Italy has always been one of the biggest manga importer/comic market in EU (second to France).

On the other hand, it has declined in the past years between crisis, anime on TV dying without decent internet/streaming fallback and most importantly nearsighted publishers decisions and average readers not caring about them (plus having terrible taste).

In the sea of mediocre shit most readers are happy to eat up there are still some good/niche series or even stuff you won't find elsewhere save from Japan, but they're few exceptions here and there.
