I'm not that autist who spouted "genre deconstruction" unironically. But I can say that OPM delves more than just plain fighting and monster-of-the-week formula, although that may not be very obvious in the anime adaptation considering how much Madhouse glorifies the fight scenes.

Saitama being able to one-shot everything actually set up a scenario about how unfulfilling life would turn out if one has actually attained the epitome of strenght. There are no more challenge nor crisis to be had, especially as an aspiring hero. The story pretty much portrays how Saitama would deal with that scenario. While at the antagonist's side of story, it portrays how would it feel to against a hero who is practically undefeatable; the shame, the disgrace, and the futility of their struggle. It's actually quite interesting premise if you manage to see beyond the one punch gag.
