Because Key literally forced KyoAni into adaptioning the designs as close as possible to their own.
There's a documentary on youtube of the making of Kanon, and the director is making a fuss about how Key wanted the designs to look exactly the same in the anime.

Why isn't there an exec or someone with money who prevents shit art styles from making it into anime? Isn't too much at stake to be faithfully adapting amateurish drawings? All the Ufotable type-moon stuff needs to be remastered as well because of rhinos, and I'm certain there was big money at stake there.

I didn't mind it after the first couple of minutes (it took longer for the VN, but ultimately I stopped disliking it there too). It's very much an acquired taste, but considering it was good enough for most of its fans, I see no reason for it to be changed in a potential future remaster just for the sake of non-fans.

Far from it. Even with her having a good number of positive traits, she's one of the most immature and least emotionally developed characters in the main cast. She is completely incapable of looking past herself, being blind to what those around her both want and need, which, in spite of her efforts, makes her little more than a social menace and quickly alienates many of those around her.

Loyalty may be great, but blind faith can make you unable to take or dish out any sort of criticism, which stops you from growing as a person. It's certainly not helped by her extreme stubbornness either.

As for the first 3 traits, Kyou has them in copious amounts as well, while also being far more socially apt. Tomoyo's unassuming nature is good only for when she wants to keep people at a certain distance, and is thus no match for Kyou's natural people-centric intuition and her desire to get involved.
