Come appreciate Kyoani!
This actually worked out quite well
They definitely stopped making masterpieces but I'd still say their shows are top tier.
The only one I personally haven't enjoyed post-Hyouka was Eupho.
Never watched Free!, though.
I love Assuka and Savvako because they're really great meganekko!
Thank you based KyouAnus for shitting out something else besides polished turds.
Thank you Kyoani for K-On! Tamako Hyouka Nichijou and Euphonium!
Overrated is flimsy criticism. If you don't like a show that's fine, tastes exist, but many of their shows are beloved for a reason and that's something people ought to understand despite their own differing opinions.
I want to thank KyoAni for blessing us with so many cute boys as well as High Speed.
I liked everything kyoani I watched and pretty much the only series I have left is Free!.
I'm pretty sure I'm not gay, as such I was wondering if it makes sense for me to watch it.
Are the story, visuals and characters enough even if I'm not into boys?
The year is 2018 and Kyoani is the best once again. They learned to adapt better material after Violet Ever Garden. Yamada has been directing a movie every other year since Koe No Katachi thanks to its success. Ishihara was forced to commit seppuku after Phantom World bombed so season 2 of Euphonium turned out a masterpiece. Kyoani found a way!
It's meh and pretty visuals weren't enough for me to not drop it around 5th episode. Unless homo angst and cute boys doing cute things is your thing, you propably won't enjoy it that much. It does look decent, but I don't think it's worth watching for the visuals alone.
Dunno, but Free! seems way more susceptible to this since, you know, it's muscular guys swimming.
Thanks for the answer, I'll keep it in mind. I guess the only way to know is to watch a couple of episodes. If the visuals are at kyoani's standard, at least I won't feel like I wasted time if I'll drop it.
Why are there so many KyoAni threads lately? The battleharem is still too far away to be hyped and they haven't even really done anything recently
I get that they are around often, but not this many
Some single episodes are very well done thanks to the respective episode directors/storyboarders but since the director was both a newcomer and a rabid fujoshi the characterization and story composition suffered from a lot of her decisions.
Cast is likeable, their interactions are entertaining, the water animation looks fantastic and the OST is incredibly good though so if you like KyoAni I'd say try a few episodes to see if it's for you.
>and they haven't even really done anything recently
Answered your own question.
People are just killing time until Phantom airs since it's the only thing we're getting for a while because movie BDs come out like half a year later.
Expected the two best Kyoani characters to come up top on shared 1st place, but the rest of the top charas does surprise me a bit.
You must have been dropped on your head as a baby, time to fix that.
Anime featuring many many delicious christmas cakes and MILFs != anime for pedophiles.
Well, Kyoani also caters to fags like you, there's two seasons of Free!, an OVA and soon to come a movie.
Just finished Hibikek a few minutes ago, had a slow first couple episodes for me but wrapped up surprisingly well. Can't wait for the second season now.
It made me wish I did band in high school. I'm very aware that it wasn't an accurate portrayal of the real thing (my best friend was in it and always told me about the silly shit that went on) but I'm sure it still would've been fun.
Unfortunately, I don't think the series really, really picks up until episode 7 (when all the actual sport stuff happens). There's a lot of team building up until then, and while it's great for people who are very character-driven, it's an awful lot to wade through for casual or only slightly interested viewers...
>Ishihara: I had concern about the running time of episode 8. Until we worked the cutting out, I was thinking "what should we do if it doesn't fit?"
>Yamada: We tried and tried to read producer's mood, right? (laugh)
>Oguro (interviewer): It was an impactive scene Reina's finger touching to Kumiko's lips. Where did the idea come from?
>(Ishihara points Yamada silently.)
>Y: That's all because Kumiko and Reina made the amorous atmosphere up like that!
>O: Ha! Ha! Ha!
As someone who was played euphonium in high school, this anime was 100% accurate besides the yuri.
>Yamada: I got it. I think I didn't portray a so-called straightforward yuri. I want to portray puberty.
>Oguro: Which scene do you mean that?
>Y: Maybe, everything. Everything including "Tamako" and Reina. I wanna portray puberty!
>O: Do you want to portray the feelings of puberty?
>Y: Yes, I want to express that feeling. I'm interested with that girls' way of looking at.
Phantom World is a LN, correct? On Wikipedia it repeatedly describes it simply as a novel, as if intentionally trying to make it out to be more than an anime story without an anime (yet.) I mean I've never heard of literature that says an illustrator's name on the front cover. I shouldn't start expecting something like Hyouka or Euphonium if it's a LN.
Don't really have any hopes for the show in Winter I really just want Euphonium S2 already.
I can't wait long.
Posting best girl.
Ikuya is mine. There are characters like Ikuya, yet Ikuya is mine.
Can't wait for High Speed!
I'm pretty sure Wikipedia isn't trying to "fool" you into thinking it's good. You don't really see the distinction made too often on non-anime websites since we don't really have it. That's like complaining about how jp Wikipedia calls Hunger Games a "novel" instead of a "young adult novel"
>cute comedy instead of snoozefests like Hyouka and Eupho
Sounds fucking great.
Memeing aside, it is their most boring shows.
Hyouka is generally agreed to be the most boring show ever made.
Ishihara is responsible for:
>Nichijou not selling
>making a sequel to Chu-2
>making a battle harem
He's the worst. Just the worst. Why can't Takemoto and Yamada make every show?
Takemoto's done Fumoffu, Amaburi, and the LS OVA. The chuuni gags in Chu-2 were great and I did in fact find Nichijou funny but I wouldn't say it's a clear victory. To my taste I find Takemoto the best.
Oh, I had thought Ishihara was Amaburi as well. Yeah, there's an argument to be had then, though I still think Nichijou is best wrt comedic sense and timing. I haven't seen Fumoffu yet, I have 0 interest in the series.
K-ON S2 is a significant improvement over the first one. The humor is more grounded but better paced. They removed overly odd quirks like Mugi being a yurifag. And excellent direction overall.
You should watch it.
While this was autistic and flamingly homosexual, it's a super memorable scene I suspect I won't forget for a long time. Whether for good or bad reasons, that's something that can't be said often about anime. And in the genga it looks like they have 2 pairs of eyes: anime eyes & Simpsons eyes.
I found this thread which also has no source >>134086353
Thanks for NOTHING SENPAI
I'm dissapointed they're barely marketing Phantom World at all. This is why their sales have been low recently, word of mouth can only do so much and only if the show is actually pretty good. They may have a loyal following but the bigger the viewership, the bigger the number of people willing to buy a show. I doubt the loyal fans can spread the word as much as good marketing. This is probably why their outstanding shows like Hyouka and Hibike start with slow sales and then get a boost, because word of mouth actually worked for those shows since they're so good.
Kyoani will never make something bad as that again.
Based on what anons who visited Kyoto said, I was under the impression their shows are plastered all over trains and signs. What sort of marketing is there normally? A PV was made and that event last month. They haven't had a mega hit like Haruhi, LS, or K-ON! in years so maybe that's why it feels like their spotlight is fading.
Eupho was no masterpiece.
I mean, considering Kyoani reached the pinnacle of anime with K-On!, maybe everything just seems like shit now.
You know the rules. Kyoani's last masterpiece is whatever they did last
When will KyoAni stop killing young talents?
>half the cast disappears halfway through the show
>that pointless love triangle
>self-insert pandering garbage
She has a weird fashion sense.
>people unironically like Satone
>How much did K-On and Free sell?
the K-ON Movie did $1.9 billion in the box office
That's why I doubt the Free movie with beat that.
Maybe it'll be the AnoHana movie which did $1.04 billion
i've been on 4chan for 8 years and i've never watched k-on
unless you hate SoL you really should
>It seems that K-on fans really dislike Euphonium, why?
Do they? I never really noticed any correlation.
However, I did notice that people who love Tamako Market love K-On!
There's also some people who tend to love Hyouka and Eupho but dislike the other Kyoani, but it could just be one guy shitposting. I might even be the guy who just shitposts about Eupho.
Clannad AS 9/10
Haruhi anime 8/10
Disappearance of Haruhi 10/10
Lucky Star 7/10 (it's been a while since I watched it though)
Didn't watch Chuuni, Free or that one with the blood girl
>Greatest of all time, pinnacle of Japanese animation
Lucky Star, Disappearance
Tamako Market, KnK, Clannad
Nichijou, Kanon, Air, Chuuni, Haruhi, Amagi, Tamako Love Story
>im not hopeful
Please, I hadn't enjoyed a comedy that much in a long time.
8: K-On!!, Tamako Love Story, Nichijou, Euphonium
7: Tamako Market, TSR, K-On! Movie
6: K-On!, Haruhi/Disappearance, Lucky Star, Fumoffu, Free S1
3: Kyoukai no Kanata
Dropped: Free S2, Amagi, Clannad
Normally we have at least magazine spreads, all we've gotten for PW is one PV. From what I know, there's been no physical advertising anywhere (these things tend to get spread fairly quickly) or even a CM, judging by the lack of it in KyoAni's YT channel.
One dimensional characters, the interactions weren't very exciting, the mysteries were so pointless and dull that you are better off just turning off the subs and watching the animation porn.
Remember how boring the first couple episodes of Lucky Star was? Its basically that, but never got better, unlike Lucky Star.
The plot is the worst part about Hyouka because it's always some completely boring blown way out of proportion. The character interaction which is what we all usually agree is the best part is essentially no different than what CGDCT shows are entirely about.
Amagi, K-On!!, Tamako Market
Haruhi, K-On! Disappearance, Chuuni, Nichijou, Tamako Love Story, K-On! movie
>dropped but it wasn't even that bad
>dropped because it was boring
This guy knows how to enjoy anime.
They're not. Chitanda is as one-dimensional as it gets, Mayaka is just an otaku, Satoshi is jealous because he can't be boring Sherlock Holmes and Oreki is lazy for the sake of it to the point it's unbelievable
Oreki is literally Kirito-tier self-insert pandering garbage. Chitanda's entire character is summed up her catch phrase.
I don't even remember Mayaka's and Satoshi's character because of how unremarkable they were.
Oreki wasn't simply a self-insert, especially near the end. Why would you self-insert into a character that has noticeable flaws like him?
I agree Chitanda was pretty flat for most of the show except in the latter half.
>Satoshi and Mayaka were unremarkable.
This is how I know you didn't understand their characters.
Its not that he has flaws, its the flaws that edgy highschoolers think they have so they can identify with Oreki and mentally masturbate to the thought of an ojou-sama like Chitanda getting into their face because of how smart they are.
>This is how I know you didn't understand their characters.
I can understand characters and forget about them. I just forget about the more boring ones.
I'm convinced KyoAni doesn't draw their backgrounds anymore. It looks like they take pictures and apply filters enough so that they look like drawings.
I didn't mean it in a bad way, it's just that some of their backgrounds are so good and well drawn that they almost look like they could have been photographs.
Yeah, I freaked out when I saw the IRL version of the high school in K-ON. They had the music room, stair sculptures and a lot of other things really accurate
> Ogura: I thought Tamako Market had yuri.
> Yamada: Aah, is that so. I bet you're talking about Midori.
> Ogura: Yep.
> Ishihara: Right. She was the real thing there. (laugh)
> Yamada: You think so?
> Ishihara: I mean, guys don't really want their yuri to get that serious.
Well fuck you too Ishihara.
He made them joke lesbians. That's why he got so up in Yamada's face about Tamako Market in that interview: he saw Midori as リアル and ガチ and apparently that (depicting Midori's same-sex love as serious instead of a joke) bugs the hell out of him.
>Ishihara: I mean, guys don't really want their yuri to get that serious.
So Ishihara has been the one stopping real yuri from happening recently.
Eupho2 is going to be full of jokeLesbians again.
Anyone past 20 I don't really care about so I just left them out.
Couldn't make it through Hyouka, hated everyone; but I watched the first episode of Amagi yesterday, having not seen it since it finished and its still gorgeous & funny as hell. Friend who never saw it agreed and is picking it up. Plus, it has the sexiest girl ever animated, Fifty Sento
>>half naked little boys everywhere
This is why Japan is so based.
You could cut the sexual tension in the air with a butterknife.
Also, I've never seen this mentioned anywhere. Latifah literally needed anime to survive
Hell, I don't care if it's for Arbor Day, I just want to see that.
So many good memories from this studio alone.
>Couldn't make it through Hyouka, hated everyone
I actually liked that each character had something to dislike about them; it was refreshing, given how ridiculously moe everyone usually is. Not that I have any complaints about that either.
Why is Kyoani so good at making background waifu material?
I don't see why or how the fans of these three studios don't/can't get along.
They're all incredible.
Minus a black sheep or two, every single thing each has ever touched is just fantastic.
If you like one but not the others you're an irrational inconsistent faggot.
>Minus a black sheep or two, every single thing each has ever touched is just fantastic.
Saying that is a big stretch, but I'd agree that a lot of what those studios put out is at least watchable.
Huh, apparently Kyoani boys are better than the girls
I really need to watch FMP
who is the best looking Kyoani girl and why is it Asuka?
Irisu, Kaho, Sawakiguchi, or Midori from Hyouka.
After that I'd say Mirai, Tamako from TLS, Tomoyo, and Rikka.
Then Reina and Mitsuki,
Other than that I don't care because I'm gay.
try harder faggot
Also Chitanda is top tier when she's in her rich-girl mode and not hyper.
She isn't even the best looking in her show. My vote:
She's pretty cute when drawn in detail.
I like how all the thick lines fit perfectly in her face. Like in the last screen of pic related. The lines are just so perfect and Mirai's design, with blush lines and thick glasses, as well as big eyes, makes all the line art fit pretty well and symmetrically. In other words, I like that it's not bland at all and doesn't leave much blank space.
>“Auto Memories Doll.” It’s already been a long time since that name was first popularized. It’s a machine that Dr. Orlando created that talks in a natural voice. At first, he only made it to help out his loving wife, but before long they spread out into the world. and companies were made to lend them out.
>“We’re the Auto Memories Doll service place that comes running anywhere you wish. We’re Violet Evergarden.”
That translucent voice comes from a robotic beautiful girl with blonde hair and blue eyes like she came out of a storybook.
>The first Grand Prize winner from the 5th Kyoto Animation Awards is being published as two novels! (Novel 1 by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase is released December 25, 2015)
>Victorian Plastic Memories
>non highschool setting
how do you think the anime is going to turn out?
Will /a/ complain about something anyway?
>Any PA Works thread
>people either angry about True Tears 10 years later, circlejerking NnA, asking for Shirobako s2
how come Uchouten Kazoku is so underrated even among PA Work fans?
violet is a color that Kyoani seems to be very good with
Probably BECAUSE they're PA Works fans. Look at their other shows, do you think they made a fanbase fit for Uchouten Kazoku? Although lately I've seen a lot more recognition in PA threads when asked what their best work is. As for non-PA Works fans, it just wasn't very known at first, but it's grown a bit by now and the general consensus is that it's very good, although it's still pretty obscure. There are some people that dislike it but those people will always exist.
I can't tell because I'm colorblind, but I do like the way I see it, even if I can't exactly tell it's violet. KyoAni makes beautiful palettes that even I can appreciate and I like that a lot. I don't mind the filters.
Yes I'm aware pic related is pink, not violet, but it's just an example of color direction I like.
I already hate it. It doesn't matter if they're self-published, LN adaptations are the cancer killing anime. If an author had anything more than animeshit to write they wouldn't go to Kyoani to get it published.
Maybe they just want to make a name for themselves. KyoAni is pretty popular, and getting an anime by them would give the author some recognition. If you publish with someone else, there's no guarantee your work will be known, much less a hit. With someone with as much following, viewership, and a low number of titles like KyoAni, your work could stand out more, specially if it's their very first Grand Prize after like 5 or 6 years of honorable mentions. The promised anime would be the cherry on top to make your name more widespread.
I dunno, that's just what I think.
That isn't checkered. But still, KyoAni always do this. The skirts in Chuunibyou, for example. Call KyoAni anything you want but cheap they aren't.
Why does kyoani stuff feel so dull?
I'm halfway through hyouka right now and the only time I've come close to dropping it like 3 times. I just watch an episode or two before I go to bed because it makes me drowsy.
It's the same case for hibike euphonium but I haven't watched past episode 4.
They basically only do stuff set in a high school, and there's never really anything beyond interpersonal drama at stake.
You can do really compelling stories in those sorts of settings, but KyoAni adapts a lot of really subpar LNs.
A lot of effort is put into their shows, sure. I don't think anyone would deny that KyoAni has some of the best production values in the business.
I don't want to see the disappointment if it turns out not to be victorian style, I mean the description says that the girl is supposed to look like out of a storybook, so maybe it's modern and she's supposed to look out of place. I mean, the buildings in the background, the typewriter keys, and the envelopes do hint otherwise but anything could happen.
KnK easily has the best character designs out of any Kyoani show.
Not that anon, but Amagi's character designs are a bit too garish and mascoty for my tastes. Obviously this is because the characters are actually mascots, but that's beside the point.
Would you rather Kyo-Ani make another Haruhi film or another season?
Because it's my favorite show.
Take a gander at this then tell me it's hand painted. Anime is famous for corner cutting. I've seen plenty of blatant shooped photographs in the airing Yuru Yuri season so it's not unheard of.
An animator's life is not easy.
This is obviously not a photograph, you can tell by the uneven lines on the left row. What they did was draw a couple packages then copy/pasted it all over to make it looked like a packed aisle.
Thank you based Kyoani for giving us your first all-boys masterpiece!
I wish they had 10 pictures, also deciding is hard.
People said already but this is really KyoAni's magnum opus.
I haven't seen anything from their works that could really be on par with this scene.
Hibike's had some good moments with Kumiko running on the bridge. That was also great but nowhere near as greatly crafted as this scene.
Considering how their production was fucked up at that time for having K-ON and Haruhi air at the same damn time and them getting flack for E8. It's a damn miracle they pulled this movie off. This scene had everything. Great musical timing, Outstanding storyboarding, Stellar Animation, and most important of all, probably Sugita's monumental line delivery.
I hope Koe no Katachi delivers. The source material is much more heavier in terms of all the shows they've handled. If Yamada doesn't tone it done too much and actually makes the character more human then we can have ourselves a really good adaptation. The manga at time got blown out of proportion so I hope they change those. Really though, I'm just waiting for that god damn Balcony scene.
The Khara of TV Anime.
Jesus Christ. People give KyoAni too much shit for doing SoL but SHAFT hasn't done anything that good except for Bake and Madoka. And these two are even getting milked to death already. I liked those shows but damn they're just going on forever.
Kinda felt the same now for LL since Season 1 was pretty memorable and more meaningful. When I look at it, it's the same for K-ON. Had Yamada bit the S3 offer by Pony Canyon, my appreciation for the show would diminish gradually.
>There are people who don't think Euphonium is the best KyoAni TV anime ever made
So I guess there absolutely 0% chance of KyoAni releasing a perverted official crossover image of Azusa, Latifa and Ai together?
God damn it. This pairing should just. FUCK
Gonna be Deko x Nibutani again with 0 moments.
TSR so far 7/10
Haruhi 2006 8/10
