It most definitely is a mystery show. Kanye Festival and finale are the only parts that don't put that much of an emphasis on the mysteries, maybe Valentines episode to an extent as well.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the stakes have to be a lot higher (murder, theft) for something to really be a mystery story. Hyouka is more like a SoL with mystery elements. Not that it even really matters.

Why do people get so fucking anal about Hyouka's mysteries? In the first 15 minutes it tells you exactly what its going to be like. Yes, it is probably classified as a mystery series, but the mysteries are just plot devices there to flesh out and develop the characters and their relationships since that's the primary focus of the series.

Besides, if you aren't watching Hyouka specifically for it's visuals then you're approaching it wrong anyway.

People who say this need a hard slap. Of course it's a mystery show, it's just that these mysteries are lighthearted and relatable as opposed to being the typical crime mystery route that people normally associate the mystery genre.

That being said, the bread and butter of the show is the focus on the thought process to analyze these simple mysteries to produce a solution. Like all genres, some people will like it, some won't. It's just a polarizing show, sort of like the Monogatari series.

But saying this show is garbage or BORING without any substance behind your posts is juvenile as you can get. You're not going to enjoy every piece of work under the sun so learn how to respectfully talk about the ones you don't.

Fucking please. I won't argue Nichijou because it's most definitely KyoAni's most well animated series, but it isn't really comparable. And Euphonium looked nice, but it went a bit overboard on the effects and filters, had considerably more noticeable CGI and nowhere near the level of detail Hyouka did. It blew my mind when I noticed the second time I watched episode 17 that you can actually see the culprit committing the crime on screen before the reveal. But maybe I'm just blind and everyone else noticed it the first time.
