I understand they wanted to change the formula instead of repeating the first season again, but their new recipe hasn't half good as the first season one. And yet it had been a decent series if they hadn't dropped the ball so hard in the last couple of episodes.

I think people hate S2 just because they wanted a repeat of S1 except with more overt Hei/Yin romance. S2 was good but was half as long as it should have been. They pissed around in the middle and wasted time on episodes that didn't build the plot enough and then had to rush to the ending.

S2 was bad because of the"OMG Eva" ending, depressed sulky-ass hobo-Hei, all the Suo angst bullshit, and the piss poor writing.

It's really surprising to me that over the years people have come to accept it as "good", because the writing was lazy as fuck..

It's ok and harmless.

I don't see how either is bad writing. Hei's waifu went full death god, Suou's family is dead/missing and she's now a contractor, etc. Made perfect sense for their characters. And it's not really an Eva ending, unless you mean you didn't get it then that's on you.

It's one of my favourites, and I think it always will be. I really didn't like season 2 at first, but when I rewatched it able to see past my frustration at Hei being sidelined it was actually decent. But there are so many loose ends. So many.

Mao was actually given his backstory arc in Gemini. It's one of the things I liked about S2, since in S1 everyone had flashback arcs for themselves except for Mao whose past we only heard about in offhand comments.

As for the detective duo, I love them a lot and I was so happy when they showed back up in S2, it's another thing I liked about Gemini.

Ryuusei no Gemini felt like halfway between Kuro no Keiyakusha and Bouryaku no Zvezda. I heard that he'd been trying to pitch Sekai Seifuku even before Darker Than Black so maybe his ideas for it influenced the second season.

I desperately need a sequel for both DTB2 and Zvezda, too.
