>This is what people outside of /a/ actually believe
When were you when anime became mainstream?
>LotGH level 1
Definitely made by 4chan
Almost everything on the right side is good, if you think otherwise chances are good, you're a pleb.
Quite some stuff on the left side is good as well, though. If you think otherwise chances are good you're a hipster.
Rose of Versailles is basic shoujo, and Giant Robo's the most iconic OVA of the 90s but, yeah, the person who made that almost definitely didn't watch even half of the shows on the right.
Accurate, really. It's a journey through gateway animes, through watching more, developing taste in more ambitious anime to finally not giving a fuck about taste and enjoying stuff for what it's worth.
Well not to say that any of the older shows are bad, looking at the caption, it is heavily implying that the person who determined which shows were shit or not, must be watching all these at the same time.
If it WAS an oldfag they would have already heard of these shows and seen them a long time ago. Instead, we have this person "wading through the shit" of modern anime, to watch "the good stuff" some of which aren't even that great, but probably just expected to be great because the only people who still talk about them are the one's who remember those shows are the ones still praising them today.
tl;dr yeah there's an age gap, but it doesn't mean that the guy who wrote it isnt being pretentious
I feel like I skipped the third and fourth stuff. Back when I learned exactly how varied anime as a medium is, I just started to enjoy shows for their own merits without trying to be judgemental.
That's easly it's biggest mistake. It should be in level 3, as should Monster and Paprika.
Sailor Moon being level 2 is appropriate, as while tons of people have heard of it or watched random episodes, the kinds of people who actually get into it are typically going to be beyond the surface level of weebdom.
It's still a pretty casual (intro) series.
It's even on one of the top 100 lists on MAL so it's obviously not unknown or obscure and the number of people who throw it out as a rec also.
I find it weird how they put generic moe shit as filling up lvl7, and Idolshit at lvl6 but having something as fucking weird as cat soup at 5
Do normies really view moeshit as THAT depraved?
I mean most normal people look at random pictures of semi-exposed chicks all fucking day talking about how hot that chick is or some garbage right?
But it really isn't, when have you EVER seen some random faggot walking around with some LOtGH product on their body?
We could also simply have different definitions about what qualifies as casual though, would you mind telling me what you view as casual so I can better understand your point?
See, that's the problem.
Today's entry level is shingeki no kyojin, yesterdays was naruto, before that was sailor moon, and logh.
Shakespeare problem, when shit gets old, it becomes classic.
>Image re-saved and re-uploaded so many times on various social media platforms that the image itself is just a garbled mess of artifacts
Normalfags truly have no quality control
For the typical modern fan? Yeah, pretty obscure. At least, in American, as I heard he's still pretty big in spic and some European countries.
Just ask all the casuals bitching about how 'old anime wasn't filled with ecchi shit like today'. They'll barely know about Go Nagai. Hell, I barely see his name come up when threads on /a/ discuss the above bs about old ecchi.
>Despite it airing on Toonami/Adult Swim (I don't know which) and having a simulicast release in English, sometimes before the nip audio drops, is considered by this poster to be level 4.
Don't get me wrong, it's fantastic, but not really obscure by any means.
>Early-2000s shows you've never seen anyone mention
>mfw I'm Tier 5 because I watched Gakuen Senki Muryo.
Don't they sometimes just take screenshots of screenshots of pictures
>not sharing memes with your phone camera
Don't you know what year it is?
Final level is a three way road. You either get into manga exclusively, leave everything and become a normalfag, or ascend to watching dorama like a true patrician.
(note that in the third option you don't stop watching anime)
The format itself is wrong. There should be a tier for people who really only watch currently airing anime, people who mainly read only manga, and people who only watch older shows. There are tons of demographics not represented here.
Dear god, you just made me realize there someone out there copying pictures, putting the, into an editor them saving the, that way like some demented grandpa using IE to Yahoo his google mail.
While that's not entirely true, it's close. It's like saying that all vegans are pretentious hipsters. Obviously that's not true, but the statement has some weird validity to it.
Ok sweeping statement Simon.
Tbh a more "normie" thing to do is generalize people all the time. It shows how fragile your sense of identity is, it hinges on being superior to others.
Some recc lists are quite helpful.
>>rape, gore, murder are normie things
Your thoughts are garbage, why do you persist to post them? For other people to kek at?
That's must explain why shows like Elfen Lied or Mirai Nikki are popular among normalfags.
>But it really isn't, when have you EVER seen some random faggot walking around with some LOtGH product on their body?
I haven't seen that for anything but DBZ.
I agree LotGH isn't remotely casual, but still, that not a good indicator
Shounenshit, moeshit, idolshit and other extremly easy to watch stuff are on level 1.
Everything that doesn't fit with level 1 but is still quite easy to comprehend is level 2.
2deep4me is level 3.
You have to think of all the reddit people. I personllay know a kid (5 years younger than me) who is lurking on reddit. He came to me with angles egg, and how I should watch it. He didn't know any anime lower than level 4. So this chart is absolutely accurate.
>anime from genres of the hugest popularity right now in the anime industry like idol anime and moe anime
Holy shit, this shit is hilarious. I can see the bitter /a/ virgin right before my eyes. Making this chart and wanting to prove that his shit taste is the obscure thing that is most away from the mainstream because everytime he feels that he isn't a special snowflake he is cutting his wrists.
Because gore is edgy and liking edgy things is what make you normie.
So what you're saying is that the less used genres are more mainstream than the popular genres.
What's funny is that you're using /v/ argumentation by being irrational, bitter and clingy to feeling right and approved, and still you're accusing me of being /v/.
I love how 4chan is obsessed about quality, although now is shit the elitism is what I love the most when coming here /a/
what's this faggot trying to tell us?
It's funny how fascinated outsiders are with /a/ when the board is really just chock full of idiots with shit taste.
And I'm not talking about SnK or Tokyo Ghoul or A.Z posters. I'm talking about the idiots who watch cutesy "girly" shows "ironically" and/or to get their dick hard and make sexist jokes over them.
A sane human being should be able to enjoy any high-quality show for its own merits, unless it's simply not their thing of course. I love Gekkan Shoujo, K-On!, Fate/Zero, and Cowboy Bebop just as much as Nichijou, Yuru Yuri, and Non Non Biyori, for utterly different reasons of course. (Actually why are Gekkan and K-On! there, they fit in more with the latter group. Fate/Zero and Cowboy Bebop would be better examples of "normie" stuff, no? Anyway I don't even know, the whole normie/elitist stuff is just ridiculous.)
Well there's some truth to that. NNB and YRYR are the only anime I haven't dropped from this year.
With plot anime your standards increase the more of it you watch but this doesn't happen with SoL.
Well, if that chart is about anime casuals in the west then you just proved it's point.
You can't even see a moe show without sperging out since your power level is too low, crossboarder-kun.
If you say idol shit isn't popular you are an idiot. It is the most popular genre in Japan at the moment
It was named Yuri Yuri, though, I'm one of those who remembers it like that. Apparently there was a timeline shift, and since season 3 it's a Yuru Yuri for some reason. Google a Nelson Mandela effect.
>beyond level 5
>trash that is just there to satisfy your dick
In a sense the pic is true. If you're a corrupted horny little shit with no control or self respect and have replaced your brain with your dick you're basically bottom of the barrel.
Anime is so young and exclusive to japan and expensive to produce and mostly secluded to a specific audience.
Manga can reach level 4, but I don't see anime ever going beyond 3.
I mean that there are opinions on here that the chart is accurate with Love Live being at the bottom just proves it.
I'm thinking about how boring it must be to be involved in the production of anime.
You need a sizeable budget to do anything spanning 12 episodes or more, and you rely on a tiny audience to buy your BDs at ridicilous prices.
No one wants to take any risks in that environment.
I know, right? Especially as an animator you will get treated like literal trash and get paid less than a part timer.
As an animator why wouldn't you just make manga or in this day and age you could just use your skills for some job on the internet to make a living.
It would be better if they used the colorists in anime studios exclusively for manga and break into an age where colorized manga becomes a lot more common.
Can someone post the rec list of fake anime/anime inside anime like Meru Meru from Oreimo? That list was hilarious but I didn't save it.
That's just recommend anime it's not fitting any standards or are you looking to have your tastes validated? If so most of the stuff there are pretty entertaining I didn't finish looking at it tho, most of them are pretty well known
I watched the Tsukihime anime and thought it was good. Then I read the Arcueid route that was adapted in the anime and thought it was shit and gained more appreciation for the anime. How hardcore am I?
The first anime I saw were shit like Onizuka and Utena.
How is the Brave series obscure? There's a massive reference to it in Neptunia.
How the fuck are high school and college projects so low? Who hasn't seen them? They are literally on Youtube for you to watch, and why wouldn't you do shit like see Annos work?
>mfw I realized that Lain essentially predicted the future when I finished watching it a few months back for the first time.
I don't understand.
What is moeshit exactly?
Aria is moe, but it's never called shit.
Somebody please help me understand this term that is thrown around so loosely on this messageboard.
If you don't like something you accuse people of only liking it because its moe.
Pic related moeshit
No problem. I hate when you watch something and learn a few episodes in its moeshit. Pic related, I thought Berserk was supposed to be manly
Because this image has 1 million of Facebook shares, anime is mainstream in western?
>It's literally ten in the morning
Holy cancer. What shithole are you from so we can tell the UN to secretly tell the US there's oil there so we can bomb you.
Half of the stuff on the left is great.
half of the stuff on the right is heavily overrated.
Saying one side is absolutely better than the other just because it suits your niche, elitist taste is dumb.
It's not trolling, this came from a facebook post of an "LOL NARUTO IS SO EPIC, OMG ANIME IS SO COOL I WANNA GO TO JAPAN" type of individual sharing this to show their "anime cred"
You had a small error there.
Here you go.
No it isn't?
I am really knowledgeable about jokes, you know?. I am a famous joke writer for a radio show, you probably know me.
But even though I can understand the deep, fundamental logic of humor, I still can't find a single good aspect about Poo-tan. It's shit.
It is rather accessible for people not used to animu, and so are for example Cowboy Bebop and Berserk.
On the other hand, I wouldn't say that this is true for SAO, or hell, bloody K-On!
This list is weird, does he mean how well known something is? Or how common it is to have watched something? Most people not much into animu will never even hear about LotGH, but probably about Cowboy Bebop and certainly about NGE.
>I wouldn't say that this is true for SAO
I don't really know why, with all the rapebaiting and incest shit, but it is. I've seen people who haven't watched anime since middle school bring it up.
>All these people using 'normie' unironically
edge and chunnibyou are incredibly common these days
people who don't like them are often from the other insanely segregated camp of SJWs
Extremism is crushing intellectual discourse and is rendering people into robots.
its just about power level according to /a/ with some random trolls put in
You'dneed multiple charts to use to contrast various routes of adoption and exposure... ie generational gap, popular website
trawling for google searches #s would be the easiest and probably most accurate
>not the greatest anime ever made
> Yuru Yuri
>watch a single short from Anime Expo or Daikon III/IV
>automatically put in the deepest tier of that chart
I can't understand why this thread has survived more than 10 minutes
>OreImo is closer to the surface than HxH, and much higher than CCS and GTO that are for some reason in Tier 4
>5 cm per second is fucking twice in the list at two different levels
Yeah, this makes no sense
How many people do you know who's watched any Takahata films other than Grave of the Fireflies? Most people think Ghibli = Miyazaki and even then he has some more obscure films.
No, levels 6 and beyond are for a reason.
Once you've started watching MUH CUTE GIRLS DOING CUTE THINGS, you've went past the point of no return.
You turn into a fat neckbeard that shitposts your waifu 24/7 on an ethiopian cave painting board, amassing hundreds to thousands of reaction images of fictional blobs.
Society would sooner shun those kinds of creatures than the edgelords (levels 3-5).
>right: hipster shit no ones seen
Who hasn't seen Lupin?
Ok guys so I work for a living and I don't have a lot of time to watch anime, but I REALLY love these shows. How would you rank me in between pleb tier and downright outcast I'm 26 btw.
Oreimo, Arc-V, Pokemon XY/Z, Kill la Kill, Monogatari Series.
Also I have like 7 Kirino figures that cost me $400+ each in my room, but everything else in the room is normal.
It's not about being tough to follow, it's about the fact that a show not legally available in English for decades clearly isn't any sort of equivalent for Naruto or Sailor Moon.
Anime has been mainstream since 2010, which coincidentally is the same year this board became irrelevant and indistinguishable from AnimeSuki and MAL.
2007 is when nerd culture became popular among the masses, also coincidentally when The Big Bang Theory first aired and iphones, anime and manga are seen as "slightly nerdy" among the normals.
Everything is just going downhill now
There is always that one guy who thinks with rules written in books and has a cognitive dissonance every time someone doing things in not the one ultimately right way.
Like "OH GOSH, GUYS YOU COME HERE TO LEARN, HOW CAN YOU JUST SLEEP?"
Or "I HAVE ONLY "A"s IN MY DIPLOM, HOW CAN I BE NOT SMART AND GENIUS?"
While I've seen a lot of lists, and this is probably the best one, I don't know what the fuck Gundam is doing at those depths. Wing at the very least belongs in Tier 1, with anything else that was on Toonami at 2, and the rest at 3. Anything past that should be shit like MS IGLOO. There's also a lot of more recent seasonal shit that's in 4 that could be bumped up to 3. Hell, Samurai Flamenco is on fucking Netflix, and anyone who's at Tier 2 has probably had some contact with GuP.
Overall, 7.5/10 list. Decent.
Not the school kind of nerd, I meant the interest group sort of nerd. All the big nerdy hobbies are steadily becoming much more mainstream. There used to be hobbies that immediately conjured up the image of quiet kids with pockmarks for most people, and I don't know if there are anymore.
r8 h8 my b8
I've been lurking for a good bit now, but my power level isn't near where I want it to be. Also, I have Madoka crossed out and on the backlog because I've seen the movies (the now ex-gf wanted to watch those) and I need to see the TV version still.
>none of these plebs have watched Azumanga Daioh
not bad, JJBA and HxH used to be obscure in the general sense but that is no longer true, CCS, Big O, Tenchi, Gundam, Eureka 7, were all too low. Basically most shows that aired on early toonami, Kids WB, or Fox should be in entry level.
