Horikoshi has always struck me as a mangaka in the same heart as Yūsei Matsui.

Yūsei has a gigantic hit on his hands with Assassination Classroom. Like huge. It prints money in every section of the market that makes the most money.

Almost anyone else would have the series extended and milked at gunpoint by their editors, and Yūsei is like, "Nah, I said one class year and that's it. It's done."

Dude is walking away from not only "never work again" money, but "work on whatever you want and publish it yourself" money.

Horikoshi put his foot down on All Might's design and a few other things, and only relented in giving Midoriya a quirk because in the end he felt that'd be more interesting.

I have the feeling that Horikoshi is a big enough nerd to know about the kind of cliches he should avoid. He's been avoiding the Girl on Girl fights so far and it might've been on purpose, it will happen eventually of course but hopefully it'll be driven by the plot and for the plot, and not by a random number generator that happens to put two girls against each other.

On top of that, up to this point, Ashido, Tsuyu, Momo, and Uraraka have kind of displayed they can hold their own in a battle. Ashido seems to have great athleticism and an affinity for hand-to-hand combat. Uraraka might be up there, too, now that she's received CQC training from Gunhead. Tsuyu seems to be the all-around fighter. Kind of a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none character. Plus, Horikoshi seems to have made it clear she'll be more or less playing a support role. Momo has a great deal of intellect and has the potential to be a great strategist. Not to mention, her quirk is pretty high-tier. Round that out with some quality CQC, and she'd be damn near unstoppable. Hagakure is definitely espionage/support. Jiro is definitely long-range. Likely to fall into a support role, too.
