ITT - the three anime that got you into anime in the first place
Kill La Kill
Yu Yu Hakusho
I still have a huge nostalgia boner for Slayers. That fandom was also my first introduction to fanfiction back in the days before even Fanfiction.net was a thing.
Randomly saw it on Adult Swim Back in 2004 and was hooked instantly.
I remember seeing that first Toonami promo video for this and was hyped.
Then came bleach in 2006 when I had went over to my friends to play Poker and everyone over there was hyped for the premier of Bleach on Toonami.
It wasn't until after bleach that I really started branching out into the anime world. Of course I had seen other things such as Samurai Champloo and Eureka 7 on Adult Swim. But it was watching Bleach that made me venture out into watching real, subbed anime.
What do you mean? None of these show underage and samurai champloo is hardly a "hurr durr I've been here longer" show. The amount of people that I know who first got turned into anime by samurai champloo is pretty high.
Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Speed Racer
I'd say that covers my main three genres pretty well nowadays.
>Sailor Moon = Cutesy shit
>Dragon Ball = Adventure shit
>Speed Racer = Action shit mixed with Adventure Shit
I used to like Bleach, but then Soul Society started and everything went to shit and was painful to watch. I mean, the premise sounded so damn cool, but it ended up being really fucking dumb. Same goes for Naruto and the Chunin exams; everything up to the end of the exams was fine, but borderline wizard shit. Then it went full wizard shit with no real sense of ninjas anymore beyond kunai being thrown and the fact that they call themselves ninja. One Piece had me hooked up to before Crocodile showed up. I just kind of stopped watching it since the Grand Line just never seemed to show up. I know One Piece actually got good, but the other two I know are shit. God tier soundtracks though.
FLCL > Hey there's more than just dbz and pokemon
Outlaw Star > OH MY GOD YES
Lucky Star > Hey there's an anime board on this 4chins site and they all seem to be enjoying this "Lucky Star" show let's get in on this
The funny thing is that I think I missed some episodes during season 1, watched all of Soul Society arc in dub, skipped the entire whatever arc up until Grimmjow first appeared and continued the sub from there on.
>tfw hearing Alones for the first time.
Depends how you define "got into anime". I have a dissonance where I consider the stuff I watched as a kid to not be "anime" even if as an adult I understand it is.
So stuff like Dragonball Z and Cardcaptors don't really register. The below three would be what I consider "anime" without hitting any dissonance with the timeline.
>Professor Irabu's office
Gundam Wing - I downloaded it on dialup it took literally days to get one epsidoe and a phone-call would stop the download eventually I moved to kazaa which if I remember correctly kept the download progress.
As for the rest I really can't remember the order so I won't bother trying.
I wish I'd have been a kid when I saw Outlaw Star. Aisha could have given me confusing emotions.
I am starting my 10 year old loli cousin on anime .
She has watched both FMA, Soul Eater, SnK, Blue Exorcist, Angel beats, and now I have her watching Death Note.
All entry level shit, the problem is that because she's 10 she does not want to read the screen and is watching them dubbed.
I have to convince her little by little that subbed is the way to go.
I also have to keep thinking of shit that does not have echii fan service.
Eventually, I will leave her on her own, I am just afraid that she will stumble on adult shit.
She has been marathoning non stop.
Next is Bleach.
/blog, I just really wanted to tell you guys
My first titles were Pokemons, Sailor Moon and Shaman King. There were also lots of shows I watched on tv just to have fun without any particular interest into anime specifically (Elfen Lied, Eva, Chobits, Chrono Crusade, Green Green, Golden Boy etc).
The shows that get me into maraphoning japs cartoons were Slayers and Death Note.
Man that was a long journey.
Vampire Hunter D
Record of Lodoss War
Uchuu no Stellvia
it all went downhill from there
>All I did was listen to my dick.
This is the only reason i'm browsing and watching modern anime.
Dirty Pair Flash
Dominion Tank Police
I was going to put in Bubblegum Crisis instead of Dirty Pair, but I never actually really watched more than two episodes of it.
1) Death note was my very first, never finished it because it got boring after L died.
2) FMA and FMA:B is what really got me into anime.
3) K-On was my first SOL and it got me into moeshit and by that point you're in deep.
Dragon Ball Z
i really loved the dubs in latin spanish
Sailor Moon is a weird edge case for me, as while it was one of the first shows I watched that distinctly was anime which stood out, it didn't yet push me on to seek out more anime and trying to follow it mostly disappointed me. Going back to it as an adult though, it absolutely is my favourite and forms the core of me obsession now that I can watch it properly.
Are you ready to hate me?
1. Trigun - as a freshmen in college I had roommates who watched anime occasionally, I saw a few episodes of this with them, forgot about it, was bored a year and a half later and decided to watch whole the series on a whim.
2. Cowboy Bebop - it was 2007 and I came here from /b/ looking for a recommendation and this is what I got
3. GITS: SAC - again, thanks /a/
I remember watching Paranoia Agent and Black Lagoon on TV when i was pretty young, glad to know i had great taste from the start.
dragon ball z
I don't have three, I just have one. Coworker was asking me for some recs to get into anime, and I gave him the same one.
When I was a kid I guess it was Pokemon, DBZ, and Gundam Wing. I didn't really consider those "anime" to me at the time, I just thought of them as cartoons.
Reading manga had more of an influence on my interests than any set of shows really.
Although admittedly I didn't try any anime other than bleach for years, DN and CG convinced me that anime could actually be pretty cool and wasn't just limited to mildly amusing long-running shounen.
Ghost In The Shell
I guess you could count earlier stuff like Dragon Ball, Slayers, Tekkamen Blade, Captain Tsubasa or even Maya The Bee or Moomins, but I wouldn't say it got me "into anime". I watched them like every other animated series.
I started to watch anime two years ago when I was 21. I was boring and I wanted to see the end of an anime I watched randomly when I was a kid.
It was Vision of Escaflowne. Then I wanted more.
Vision of Escalflowne
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Those anime, especially NGE literally changed the view I had on anime. Before that, anime was for me shitty things like Naruto or erotic things like Ikkitousen.
Classic or brotherhood though?
Because Brotherhood is better but if anyone started with that, he's a newfag.
Oh what am I saying, there are people in this thread that started with shit that came much later FMA Brotherhood.
Man, I feel old. You had to be up by 5 AM in order to catch Dragonball Z since it was so much more violent than other cartoons.
Yu Yu Hakusho
There where before I knew what anime was.
These where the first anime I watch that I knew where anime
It's funny because I don't even watch SoL like that anymore.
>Kill la kill
Jesus how late did people started?
Mind you I was about 22 at the time and had no idea anime was actually a thing aside from Pokémon/dbz/generic as fuck kiddy shit.
