So why wasn't Rokka no Yuusha more popular in Japan? The setting seems fresh enough for a fantasy anime, the characters were not bad and the story is pretty good.
>>
>>133974640
Because Japan has shit taste.

/thread

>>133974762
I suspected as much.

Shit marketing for it, many people in Japan didn't even know it existed.

>no high school setting
>no beta male MC to self insert as
>no harem
>no over the top ecchi or fanservice
>mystery
>slow pacing
>unique setting (therefore off-putting)
>adapted from an unpopular LN
>adapted by a no-name studio with a bad reputation prior
>>
>>133974762
This. Also it had bad competition that season. It would have fared better in spring.

It was fairly popular on /a/ though, leaving autistic Overlord threads aside.

>>133974963
Why do nips have such god awful taste? Do they not like adventure anymore?
>>
>>133974640
Because it's bad.
>>
>>133974963
That's pretty much a list of all the things I liked about it.

Why do Japan seem to hate the novelty of something fresh when the rest of the world functions that way?
>>
>>133975090
>Do they not like adventure anymore?
Only if it takes place in a shitty VRMMO game.
The industry has changed, anon.
>>
Because it looks like shit.
>>
>>133975100
Then why are you watching shitty jap cartoons instead of cartoons from rest of the normal world?

So basically JRPG's killed Japan's media innovation and will to ever get outside its comfort zone.

Because I do enjoy those shitty Jap cartoons. It's just that it feels like I'm watching the same show over and over again.
>>
I'm reading the LN and it actually loses a lot of steam in the third volume. The anime was pretty good though.
>>
>>133975302
Oh, I was thinking about reading it. Is there any interesting character development at all after all the characters had their introduction?
>>
>>133975172

Not him, but I do both. I'm just a lot more selective when it comes to anime.
>>
>>133975351
There is definitely character development but I don't know if it's interesting.

What really hurts the LN in my opinion is that you can read Adlet's thoughts. In the anime he says all the time that he is the strongest man alive but in the LN you can read his self doubts all the time which is kinda annoying and hurts the character.
>>
>>133975499
Oh, that's kinda disappointing. I thought the anime got his insecurity across at just the right level. It's clear that he was compensating for his traumatic past and I like i that they didn't beat me over the head with it.

Every once in a while anime gets cool shit like OPM, Garo, and Shingeki no Bahamut. That or comfy stuff like Zettai Bouei Leviathan and Log Horizon.

I started watching anime in the early 90's with stuff like Miyazaki films, Iria, Green Legend Ran, El Hazard, Slayers, Nuku Nuku, Ninja Slayer, Robot Carnival, etc. I still stick around in hopes that one day anime will go back to a creative period like that.

I think the industry is a lot more cynical today then it was back in the day when Japan's economy was booming.

You can tell it's the same over here in the west. We get more shitty movies and shows when the economy is unstable because no one wants to risk their investment. After a while the bar is stuck at a low even if the economy comes around.

At least mangas are still interesting.

I haven't watched the new season yet? I was waiting on it to end so I could marathon it.

I think the last western movie I had any interest in seeing was The Hobbit.
>>
>>133975851
I actually enjoyed the new Mad Max movie more than anything else I have seen from Hollywood in the last few years.

Seeing something with such an even flow, with so little obvious CGI and amazing dedication to detailes actually got me me hooked something fierce. It just made all those other new movies I had been watching in the last few years seem like a joke.

S2 when?

It was better than Chaika that only has waifus to back it up.
>>
>>133976008

The Martian was OK for a hard-ish sci-fi movie, despite the forced diversity.
>>
>>133974640
If the production was better and it revealed what the anime was really about upfront, it may have gotten more attention.
The pacing would've been a problem whether they condensed it to 5 or 6 episodes or kept it as is. I enjoyed it regardless, and I'm liking the novels too.
>>
>>133976804
To be fair the synopsis at launch did say what it was about, otherwise I never would have watched it, they could have tried to make it a little more obvious but it was there.
>>
>>133976008
Watching mad max was like injecting jet fuel into your veins and shooting yourself out a cannon. The music was great, the lore was well put together, and it didn't do anything extraneous and stupid outside what they advertised. It was a great summer movie.
>>
>>133976804
I actually enjoyed the mystery part because I didn't expect it from the premise. A mystery always works better when it takes you off guard.

>>133976699
Can't have Hollywood without some kind of pandering.
>>
>>133974640
The setting was anime-original window dressing that had no effect on the plot and was never given any depth.

Adlet was the only character that didn't feel like a copy-pasted LN stereotype.

The plot was OK.

Factor in the massive amounts of QUALITY and the shows it had to compete with, and it's pretty obvious why this shit didn't sell.
>>
>>133976989
>Can't have Hollywood without some kind of pandering.

The good thing about Japan is that they do 100% commercial pandering. If it sells, they'll make it. They pander only to their customers, no matter if they're otakus or fujos.

On the other side Hollywood takes your money while doing political pandering. They don't pander to you, at least not exclusively.

Japan wins again, even when it makes shit.
>>
>>133974640
You posted it OP.
>The setting seems fresh enough for a fantasy anime
>>
>>133977281
Japan tries to please Japan. So it's japanese interest for japanese people.

Hollywood tries to please the entire world if possible. That makes the Hollywood market more divided and they try cheap tricks with pretending to be politically relevant.
>>
>>133977637

True.

Funny how you'd get more valuable diversity if every country did as Japan then.
>>
>>133977774
Hollywood has created the situation they are in. Every project is like a 100 million dollar investment now and they keep pushing it. Everything large is now a risk investment and they have to keep doing this to stay on top.

Meantime Japan just competes with Japan.

This is also seen in video games.
>>
>>133975616
Garo and Bahamut are mediocre as hell though.
>>
Shame the manga looks like a shitty adaptation.

Post YFW your favorite series has more sales than RnS(Rokka no Sales)

This. Japanese otaku hate anything new or creative. They prefer watching the same generic formula for the 73993 time.

Is Japan autistic?
>>
>>133979022
Not like Westerners are any better.
>>
>>133978968
My favorite anime was Meganebu.
>>
>>133979076
Westerners actually seems to cycle through media trends a lot faster than Japan.
>>
>>133974640
Because it really isn't all that good, got tired of it by the 4th book, "it was all the fig's keikaku" got tiring really quickly.
>>
Rokka was a clusterfuck of genres with shit and magical contrivances for mystery. It's rightfully unpopular.
>>
>>133974963
11s are legit autistic. This is why anime is shit these days.
>>
>>133979924
Nice meme.
>>
>>133975172
Western animation is shit because westerners are also autistic in that they still think animation is for kids only.
>>
>>133979956
How is it a meme when it's the truth?
>>
>>133974963
I didn't really find the pacing to be that slow when compared to Naruto or Space Brothers.
>>
>>133974640

I honestly thought It sucked to be honest.

The character designs were cliche, the thematic was cliche, the main character wasn't appealing, the fights weren't thrilling, I could never give a shit about who won what, nor did I ever care who was fake if there was fake (I never went farther than the first volume)

Seriously, I can get how /a/ likes it, but at the very least don't say the setting was fresh.

Fake hero? The real hero being falsely charged? That's as old as the hero's genre itself.
>>
>>133974640
Rokka no sales fannies are severely triggered to put the blame on the lack of ecchi and that alone.

Should have seen those idiots attacking Monster Musume for selling far better to leave out their butthurt.
>>
>>133974640
The horrendous QUALITY caused by the shoestring budget.
>inb4 it wasn't that bad
It didn't affect my enjoyment of the show much personally, but it was fucking everywhere except the first episode. You won't start to notice that sort of thing reliably unless you've seen a lot of anime, anyway.
>>
>>133975616
Shingeki no Bahamut got two new series coming out in 2016.

Emilia & Friends - Based on the Liberation of Mysteria in the game.

Genesis 2nd - Continuing after Gensis and exploring the world of Bahamut.
