Kaworu isn't a monster nor he wanted to destroy humanity. He only followed humanity wishes: Seele's. Because he had no exposure to anyone else before he met Shinji. He loved lilin even before meeting Shinji, he valued everything he did.

That was the irony. Humans were trying to destroy themselves using angels because they hate their own humanity while the mother of angels (Adam) had fallen in love and thought their existence was worthy to die for them.

Because the show follows a fairly simple progression that tries to convey feelings of anxiety and depression through other, comprehensible forms? i.e. how the characters react/deal with their environment and the themes of the setting itself.

Also because Evangelion deals with feelings of manic depression, rather than the depression portrayed in NHK which is environmental and thus far easier resolved. In Evangelion, the answer (the solution to all Shinji's problems) feels distant, almost unachieveable and without real form, his victory (peace) is more of a state of mind than a palpable achievement, where as in the NHK, Satou would, in theory, resolve a lot of his problems by simply realising his own desires and reconnecting with society rather hiding away in his room, all he as to do is take proactive steps.

I'm not saying that moving out of the NEET lifestyle is easy but on the other hand, Shinji risks his life on a daily basis without any obvious recompense and no real motivation to keep on fighting, even if he does 'succeed' he has no friends, no family, no ambition to fill that void. Which is analogous to (manic) depression, everything seems hopeless at the best of times and you don't even know if the sun will rise tomorrow but somehow, you keep tanking on, you slowly start to thaw, maybe, make friends and gain confidence, like Shinji eventually did (in his own awkward way) and eventually come to the realisation that life might be okay, that you do want to live (if you're lucky to make it that far).

The right pills also help a lot though.

I think Kaworu is more complex than that and that's why these guys got attached. He's basically the perfect tragic supernatural girlfriend in mecha. But a guy. I think Anno wanted to be literal with romantic love in a Freudian sense: romantic love to Freud is the pursuit of the idealization of your own self reflected in others. Love develops since your childhood and when you seek your partner, you're supposedly looking for the things you wanted in yourself but lacked. Anno literally created Kaworu to be the ideal Shinji: his concept of love in flesh. That's why Kaworu says in EoE he's the "words I love you" in his heart.

There are other sci-fi elements that could be brought up, but, despite being Adam mother of angels, Kaworu was made to be Shinji's perfect soulmate. These fags self inserted, but self inserted actually appropriately because they got what Shinji actually felt rather than push their feelings onto the guy.

None of that is Adam's or Lilith's doing. Adam was raped by Seele and exploded into an impact, later Seele picked up Kaworu to brainwash him into their kool aid. Nerv did a similar shit to Lilith who was slumbering and crippled.

Adam and Lilith are beings that nurture life. Without them, there is no life.

Human, angels are just recycle souls of the same fucking place that they have given a different shell, but they are the same shit.
