I know it's the cool thing to shit on 00, but one thing I will say is that in the first season I really enjoyed how each of the main 4 Gundam filled a particular role (Marksman, Brawler, etc.). One of the weaknesses of S2 for me was that Exia became over-powered and made the others feel rather redundant.

Turn A was absolutely fantastic. If we're talking Mobile Suits, Exia is up there. Not as big a fan of the 00/Raiser. Zeta, X and God are also cool.

I like ZZ but having the three separate parts, often with Roux or Beecha or whoever piloting, necessary to assemble it each time got tedious while watching. Especially when they were just left to their own devices after Judau docked. The time where they were left in the double beam rifle was a nice way to go against that but rarely again after that.

I feel like the three components was done better with Victory, especially with how Uso had no issue with using the individual parts as methods of attack.

Though the time where Judau partially separated it to get a hit in was ace. As a whole, the suit is nice and HUGE.

Well, Exia did show up, upgraded, at the finale.
I thought the 00 itself was adequately powered, but the Raiser was just fucking stupid, and it didn't even look good, to me. Now, 00 Seven Sword with that massive Buster Sword? Muh dick.

I would've liked the Raiser gimmick if it was like a nexus for the Meister's GN Drives something, like it needed all the Gundams present in "close" proximity or something to function, and then functioned like an even better Trans Am, but was wholly dependent on all 4 Gundams being operational and together.

Its a God Gundam from the 'Battle Scarred' line. Basically a line of repaints with a few parts remolded to appear battle damaged and weathered. These were all over the shelves near the end of Gundams popularity in the US. I believe unpopular toys like this clogging stores was a large part of Gundams eventual decline in the states.

Wing is the Ace undoubtly but few Gundam are as satisfying to see in battle as the HeavyArms. Such direct approach, such Termiantor-like brutality and even a small secret knife to take lives up close. Its fights are always a feast to the eyes.

I like IBO better than Reco, but it's undeniable Tomino makes great fights. IBO looks okay and the fights aren't garbage but they're not visually interesting. The most fun parts have been with the CG ships to be honest.

Yeah, the choreography has been pretty nifty, the framing of the suits is really nice--not too close, not too far--but it looks like they forgot to draw half of the in-between frames.

After being burned some any times, I always let the series go on for a while before watching it.

The last two series I enjoyed were G-Reco and Build Fighters. I quit Build Fighters Try mid-way, AGE started off decentish, and went downhill. I enjoyed it, but I can see why people would hate it.
Gundam 00 S1 was great, but I wasn't fond of S2's direction at all, and the series had too many characters that it wasn't willing to let go of.

I still can't wrap my head around how GSD became so terrible. I don't know how you gather all this talent and create an amateur's product. The use of stock footage in this series is almost criminal.
I would have at least been satisfied somewhat if the last battle was any good.

Fukada's is the same type of director as Okada. The life blood of their writing style is FORCED DRAMA. Characterization takes a back seat to what will get the biggest reaction out of the audience or what will get the audience to pay the most money

The episode 7/8 (I forgot) launch was good but rushed/lazy. It feels like they just used the parts that gets reused a lot for episodes instead of the full animated launch sequence. What we got I liked though, especially the music, it sounded like the main battle theme from episodes 1-3 except more space-y instead of mars-y.

I also like that mika has a launch phrase now, I forget how he said it in japanese but it sounds cool.

I've been waiting for a thread like this so I can talk about 00. Specifically, I don't understand the hate for A Wakening of the Trailblazer. I just binged the whole series and I thought the movie was a wonderful conclusion.

I felt like there was a lot of ramp-up needed for the series to really hit its stride (thing didn't really get interesting until the Thrones showed up). Season 2 was a thriller - the fight against the giant space laser WMD and the destruction of the orbital elevator were fucking HYPE episodes. Ribbons Almark was lame as could be, though. He was just the same old "guide humanity under my rule blah blah" generic villain as that douchebag from season 1 whom he ironically insulted for being just that.

But the movie blew me away. I loved it. It was definitely more tense than anything before - watching people get assimilated by the ELS was pretty raw. There were some serious Diebuster "humanity is fucked, it's all or nothing" vibes.

Yes, the show's (and especially the movie's) message about "understanding" felt pretty forced, and it probably could have been more subtly hinted at throughout the entirety of the series rather than preached nonstop as it neared its end, as if the writers only just figured out what kind of story they were trying to tell after the series was pretty much done.

But I think a completely foreign alien species was a cool way to get that point across in the end. I didn't think the whole "holy shit aliens" was a bad move. It was hinted at throughout both seasons if you were paying attention. I actually thought it was a pretty bold move for them to take it that far - from political/military sci-fi to this. It made Aeolia Schenberg's plan seem that much more grand. It felt like an optimistic take on Stanislaw Lem's "Solaris".

Anon I liked it too, 00 is really silly and too many people take it serious. The giant space flower was silly but that's because the whole show was silly. Also the final boss is Jupiter, fucking Jupiter, the only villain who could surpass fucking Ribbons. (he has Amuro's VA if you didn't notice) Overall it's one of the best AU's, really worth watching IMO.

Neither do I.

I mean the whole Plan was a straight riff on Psychohistory, but the problem with comparing it to Solaris is that it had too many characters distracting from the core story, whereas Solaris is incredibly personal. If they had spent more time on the aliens and CB's interaction with them it probably would've been lot better. The ayy lmaos were foreshadowed, yes, but they never felt threatening because you just knew that Setsuna was gonna win. The tension could've been a lot better if they hadn't crammed the bulk of the MS action into the latter half of the show. Ultimately, it's a story that doesn't do anything creative (at least outside of Gundam) and there's many shows that did what it did better. Now that isn't to say you can't have a show that rehashes things be done well, but AWotT fails to blaze any sort of trail or use play up the tropes to their potential.

Also the way S2 ends with them riding off into the sunset is tops.

Since you mention those, AwotT feels like an entire season of one of those shows crammed into a 2 hour movie.

Basically my problem with AwotT is that it just fell short of everything it could've been. It wouldn't have taken much to trim the fat.

Also that fucking terrible Maximum Overdrive sequence with Mari and Al.
Also Qan[T] was ugly.
If anyone hasn't seen Maximum Overdrive, I highly recommend it as it's remarkably therapeutic in the sense that no matter how badly you fuck up, it won't be as bad as it.

I did like Graham's charge though.

Can't argue that. I just liked what they were going after, which is usually what I take away from any series. I'm very forgiving. It ended on a solid note IMO but I honestly think a good number of whole episodes could have been cut. Pacing and character bloat was definitely a glaring issue that I had to slog through.

At least in 00 S2 CB and Setsuna actually suffer some setbacks even when they go all out, like the Raiser sword not stopping the MM 2. Qan[T] just breezed through and spammed its funnel crap, which is exceedingly boring and stopped being cool in CCA.
