I don't think the Pokemon dub was superior, to be honest. In regards to music, yes - the english openings rocked. But the movies were much better in original (especially the first one, the lesson they tried to teach was much less hypocritical), and I'm not a fan of dubs trying to over-simplify plotlines and cut out "inappropriate" gags. Not to mention the westernization - I get it that young children wouldn't understand what an onigiri is and might have problems pronouncing japanese names, but some of the changes are just unnecessary and ruin the immersion.
As for the dubs which were better than the original, I can only rememberv that one time in Shaman King, where the plot of a dubbed episode (the Faust one from the tournament arc) had a better resolution - it was one of these rare instances where simplifying a plot made for a better overall impression. The rest of the dub was worse than the original, though.
Also, Yu-Gi-Oh dub had a better opening, hands down - it fit the atmosphere much more than that generic J-rock.

The message of the original Japanese version was about how all lifeforms, even artificially created ones, are still equal and that neither the clones nor the real Pokemon are superior over the other. 4kids changed this into a generic fighting is wrong message and added in an unfitting pop song to the fight scene near the end.

One thing to put in perspective though is that there was a lot of controversy surrounding Pokemon in the US at the time with religious groups and the like complaining about Pokemon being demons and stupid shit like that. It could've just been that 4kids was pressured into adding that fighting is wrong message so that they would have less bullshit from those people to deal with.

If you've never seen the movie subbed, I highly recommend doing so. It's a much better experience than watching the dub.
