Is modern anime too saturated with needless fanservice?
No, modern anime is too saturated by unoriginal plots and interesting ideas being ignored.
The image you posted is a major example. Regardless of which girl you thought was best, many anons here agreed when Denpa Onna aired that the show would have been better if it was never a harem, and the other girls never introduced. The story starts out with an interesting premise but quickly devolves into just another generic waifu wars.
Fanservice can get obnoxious. It doesn't make sense for a lot of shows to have fanservice when porn exists. Unless you're the kind of person who likes to stay in a constant state of arousal maybe.
Just accept that Anime has been slowly dying...
You'll never see quality anime the likes of gits, cowboy bebop, vampire hunter D etc... No hand-drawn cells only stock moe girls that we've seen a dozen times already. If you're anything like me, you've already gave up on anime and got back to only reading manga.
What happened was this, Moe shows with lots of fanservice get a vocal minority of fat ass neets which makes the industry push for more moe shows with lots of fanservice and cute little girls, so people that wanted quality anime stopped watching and thus no more quality is being made. Add the SJW's, the current political correct bullshit we're living in and the inordinate amounts of censorship and we get where we are today.
>You'll never see quality anime the likes of <insert old story driven shit here> that wasnt actually that great anyway and i only use these as an example as im incapable of treating anime what it is fucking entertainment
>fanservice in anime
Its contradiction here. Fanservice is in Anime, since its expected from Anime and one of thins that constitues to it being Anime.
Similarly as some retarded japs on yaraon now complain "anime is culture of CUTE girls, no one draws ugly/realistic characters!" - thats the point of anime. Other media is saturated with ugly 3DPD, thus anime exists to provide beutiful perfect 2d waifus.
I do think animation itself has gone downhill over the years, but I think that has more to do with the economy.
No such thing.
Unfortunately the necessity to sell because of lack of investors in the industry is a real shame, whereas you have stuff coming out of Hollywood all the time with a focus on content rather than the ability to sell.
What's wrong with Needless fanservice?
The whole anime/manga/gaming industry has way too much focus on waifus. It's hardly better than fanfiction nowadays. Most of the girls have sex doll proportions and there's been a ridiculous rise in ludicrous breast sizes as of late too.
I mean honestly, if you were trying to look for 'depth' and 'sophistication' in this particular sub-culture, you're basically looking for the needle in the haystack. There is a dearth of decent writing in this field and it shows.
The main problem is really the economy as some other anons have stated. At this point it's a literal circlejerk of otaku pandering because otakus are the ones forking out the cash in Japan which keeps the industry alive. No one really dares to innovate because the waifu formula continues to sell for now.
In my opinion in no more than 10 years the 90% of the anime studios will die thanks to >>133999096 this.
As far as i can tell, they will not make nothing interesting to watch from western peoples, meaning they will not increase their public, ending in this cycle to create more waifus to sell merchandise to survive, simply stalling.
Are we being raided by /co/?
Fanservice is a symptom of shitty anime, not a cause. Plenty of a great series have had T&A shots, it's just that more studios now rely on sex to sell shows that have nothing else going for them. And even that isn't a new trend in the industry by any means, it's just somewhat more prevalent now than in years past.
This. The first 3 episodes of Denpa Onna are my favorite first 3 of any anime, but it got so boring afterward and I only got interested again after the focus went to Erio and astronaut girl
Even a show like Monogatari, known for it's well written story arcs and focus on character development is still a harem anime with a lot of fan service. though I will admit the fan-service involving hachikuji is just an under-handed jab at people with a loli complex and araragi almost snaps personas when the subject comes about.
go look back at around the start of ep.4. I thought the this the first time I watched it. i found the show innocent enough to finish it, but thinking back, the overriding theme is that of a harem.
Anime has ALWAYS been fan-service heavy, there are just so many more anime beong produced now that you notice it more.
Go back and watch any 70s or 80s anime and find a series not full of panty shots or boob jiggles, its impossible.
Agreed. It established a complete air of wonder and mystery in a small sleepy town and you're excited for what's going to happen.
Then it devolves into harem shit and the Erio/cousin relationship takes a backseat for the majority of the show.
gaming industry is being hit hard with the SJW bat, so less sex doll useless women in games and that's about it (still unoriginal ideas, just now with no fanservice)
cept for japanese games. (on the fanservice part)
fanservice and quality and not mutually exclusive.
the only gripe about fanservice is among underaged because it makes them feel uncool, unsmart and embarrased and sends them running scared back to OPM or other entry level series where they can continue their delusion that anime is for cool and unique people and not fat weaboos. anyone who complains about fanservice is underaged /v/ermin.
INB4 dirty pair, project AKO, Cat's Eyes and everything else because fanservice is part of anime. If you dislike it, head to /co/
You can find out when you decide to stop watching things in such an inferior resolution.
What if Ryuushi had been the protagonist, and got tasked to get her antisocial friend Erio to school every day. Maekawa would remain Maekawa. YYS with some loldrama and coming of age.
The cousin was fine as a protagonist, it just needed less of the other girls and more of cousin trying to bring his cousin into the real world, with supernatural stuff subtly building up in the meantime.
As long as you're not watching dubs you have nothing to fear.
You're not watching dubs, are you?
