Having done it for a couple of years in the past, I have nothing but respect for those that get the scanlation bug and put forth all that effort, but looking back, it's not really worth it. Didn't help my Japanese that much, and you don't find much need to do lots of text placement in Photoshop outside of this kind of thing.

Overall, it's kind of like the old saw about what the best thing is about repeatedly hitting yourself in the head with a brick ... how good it feels when you stop.

There are literally dozens of "groups" that form on /a/ and work on a manga (sometimes more) before fizzling out after several months. The only long running groups I can think of are /ak/ (which do jack shit these days) and Habanero Scans (which isn't really a group, strictly speaking).

It's easier to identify individual scanners, a lot of them are tripfags and/or can be easily identified.

You don't need to be able to draw, just use the pen tool and follow what's there. In the first panel you would just clone stamp the pattern and then use the pen tool to complete the lines.
