I can't really explain it, I just feel like she really changed and showed her true colors towards the end. At first maybe it was a game for Ami to try and steal him from Taiga but I believe it was not a game at all once she fell for him.

I liked the romance between ryuji and taiga but for me personally I could not self insert because I am not the sub. If I self inserted I would see myself going after Ami somewhere mid-late season.
