No, modern anime is too saturated by unoriginal plots and interesting ideas being ignored.

The image you posted is a major example. Regardless of which girl you thought was best, many anons here agreed when Denpa Onna aired that the show would have been better if it was never a harem, and the other girls never introduced. The story starts out with an interesting premise but quickly devolves into just another generic waifu wars.

Just accept that Anime has been slowly dying...

You'll never see quality anime the likes of gits, cowboy bebop, vampire hunter D etc... No hand-drawn cells only stock moe girls that we've seen a dozen times already. If you're anything like me, you've already gave up on anime and got back to only reading manga.

What happened was this, Moe shows with lots of fanservice get a vocal minority of fat ass neets which makes the industry push for more moe shows with lots of fanservice and cute little girls, so people that wanted quality anime stopped watching and thus no more quality is being made. Add the SJW's, the current political correct bullshit we're living in and the inordinate amounts of censorship and we get where we are today.

The whole anime/manga/gaming industry has way too much focus on waifus. It's hardly better than fanfiction nowadays. Most of the girls have sex doll proportions and there's been a ridiculous rise in ludicrous breast sizes as of late too.

I mean honestly, if you were trying to look for 'depth' and 'sophistication' in this particular sub-culture, you're basically looking for the needle in the haystack. There is a dearth of decent writing in this field and it shows.

The main problem is really the economy as some other anons have stated. At this point it's a literal circlejerk of otaku pandering because otakus are the ones forking out the cash in Japan which keeps the industry alive. No one really dares to innovate because the waifu formula continues to sell for now.

Fanservice is a symptom of shitty anime, not a cause. Plenty of a great series have had T&A shots, it's just that more studios now rely on sex to sell shows that have nothing else going for them. And even that isn't a new trend in the industry by any means, it's just somewhat more prevalent now than in years past.
