the announcement its ending. There'll be a thread tomorrow to discuss the latest episode.
