Don't worry, after that literally every character stops existing while Kirito gets a personality.

The easiest way to see how this is bad is to watch a better show with a similar concept (for example, Log Horizen)
1. The creator of SAO doesnt know how mmorpgs actually work.
2. This is a wish fulfillment show, made up of the edgy teen who can do anything and makes all the girls fall in love with him (the only person who could possibly beat Kirito in a 1 on 1 duel had to cheat to do it.)
3. There is no actual tension within the show, whenever things get going Kirito is always ready to curb stomp it.
4. Personality; Asuna started off as a clueless prodigy, became a badass army leader, got degraded to Princess Peach.
5. Romance; the romance in this show is terribly paced (along with the show having terrible pacing in general) and makes you want to believe that spending time with people in games makes you fall in love with them (including Lisbeth who fell in love with Kirito after knowing him for like 2-3 days).
6. Villains; Akihiko could have been a good villain if we got some good reason as to why he made SAO in the first place, however, he "forgot" his reason for doing any of it. Blond elf fag; The shitty gay cousing of Griffith who cant do anything right.
7. Anything I havent mentioned (except animation, that wasnt absolutely terrible).

i honestly want to see a spinoff of it. takes place in the same timeframe as the original, but it focuses on that fat guy that was pretending to be handsome and older and the skinny loser that was pretending to be a girl. We can see their journey as they begrudgingly set out with each other and then slowly bond. Doesn't have to be gay. Here we see what average players deal with. They might struggle against some random enemies in a forest, get attacked and actually have a hard time defending themselves, etc. There would be that true feeling of hopelessness and they realize they'll only make it out of there if someone else manages to beat the game.

I actually like SAO's depressing moments (Sachi's death, Yolko's "death", Kirito and Asuna's "death" ).
Too bad there's none of that in progressive.

If you can in knowing it was self-insert wishfulfillment bullshit, its actually pretty enjoyable. I really liked Klein, the girls were cute, music was good, and the animation is pretty good as well. You just have to trudge through that terrible romance arc and learn to laugh at Kirito's poorly written character.
GGO had less wish fulfilment, but was really terribly paced and it wasn't as fun, in my opinion. Excalibur arc felt like filler but was okay enough I suppose.
