People say Japan always references Germany and England all the time in anime and manga but is there any reason why Finland is always mentioned quite a bit, too?
Japs love Finns. Nobody quite knows why.
They do have similar climate, both languages make it kinda easy to learn to pronounce the other, and both were kinda made into Axis during WW2... but that's about all I can think of.
nigga, Finland is everywhere!
Besides the nowadays generic as fuck use of (terms like) Valkyries and Valhalla, I don't really recall there being that much Nordic elements in animu.
Meanwhile, we just got an actual Winter War manga.
I like how white death is in the background and has a generic desing and the lips-licking fairy is in front.
Japan just can't stop inserting waifus everywhere, can they? It would have been better if they made him a her and rolled with it.
>both languages make it kinda easy to learn to pronounce the other
But that's true for my country as well and japs don't even know it exists.
I can only find japanese lessons in english and their phonetics just complicate things.
>It would have been better if they made him a her and rolled with it.
That's what they did, sonny.
I can't go past two panels before the cringe overwhelms me goddamn.
The hell is this?
Also I don't actually know any stats but I sometimes feel like we have a very high concentration of people who are into animu and manga.
It's probably not any more than any other country though. Just somehow feels like it sometimes.
Finns loli here.
>Finnish people don't believe in casual conversation. They'll only speak to each other if absolutely necessary
I am Asian so I don't know much about western country. Call me ignorance but is the statement above true? Because if it is, I'll move to Finland no matter what it takes.
It's rare to find a weeb drawn comic that can pass so easily something drawn by a moonlander.
Also, are there really that many blonde finns? I knew a few some years ago and they were all blonde and now this kraut-made series has blondes taking the center too.
There's something about it that makes it seem pretty obvious that it's not a real manga. Maybe it's the shape of the speech bubbles, or the fact that there's hardly any sound effects, but it doesn't really feel right. I guess the characters look pretty convincing though.
 but
Finn here. Yes, quite very many. Not all blonde obviously. There's a fair share of brown of all shades but dark brown or very dark/black is rare here much like fair hair is rare in southern europe.
It's all down to Tove Jansson, OP. Nips just can't get enough of the Moomins.
I was in Helsinki airport a couple of weeks ago and honest to goodness there were whole Japanese tour groups queuing up for photos with a statue.
Japan's bathing culture and Finland's sauna culture are also somewhat similar.
Finnish and Japanese are superficially really similar, and there are a lot of shared words that are pronouned exactly the same.
When the artist has a girl that cute and knows how compose their panels that well I don't think anyone's going to be paying attention to the speech bubbles and sound effects. That said there are mangakas out there who don't make use of much sound effects and have horizontally aligned bubbles for their foreign settings.
>I don't think anyone's going to be paying attention to the speech bubbles and sound effects
