Are there any Baki fans on /a/? For the most part I never see this series get any love on this board. Which is a shame because I think it's one of the most interesting and visually compelling manga ever drawn.

Here's a link to one of the newer raws: http://www.mangaumaru.com/archives/564785

I like Baki.

I like when the author goes on these multiple page pseudoscience rants like babies surviving falls from skyscrapers or turning the bones in your hand into a whip.

I think more shounen authors should learn from him and do an entire chapter dedicated to sex.

Also I want Musashi to get rekt

>>
>>134939962

I admire the creators commitment. There are a lot of outrageous and extreme ideas presented and you almost always get to see some crazy satisfying outcome from them. I feel like most author don't have the balls that Keisuke does.
>>
>>134940068
There is only one reason why babies survive "relatively" higher falls and it's due to the square cube law, in this particular case the mass to surface area ratio. It's the same principle why any smaller creature survives higher falls. It has nothing to do with how relaxed you are and all that mystical bullshit.
>>
>>134939826
If there's one thing Itagaki does well, it's that he consistently makes his characters engage in serious discussions about the most ridiculous concepts.

Baki is what it is and the author takes no shame in doing what he finds fun. I can appreciate that.

>>
>>134940159
Well Itagaki has certainly carved out a niche for him. His characters have "weird" expressions and he has a distinct style of anatomy and unatural looking poses but that all gives him a sense of uniqueness.

And I don't think many other authors have written such a huge amount of work dedicated to different times of a characters life.

I thought he was parting with Baki after the yujiro fight but I guess he still can't let go since it's everything for him.

>>
>>134940446

yes, if I remember correctly, yujiro talks with strydum about jacks blood not being pure
>>
>>134940446

Wasn't it implied at one point that Yujiro has had many sons that weren't up to his standards? Jack and Baki are the only ones that could ever peak his interest in terms of being a worthy son.
>>
>>134940577
Well it's not pure in the sense that he specifically chose Baki's mother to mate for her qualities, whereas he just raped Jack's mother.

Not like yujiro was cucked by another man or anything

I was just thinking that the hanma blood was so strong that he could mate with a midget and still produce a superhuman but I guess that's not how it works.
>>
>>134940516

I have a hard time making sense of the power scales in baki-verse.

Like strong characters have been shown doing literal superhuman feats like wrecking cars, and then you have athletes from our universe like muhammud ali/pro wrestlers who should by all means be weak in baki-verse, but are actually pretty strong.

Like how did Ali Jr. beat all those guys?

Real life athletes are always exaggerated to an extent. Ali jr was supposed to be everything that Ali was in his prime but better. He did make his mark on a lot of characters but when it came down to actual fights with the stronger cast he got pummeled.

I wouldn't want to go into power scales. Baki says something along the lines of being strong enough and being prepared are two different things. I dunno.

Here's a picture of Ali jr having his faced caved in.
>>

Baki always had decent thread whenever new chapter is out. I think you might just kill the series in this board with this cancerous thread. Good freaking job.

Yuichiro_Hanma.jpg

He should've gone into more detail about Baki's grandfather.

I'm guess the hanmas are cursed to have the son kill the father to prove his strength, thereby always producing a strong and worthy heir. Yujiro killed his dad and wants to train Baki to do the same. And Baki is supposed to break away from that.

I remember reading about how female Megalodons would try to devour its young after giving birth. It seems counterintuitive at first but it's just another filtering/natural selection tool. It's the same reason why Yujiro beat the shit out of baki and seems so abusive.
>>
>>134941154
> Ali jr was supposed to be everything that Ali was in his prime but better.

Yeah but the thing is, the Ali from our universe should get utterly trashed in baki's universe. I can only assume everything gets scaled up.

But the weird thing is Ali Jr. hasn't performed any superhuman feats, just your typical hitting the chin and rattling the brain.

So in a weird way the superhumans in baki's universe brought back down to earth with simple attacks from our own.

Maybe I should re-read that whole arc.

Seeing Doppo getting beat by Ali jr so easily made me think the same thing. I would think the Baki and Jack fights tried to show that while Ali has phenomenal skills he was still drastically unprepared and inexpirenced as a fighter.

Why was baki so apathetic when Ali Jr confronted him and asked to date his girl? That part seemed weird.

Alright, so I'm still trying to assemble a team/find a team that can put the spiny Jew out of business. If anyone has any potential leads on a translator for Korean or Japanese, it would be much appreciated. I'm willing to dedicate a lot of my own time and money in order to make this happen: prettier scans in perfect, comprehensible English with punctuation. Might go back and rescan/translate older chapters if it proves possible. If you want that to happen, aid me in my quest.

Posting picture of best character, embarrassing Oliva. Oh - also, does anyone know if there's any Shibukawa paraphernalia? I need some.

bad timing it seems

The chinese pretty much had all of Son of Ogre translated for at least a year while english scanlators were playing catch up.

But if "profit" is what you want there are tons of diamond in the rough mangas where both korean and chinese scanlators ahead and just waiting for english translators to take advantage of.

For instance the yomanga guys are capitalizing on korean ecchi manhwas right now and are making a killing. It's obscure enough that the leecher sites always lag behind a few days so they get pretty good ad revenue.

I just want there to be free, good translations for people so that the series can become more popular and so that the current readers can enjoy the manga more. The translations' quality are appallingly poor, the scans are not worth paying for, and the Jew has no right to profit from Itagaki's work in the first place.

yeah I agree that is unacceptable

as for #3 though, I still follow the free market philosophy.

It's not so much that he's making money off Itagaki's work as he's making money off his shitty translations and whatever small amount of effort he put into scanning, cleaning and typesetting.

Does it violate copyright? Sure, but then so does any high quality scanlator's work. So does Batoto.

In other words it's up to other volunteers to out-compete him and drive him out of business and "prove" that his sub par service doesn't have a place.

Otherwise the sole worth of his product is dictated by the fact that he's lucky enough to have a raw provider and the rest of us don't.

There's two parts to Tough, separated by a time skip. I don't think the first half is completely translated.

Our world's Muhammad Ali was definitely more of a "fighter" than the other boxers of his era, but he did not have the slightest clue how to fight against and/or adapt to something completely foreign. That's what we saw in his fight against Igari, a.k.a. Antonio Inoki. He had his legs severely wounded just because he was unfamiliar with a fighting stance and couldn't figure out how to adapt to its stratagem.

I'll definitely look into it, of course - I planned to before you mentioned it in this thread. I believe you asked about it before in a prior thread, when I was first starting to look for a crew. If not, someone else wants it done, which gives me more incentive to do it. I don't think I can read/take Ippo seriously after seeing this thread in my picture.
>>
>>134943653
Didn't inspire Toriko as well?
>>
>>134944402
Nah I wasn't the guy in the other thread.

Ippo is scanned by mangastream at this point, who wait several months for chapters to build up before scanning them in one go.

mangastream doesn't demand donations but they are very profit oriented in their tactics, and contains way too much localization for my liking

Satire aside, it would truly be an intriguing undertaking for a mangaka - Itagaki in particular - to write actions and words for a character who is essentially an incredibly tall, greatsword-wielding berserker with an extremely strong sense of honor. Donia in modern times would be incredibly exciting. This was his sword in my picture.

Musashi (of our Baki world) relies on technique, extreme foresight, reflexes, etc. Donia would be a great next antagonist because he was the exact opposite - no real technique, Pickle-tier strength and size, and a curiously untapped rage mode.
>>
I want to see Itagaki do something else, maybe sci-fi or non martial arts based action, hell maybe even a romance manga.
>>

I was sure you were going to suggest that Guts would be brought into the bakiverse by Dr. Albert Payne using quantum mechanics and multiverse theory
>>

They will revive him after Musashi gets rekt by the other samurai dude
>>
im off to watch sicario now

fuck you all
>>
>>134944711
That's Albert E. Payne to you.

>>134944547
I thought Ippo was over; guess not. I can take a look at it, perhaps. It's much less likely that I'd work on it than Baki or Tough, though.
>>
>>134944868
You don't have to read it for scanlation purposes.

It's one of the longest running mangas alongside Golgo 13 and Detective Conan. It's part of history now. Hell, Miura was an assistant during the early stages and you can see the effect the gritty earlier art style had on him (or was it the other way around)

For some time it was the go to manga for technical accuracy in fighting. That's changed somewhat.

Anyways Tough stands somewhere between Baki and Ippo in terms of realism.

If you want true to life accuracy now I'd suggest teppuu (shame that was cancelled).

I'm almost 100% certain we'll see more of Baki's lineage/family history, but only when it becomes relevant to events in the ongoing story. That being said, I don't think Yuichiro will be revived - he's too intimate with Yuujiro. Nonetheless, Yuichiro's character and existence *must* be expounded upon at some point, and thereby we'll also get some exposition on if the Hanma line is Egyptian or whatever, maybe some information on what sets them apart from other humans; who knows?

Kinda sad that the chink died, but at least he went out like a man.
>>
>>134944113
I hope not, Musashi and Pickle alone are full on bullshit that only served to hype Baki and make everyone else but Yujiro job to them.
Remember when Doppo, Gouki and the rest actually won fights in the other arcs?
>>
>>134944113
Guys I want to have muscles like Yuujiro. What do I need to do?

I stopped reading when he was learning how to use bug techniques from a praying mantis or something. It was good but i didn't care anymore.
Does it get better?

Well, I watched some of the anime and I kind of dropped it after his father showed up in person for the first time.

The problem was that the fights were not fights. They were more turn based. There was no choreography, one of them would beat up the other, then they'd go "okay my turn" and all attacks would stop working on them and they'd beat up the other guy, then the original guy would take his turn and his attacks that were just not working would start working again.

It kind of ruined the action for me.

This version of the manga doesn't have an anime adaption. You're thinking of the grappler series that came before it.

>>134950384
Whoops.

Point still stands for that version though.
